Think that's the best bet, sometimes context is everything. The suit design looks purposely awkward, I mean the bottom of the trunks (or shorts...?) look baggy and fraid at the bottom, the belt loops look way too oversized (that belt looks so chunky!!) almost like a distraction. This would be a good way to, ironically disguise Superman from the public who'll knowingly get shots to leak them online (maybe I'm giving Gunn too much credit here!). I believe Gunn had finished the script some time back before shooting, and if that were the case, why have Corenswet go through all that physical work, only to hide it throughout the film..? I'm thinking second suit and the seen version will be heavily modified in post-production. This is only just speculation of course! 😀

There’s a difference between fabric wrinkles and a material being baggy and not actually fitting? Even Spider-Man’s suit wrinkles. That’s not the problem. It just looks big and goofy.

Could you imagine Spiderman's suit fitting like this? Both Capt. America and Deadpool had the world looking at their asses, because as busy as their suits were, they still fit.

The only problem is that it looks loose. The guy’s physique is phenomenal (if you’ve seen the photos) and the suit needs to highlight that. Other than that it’s cool. The colors are rich, the symbol is cool.

I feel like the suit needs to be a little more form fitting. It doesn’t show any muscle definition and I know David put in a lot of hours in the gym and got jacked up so why does he need a thick padded suit? not only is it thick and loose but it also looks frumpy and I think the trunks are outdated they look like baggy fruit of the loom briefs worn over a loose fitting motorcycle suit. I think you’re gonna go with that type of material. The trunk should be a red pattern in the form of Trunks as part of the suit instead of thick, baggy trunks worn over the suit. It looks something like a diaper, but I love the cape the yellow S emblem with the dimension and how they cape flows is really awesome and I think the S on the front needs more dimension because the intricate lines around the chest and shoulder, take away from the S making it look flat.

Both comics and movies are a visual medium so design matters. You’re gonna be looking at this thing for a pretty good chunk of 2 and half hours roughly.

2:50 this is completely unrelated but i just wanted to say that a lot of people forget or just straight up dont know that Brandon Routh's Superman and Christopher Reeves's Superman are the same Superman. So that means Christopher Reeves Superman has gone through the kingdom come storyline. Idk if they acknowledged this in the 78 comics i havent read them but i would love if they did sort of a reversion of kingdom come that expands the universe of the 78 superman. Adding Lydna Cater's Wonder Woman and either keaton's or west's batman. I think West would probably fit better since the era's of both him and reeves are more tonely similar

I think they made too many very bad COMPROMISES to deviate from the classic Superman look to keep as much money out of the creators (Schuster, et al) pockets as possible and retain the modern copyright. DC is trying to change as much as possible and still keep it Superman.

Yeah man now i know that im not the first one to have said and recognise this. The suit looks neoprene, like what deep sea divers wear. That's why it lacks definition. It's dulling out all of David's muscles because that material is thick. It doesn't grip around. On top of that it's loose so it's even worse. Its weard man. I dont know if im feeling that

