Prior to joining Scorpions, Kottak was a drummer for the Bob Brickley Band, Nut House, Mister Charlie, Buster Brown, Montrose, Kingdom Come, Wild Horses, the McAuley Schenker Group, Warrant, and Ashba. He gained early mainstream exposure during his time with Kingdom Come, appearing on the band's first two studio albums, the first of which included their biggest hit, "Get it On."

Alcohol is a cruel mistress. I am saddened by there loss of such a truly sweet man.

saw him with the scorpions on the pure instinct tour with alice cooper, summer of 1996. show was in portland oregon at he rose garden, and pretty much sold out. for 1996, in the pacific northwest, it was pretty amazing they did that well for the show. he had the whole place responding to his drum solo. great player. is a shame that he passed. his work on warrant's ultraphobic is great.

Just found out today he's gone! The last time I heard news of him was that he was really in a bad way to the point that he had fallen asleep while playing the drums on stage. I couldn't believe it and chalked it up to a rumor, exaggeration etc. But I'm so sad he's gone!! He's been in so many bands and I believe the last thing he was working on was something with Rudy Sarzo and other well known guys. So sad... REST IN PEACE BROTHER!!!🤘❤️

yeah man.. a new revenge, with keri kelli, ripper owens & rudy sarzo... kottak left his mark with all these albums, and that is so beautiful, he will never die... :)

rip James kottak. I did not look so great in this interview. rather skinny. alcohol is one hell of a drug. seemed like a nice guy sober
