James Kottak Tribute - Drummer with Montrose, Kingdom Come, Scorpions and more - 1962 - 2024

Музыка

Tribute to James Kottak who has sadly passed away
James played drums with many bands and in this tribute I pick my favourite albums that feature his playing. From the Scorpions who he played with for 20 years, Montrose, Kingdom Come, Warrant, DIO and Michael Schenker.
This video is dedicated to James family and fans around the world.
Thank you
Phil

For me, One of the best albums that he made was with McAuley Schenker - MSG, great songs and great drum lines like paradise, for example... James kottak one of the best hard rock drummers, his presence on stage was notable, he helped the Scorpions a lot in live performance with splitting water, spins.. I remember watch holiday and he playing with the feets, One on bass other in hit-hat, his hands playing in floor tom/snare and Ride cymbal, and plus he was singing.... I was like OMG.... Very sad 😢 and by the way thank you to keep the memory of James with this video. I wish to you Phil all the best...

Nice tribute. I saw Kingdom Come open for the Scorpions back in the 80's. A great show. No doubt that's when the Scorpions got to know him. Take care.

So very sad, a truly GREAT drummer who's legacy cannot and will not be denied. People love their dirt don't they? I think it's because it provides them a fleeting illusion of being clean. The creative emotionally expressive ego is such a personally treacherous scale to balance. If we can see and celebrate ourselves atop that silver mountain, we can just as surely disparage ourselves within the depths of hell's torment. It really is all like RJD and Lou Reed stated, it's heaven/magic and hell/loss. RIP James, your legacy will easily surpass your mortality.

Thank you for this Phil and making a very important point. Music is so important. Yet for many an incident or reported behaviour becomes the main association for an artist and can lead to their work and legacy being trashed.

I'm afraid that I never got over or beyond "Eye II Eye" by the Scorpions but I shall certainly dig out Montrose's "Mean" in his honour today as an album I've not spun up in a while, whatever his personal demons were. Let's not forget that Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Bon Scott and many other late musicians also had their personal demons, but we cherish them nonetheless. RIP James Kottak.

Sadly was the same case with Ingo from Helloween. Great that current Helloween drummer plays Ingos kit and at live shows in backdrops remember him ❤.

Thanks for your tribute video, Phil. It helps to soften the blow.I'm so sad to learn he's died. Until seeing your video, I didn't know. Since receiving 'Return to Forever' as a recent Christmas present, I have played the hell out of it. James drums brilliantly on this release, ditto Humanity 1, another of my favourite Scorpions albums. KZread is a great source of Scorpions gigs, and when it comes to the obligatory drum solo section, James was a giant. I knew he left , or was fired, around 2016, and haven't been aware of who or what he's done since. Once again, very sad. He was an awesome drummer, who fitted the Scorpions well.