Just looks to me like he's wearing motorcycle leathers with a diaper pulled over them. It looks SO stupid. But, you know.. It's James Gunn , so what else would anyone expect. That hipster idiot has no business directing a Superman movie. He should stick to spoofing other comic book characters that no one cares about. I appreciate your breakdowns. I don't know you personally, but we have a lot in common so I feel comfortable BSing about this stuff. This post is rather long and probably reads as a huge complaint and that is not my intent. I'm just commenting on the things about the suit and images we've seen. For me, this suit is just 99% garbage. No sugar coating. The 1% is the cape. The other stuff.. I mean, I just don't like the S. I LOVE Kingdom Come and I who can say anything bad about Alex Ross art? I mean, he is a true master. But I just.. I gotta be honest the S doesn't do it for me, especially since it isn't the KC version of Superman. I also don't like the yellow on the outside of the S. The suit itself.. that texture you mentioned is spot on. nio.. something or other. lol The wet suit look, right? That isn't working. It looks bad. The lines and design are just horrible looking. If they are going for the New 52 look, those lines worked because it was Kryptonian armor. If that is the way they go in the movie and we see other Kryptonians with it.. ok, fine. If it is a home made suit by a human? Well, then bad choice. The fit is obviously bad. Like everyone is saying maybe they fix that in post. Ok, fine. The Gauradians of the Galaxy 3 costume look that it has though just makes me think Gunn has his own tastes and this is it. It looks like a jacket. Maybe they are hoping to sell jackets like they did with the Smallville leather jacket? I don't know. The colors are ok.. I mean, Superman has had a variety of colors, so whatever. I personally like a bit more of a darker blue, but these colors are fine I guess. The big old red diaper... oh boy. It looks stupid. It just does. People say I'm not a "true" fan. Ok.. sure.. even though I've been reading comics for nearly 40 years. I guess I'm not a fan. Even though I'm talking about a costume choice and not the character. Ugh. The internet. Others will assume I only know Cavill's Superman. A ignorant assumption on their part. Look, back in the day when it was all we had, it was all we had. But when I saw other heroes evolve and get better looking suits without trunks, I always hoped they would finally update Superman. And lets face it. One of Superman's biggest problems was that he needed a update. Older readers will argue that he doesn't, but he DOES. All heroes need to evolve to stay relevant and attract new readers. New 52 came around and new designs for all characters and honestly I loved it. New 52 sort of took a weird turn and thankfully it led to Rebirth with more suit changes... I wasn't a fan of the blue boots, but loved the look otherwise. And then we got the ultimate upgrade.. New 52 Superman merged with Rebirth Superman and we got the Reborn suit. To me that suit is the ultimate Superman suit. Perfect blend of classic and contemporary. It just looked awesome. Also, I heard, and I could be wrong, but I heard that Rebirth was one of the best times for DC Comics in terms of recent popularity. Then Bendis came and sort of ruined it all. I loved Bendis on other titles, but man his Superman/Action Comics was horrible. And yes, part of that was he went back to the older Superman design. Bad mistake. We need to move forward, not backwards. But whatever. And in live action I just think the red diaper looks ridiculous. I don't care what actor is wearing it, it just looks silly. The Man of Steel suit was an awesome upgrade. The BvS Suit is still my favorite. The design was flawless. I said this before, but if I saw THAT Superman standing in the street in real life, I'd be in awe. I've seen your suit and the same thing. I've other's on social media.. same. It is just an awesome suit that looks amazing. When I see any actor or cosplayer in the suits with trunks.. I mean honestly.. they look stupid. It is just a bad design. Horrible look. No matter what character, no matter what actor, it doesn't matter. Silly look. (I would never say that to a cosplayer of course but just saying it here to be honest) Clark Kent. The Clark broccoli hair is just.. bad. LOL Sorry, I just don't like it. I've seen on social media some teenagers with hair like that I think it looks stupid on them, so of course I think it looks bad on Clark. Maybe it's may age? lol I saw some people say that he will be a Reeve like Clark and that makes me cringe as well. Reeve created that whole goofy Clark Kent. I respect him for taking a role and making it his own. He did something different and that is great. BUT I blame him for fans thinking that is the comic book accurate Clark Kent. It is not. He said so himself. He based his Clark off a Cary Grant character and NOT the comics. In the comics Clark is an award winning investigative reporter that rivals Lois Lane. He is a cool guy that gets the job done. Reeve's Clark is just ridiculous and unbelievable. It worked in 78 because it was 1978 and that is what comic book movies were. It wasn't until the 2000 X-Men movies that Hollywood realized we could have serious comic book movies. So far for me, this movie is a bust. I say "so far" though because who knows. I'm HOPING it will be good and I will love it. I WANT to love it. But I am honest with myself and I know what I like. So far this is just ticking off things I don't like and I'm seeing very little on the positive side of things.

