To those who complain... It's not only about age but first of all fatigue... Touring for singers like him is a a killer... Plus consider DT long time shows 2hrs+ sometimes... As for his age and all factors affecting his voice RESPECT 👍

Sure, tours are a killer. But it's not really the problem. He would sing so much better, if he'd establish a proper diaphragmic support, released the tension from his neck and get that breathing under control. He has plenty bad habits that will wear him down on shows, slow down recovery and make him sound out of tune; usually in this case flat, because lack of diaphragmic support. Don't get me wrong, he can sing and he has plenty of experience from the road and is professional in his business. But in vocal technique, he does same bad habits what beginning singers do; myself included, before I started practicing seriously vocal techniques. His overall habits make his singing incredibly unoptimized and it also makes his singing sound very weird and hard to understand at a times. Let's not bother with the food poisoning thing. I've had severe food poisonings, long lasting flus (as of right now), aggressive covids that made me screamcough my lungs out for weeks and my voice did recover every time. The food poisoning just cracked his vocal chords due to extreme bad habits he had prior to it. He also did insanely bad choices against doctors' orders by going on tours, even though his voice needed rest. In other words, I don't believe the food poisoning being the only reason his voice got nearly FUBAR. He could totally get his voice in awesome condition, if he'd delve into Bel Canto and ditch these bad habits. I'd be sure he would feel better singing this stuff. Now I bet he sees lots of stars and booming headaches after every song, because of all that hypertension. Trust me, I did the same before and it isn't exactly fun.

@@Anonyomus As far as I know before Awake tour, he's got food poisoning, but he pushed still in tour his voice and caused irreparable voice damage. That time was hard for him. He had a bad moment and thinking about to quit. However non of us can verify full details as per his voice damages, we don't have any access to his doctor records. We can only speculate...Along it's difficult basically heart breaking thing to do criticise someone who undoubtedly signed in history of progressive metal music. I would say maybe... He is still far better then Axle Rose who definitely shouldn't go on stage anymore and respectively accepts his voice condition and abilities...

Dear James ... I'm a DT fan from Rome, Italy ... thanks for all the emotions your voice gave and still give to us ... When my beloved father passed away in November 2013, I played The Spirit Carries On at the church exit. There were so many people, friends, relatives, colleagues ... and the notes of that wonderful song echoed in the air ... it was an unforgettable moment. Thank you James, thank you Dream Theater for giving us this immortal music.

I should address this post to Mike Portnoy if I were you, he wrote it for his dad who was dying of cancer at the time. Mike even sang and recorded the demo and was lucky to be able to share it with his father while he was still alive. Take care, brother. 🤘🏻❤️

LaBrie could easily compete in the olympics of singing and win. The long shows and tours, need I say the length of an average DT song? Absolutely brilliant, iconic vocalist, the fact that his voice is still rocking after decades with DT is just mind blowing.