Dude, I absolutely love this comment. It’s so thoughtful. There’s so much in here that I agree with. Some of the things that I’m on the fence about. But I think you’re right… There is so much to choose from, one way doesn’t have to be it. Like I’m a fan of the briefs. But I don’t think they work with this suit. It’s very 52 and the whole reason that 52 didn’t have the Braves was because it didn’t need them. That’s just one point to touch but yes, there is definitely a lot to think about. I really appreciate you putting the time into this. Thanks so much, man. It’s definitely something good to debate about and bs about. What else can we do? This is what we’re getting and that’s that hahaha. But I do hope the fix it in post route is one that works

I don't know I'm kind of 50-50 on the suit the only thing I really don't like about it is the fact that the suit is really baggy. Everything else I liked about the suit. I like the fact that the suit is bright in colors, it's vibrant and I like the intricate lines in the suit, as well I also like the chest crest on superman and the fact that the crest is also on his cape. I know that the crest is basically a red and yellow version of the black and red kingdom come crest, but I'm a fan of kingdom come superman personally. It's like with the behind-the-scenes footage of Robert Pattinson as batman, the set photos weren't that great and the suit also looked baggy on Robert Pattinson, it looked bulky and it didn't look quite right and when we got our trailer and when. The movie finally came out the suit looked great on Robert Pattinson, it looked sleek, it looked like it fit him perfectly and I have a feeling that's what it's going to look like on David corn sweat when the movie finally comes out and we stop looking at the behind-the-scenes set photos. I have a feeling that when the movie comes out, the CGI and special effects are going to make the suit look like it fits David corn sweat and that it's going to be skin tight and that his muscles that he worked for at the gym are going to pop through. But that's just me, I think that the suit looks great at the moment and that when the movie comes out it's going to do the finishing touches. And then the suit will look even better and look like it should.

I’m the same. And I feel like you’re right. He worked way too hard for it not to show up on screen somehow. You’re right about the Batman suit, though. That’s an interesting comparison.

Just my opinion based on what we have so far. Pros: The colors. Hopefully they don’t desaturate all the life out of them with some damn monochrome filter. Having the S on the back of the cape. Don’t get the “it’s campy” criticism. That’s what Superman’s cape looks like. Cons: Using the New 52 design and then putting trunks on it. I’m not a fan of that suit and slapping the trunks on it doesn’t really balance or solve the problems with that design IMO like the high collar and excessive lines all over and the cape floating on the shoulders. It might be fine if it lined up with the collar more kind of like Kirk Alyn’s costume The apparently loose/baggy fit. Kinda makes it look like it’s a modified GOTG or MCU Cap’ uniform. Undecided: The use of the Kingdom Come style symbol. On the one hand if any design of the symbol could be believable as an alien glyph that just happens to look like an S it’s that one. But it’s also one designed for a very specific story and doesn’t really look like THE symbol. Honestly, I think they might be basing this suit on the costume design in Fortnite which is basically the same thing.

I honestly love it, and I'm someone who has been an avowed hater of the New 52 design. I don't think the yellow S on the cape is campy at all, and I find the comments saying it "looks like cosplay" to be weird. Could the upper portion of the suit be more form fitting? Yeah, it could, but it's either a deliberate decision for it to be that way or it's something that will be fixed in post. I honestly think that it's a more cohesively designed suit than the DCEU suits, which in my opinion were a prime example of suits that had entirely too many elements going on at once (to the point that they literally placed a glyph on top of a glyph with the S). Ultimately these things almost never look good behind the scenes (I remember people ragging on the bts pics of The Batman suit, the first Captain America suit, etc.) and those ended up looking great in the actual movie. It's not what I would have done if I was directing it, it's not what I expected, but I dig the overall vibe they seem to be going for.

Like I said I’m in two minds about it but you’re right… We are seeing what they want us to see and ultimately we will see what they want us to see when the movie comes out. love the yellow on the back, but at the same time, I’m not sure. That’s what I grew up with so it’s nice to see it.

Definitely agreed. These things are polished and re-polished in post production. The vibe certainly feels (hate to say it) fresh. I feel we need something different after the Snyder films, not saying the Snyder vision was bad but change can be positive and sometimes we need it. Cosplay might not be bad thing because as Cosplay Chris would say cosplayera do it best. We still don't know what the colour tone of the film will or what mood etc will be which could affect the overall feeling of everything. For example the MoS suits and Snyder suits looked lovely in real life but the sepia (is it called that) muted a lot of the colours.

@@MS-hb8wz Yeah, I know that it's a basic complaint of the Snyder movies, but I honestly feel like the unnatural color grading didn't do the suits any favors (which I thought was odd given that MoS was going for this realistic tone) and made them look kind of grungy as opposed to weathered.

​​​@@Cotygeek I love the DCEU suit, but I will agree that the MOS suit looked more weathered than it needed to. I can understand how you would see it as grungy. To me the BVS suit is a masterpiece of live-action suits. The trim followed the anatomy of his oblique muscles and subtly filled the negative space left behind by the [absent] trunks. The Kryptonian writing on the shield, arms, wrists, and belt is a Joseph Campbell quote from the 1940s discussing how humans have been inspired by hero figures for thousands of years because we see ourselves in them. I will say that the BVS suit doesn't look very good in animation or cartoon-style art, despite looking amazing in live action. Conversely, I think Corenswet's suit has elements that look great in animation (the trunks and the collar) that don't seem to translate well to live action. But I'm getting used to the suit and it's growing on me. If they make it fit correctly in post-production, then I think they can get away with a lot more of these design choices.

1:15 Dejá Vu. They said the Exact same thing about Shazam's first suit Then what happened? That was the suit we got on the big screen. I'd love to see some of the prototypes that didn't make it for them to land On This.

Each director has his own interpretation of Superman and his suit...for me the ultimate still Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill but for this one, we just need to see the movement in the movie so I keep my reservation and my hope high...!

It does look too thick and not form fitting enough. That’s my biggest problem. How is that supposed to sit under his work clothes without him looking pudgy? I don’t love the high collar and the lines are too much imo. Overall I think he looks good in the suit tho, and the colours are perfect.

It really reminds me of new 52 suit with trunks. They’ll probably fix the the wrinkle in post but I honestly don’t like it. Maybe if they took the trunks away I might like it a bit more but as is I don’t. Maybe it’s the material

I think you’re right. I think we’re going to see a different fit in post. The only thing I’m not sold on is that the briefs, while I prefer them… Don’t really work with the 52. I think I’m going to have to make a video eventually, explaining my hypothesis on that haha

New 52 was a terrible design .. the collar was something I hated from the beginning .. and making the suit look more complicated than it needed to be with all the tactical padding, lines, and other tchotchkes was really clumsy looking .. I think DC thought they were appealing to the audiences who've become obsessed with anime. I really don't care about the underwear or no underwear thing .. but Snyder did it right. It was simple, elegant, but not without interesting surfaces and line work. It looked like something alien but lyrical like something from greek mythology. His designers were brilliant. This James Gunn monstrosity looks like he's trying to fuse together the modern Marvel junk with silver age camp and it's just not working. He should've gone one way or the other. This design is total dog crap.

Neoprene!!! Heh heh The "S" on the back I'm okay with I think... But then like you say it feels a bit extra. For me my main issue is the fit of it, a little tighter and would give the impression of strength, as it stands from what we've seen it looks like he's been depowered and lost his strength. Might be a plot point?

The Truth is people got to remember DC is set in a fictional universe . Not the real world like marvel . That's why Stan lee said marvel is the world outside your window but only with super heroes and aliens in it . Ok well DC is not that, DC has always been this 70s retro futuristic sci Fi timeless alternate history with superheroes, it's more like westeros in a since . People have to understand that DC is not marvel so you have to throw realism out the window. Cause that's never been dcs style.

Dude I think you have a lot all of respect for Superman because you do a lot of cosplays as Superman and I think that's awesome I do like the Superman suit it's so good because they brought back the original Superman back into movies yes the suit is a little big but I still love the Superman suit and I think the reason why they made it little big because they were going more with comic books look and also the cartoons as well if you watch Justice League the New frontier Superman they we're focusing that way like Justice League the New frontier also kingdom comes New 52 and also the classic I still like it because I think it's cool so thank you and have a super day

Hey, thanks so much for your kind words. That’s kind of how I feel about it as well. I don’t love it but at the same time because it’s a Superman suit, I have respect for it.

I've always been against the underwear over the pants thing. It's and outdated practice from strongmen in the 1800s get with the times, also the suit itself looks pretty clunky.

Ok ...first and foremost David Corensweat is a great cast for the role of Superman. He looks great as the character. However I don't like the suit . The trunks ruined it because they don't go with the design of the suit. I like the cape and the "S" symbol.

It's strange how I like his Clark Kent "disguise" look more than the suit, because he actually doesn't look identical to his Superman "look". That's what my problem was with Snyder's version. To me, the suit looks too loose. I guess we just have to wait for the movie to see how things go.

G'day it's Steven from down under C'mon...really? This isn't gonna work and will polarize many, many viewers. Creating a new generation Superman suit isn't that difficult, this should be easier than creating a great story and script. The design process has failed This is "not" Superman...NOT It's a baggy pajama party costume with what is not an S on the chest, it's baggy and ill fitted and why oh why is he wearing shorts with inbuilt adult diapers?? This actor has the honour of playing the greatest superhero known to mankind and clearly he's worked out a lot to change his physique, too bad this cosplay costume is covering everything up. Why make changes in post production?, just create a quality suit like in all other previous Superman movies.

Well I keep going back to what this Movie was before WB went Nuts a stand alone Movie that wasn't the main Superman Movie. Did I say WB went Nuts. Get ready for anything including the worst.

Alex Ross doesn't draw Superman with Huge Bulging Bodybuilder Muscles and it works. Superman's Strength comes from his powers, not his muscles. David doesn't need a Skin Tight Fitted Suit to be Superman.

No, he doesn’t need huge muscles. He needs to be defined. And I do think that there does need to be some kind of a fit with the suit though

The lines aren't random, they fit the shape of the crest and evoke the turn of the century art deco of Metropolis

No, I don’t think they’re random at all. And they certainly remind me of the 52 look. But I think it’s just too much going on at one time. That, plus the briefs, plus the pattern on the belt… Plus the collar. It’s a lot.

@Superfitcosplay the belt pattern is too much I feel. The collar is interesting - it lets the crest be closer to his face so it shows in close ups, but also allows it to be surrounded by blue. I think I prefer the Reeve approach of just lowering though

@@Superfitcosplay Unlike man of steel where the suit is made on the Kryptonian ship, we may get the scene of Martha making it. Which will make more sense as to why it isnt a perfect skintight fit.

@@Superfitcosplay Just realized there is a very good possibility of various suits he wears in the movie. I dont think the fake leak of the form fitting version was fake. I think the baggier suit is made to help protect against whatever that pink orb in the sky is. What are the chances the first leaked "fake ai" version knew what the crest would look like...

I’m sorry for your hope mate but… just look set pictures from The Suicide Squad and GotG then compare to the actual scenes in the movies… with Gunn what you see is what you get, all of his recent suits for super heroes are made from the same designer.

@@Superfitcosplay you want a similar design for this suit who would have been so much better and would have break design from the other Sups we gonna get in the movie, juste look à Chris Evans fantastic four suit from 2005. It would have respected the work corenswet did on his body, and fit the 2000’s design we can spot on the set. Like the entrance to the aircraft, the police cars and the daily planet globe.

It a Guardian of the galaxy version of Superman. Or MCU version of Superman. Not good. The crest is not good because it's not an S, it like a cross bar? MoS had a perfect Superman crest. The collar is bad, from the back it look like a turtleneck. His hair as Clark is incomprehensible, what we're they thinking.

@@secretospaleontologicos yeah but we have to remember. These are just regular photos. It’s not edited and it’s not professional. Yes I’m sure that it was a calculated choice to allow these to leak, but I feel like they’ve done that so that they can show us something different later.

Sure, that is a fair comment, but look at all the production photos of Cavill in his suit. It looked great, form fitting, pretty much what we saw on film.

The suit is not what we gona see on screen.. just like all the spider-man movies and many other recent superhero movies including some of James Gunns marvel movies the costumes will be cgi.. this is a stand in which is quite standard in super hero movies so I expect they have body scans of the actor and its not gona be so loose fitting

Yeah, I'm trying really hard to like it. There's a lot of ideas I like about it. But It's too baggy, and I'm not feeling the trunks. It throws everything off even more. Also, I'm not sure why they gave Clark Kent that tony khan Gen z hairstyle lol. I need to see some footage or a trailer to get a good idea of what they're going for here.

@Superfitcosplay yeah I'm really willing to give it a chance because I don't know the context or vision they're going for. And i like James Gunn. I think he's brilliant. And he's a casting wizard. I just can't get over how he looks like one of those kids you see in the gym with that hairstyle constantly on his phone and wearing crocks holding up the machine you're trying to get on lol. Talking about everything is "bussin" 🤣

S on the cape better than on the belt in SR to me. Just wish the S was a bit bigger on the cape.

I like the suit more and more as time passes. Agreed something does feel off. Doesn't feel right like he MoS suit. (MoS suit IMO was the best suit from the Zack Snyder films not too metallic)

I think the Man of Steel suit was certainly the best suit from the Snyder films (even if I would have preferred it be brighter. The muscle suit wasn't overly pronounced, it had just enough alien elements to make it work with the world that was built, and the S was perfect. It just felt like each suit they did afterwards just had too many elements thrown on it. Exquisite craftsmanship, but overly designed.

@@Cotygeek So glad I'm not the minority. Deffo agreed the following suits although crafted beautifully do feel over the top to some degree. I think in the effort to make the suit feel like a comic book adaption they ended up perhaps arguably making the suit a caricature of what the suit is meant to be.

And if you're saying that the sequels suit is over design what do you call this one then? The whole lines and pipes that even just copying Marvel design. and isn't mixing new 52 and a pair of trunks didn't feel overly design to your eyes?

I like the suit a lot. For multiple reasons. Can't wait to see it on the big screen.

I hate it sooo much! I have ish em good luck! The Shazam suit team figured out how to make kickass suits tight white them bulging at every move and smooth! And the actors able to do all the action in it! Plus true to the comics etc

@@Superfitcosplay it’s Superman why would they go with a material that looks like rubber and that needs post production fixing for every scene! I don’t like the design but hey at least pick a material that makes it look kickass! It’s all soo stupid! Same with first reveal why can’t they do an iconic pose that would please everyone and get the hype going?! Well it started with letting go of Henry and went downhill ever since…

This is the wrong style of suit for this young guy. It’s like a kid wearing his granddaddy’s clothes. If they wanted that style, it should have been simple as clean. They made it too complicated and the choice of material seems too thick and bulky. The belt looks like it’s made of the same material as the rest of the costume. It’s a dated concept for a young Superman.

Did you ever see the documentary the death of Superman lives? I wish we had gotten that movie.

I think it's terrible looking, I really don't like the Biker jacket look to the suit. How much do you want to bet that he's not going to be wearing it under his street clothes and that it'll be an alien nano-suit Rubbish that grows over him.

" They made it exactly how they wanted it," and thats the problem. The design just doesn't look great at all. (It takes away from all the hard work David corenswet put in at the gym.) He looks like he's wearing a muscle padded suit underneath it's too bulky and wrinkly. 🙅‍♂️

You think about Henry Cavils suit and how awesome it made his performances as Superman ( The suit will do a good portion of the actor's job) just as long as the designs compliments him, perfectly. David is a trained juilliard actor who earned a bachelor of fine arts so he has the chops to pull off the role of Clark kent/ Superman the way Christopher reeve once had.

That seems to be the consensus for a few people

It looks more like the Son of Cal El suit with Kingdom Come trunks. The Emblem is the same as Son of Cal El. I don't like it. It looks like he had to run back to Marvel/Disney and pick out costume material to make his suit. Gunn has no creativity... He's taking the ideas of others and turning them into garbage

@@Superfitcosplay , If you remember, This film was originally Titled Superman Legacy...I even said back then I feel like they were going in the direction of Son of Cal El...Krypto is Superboy's companion...Not Cal El's.

This suit is awful. It looks like a motorcycle jacket. Baggy , full of lines like a marvel suit, no emphasis on Superman body , cheap looking belt.. God I miss the old costumes already. Cavill ,Routh and Hoechlin all have a great suit.. this is garbage. They might fix it in post o he might have a new suit by the end of the movie but this are the pictures and this is what we judge. Thumbs 👎 for me

I detest this suit. It's corny, campy, fits terribly, the logo one the cape is unnecessary, like a cheap over-branded t-shirt. The DIAPER trunks need to go! it's goofy looking for live action! are we still in the 60's?? I'm ok with the colors, the S symbol and the contour lines, even the neck collar I'm liking as it gives it a formal look. This suit would be perfect for like a rated G disney film for your kids.
