James Dyson argued heavily for Brexit. After the UK left the EU, he moved Dyson’s headquarters to Singapore from the UK. When a UK newspaper called him one of the worst examples of what the modern UK produces, he sued for libel and lost.

Never thought I’d dislike a Colbert interview. To see that hypocrite beside Stephen is heartbreaking. I’m a Romanian living in the UK for nearly 2 decades. The damage this man has done to my family is indescribable. I was in the middle of getting British citizenship when this guy and the likes of Gove, Boris & Farage- that dustbin juice of humanity- started trying to convince people it’s in their best interest to leave the EU. The things they said about immigrants were just vile. I never applied for UK citizenship and I never will out of principle. I’m not giving them 2Gs for the privilege of owning a blue passport. Meanwhile, I can’t have relatives over without a visa for more than 3 months, so getting grandparents to help with my newborn is out of the question, and so is caring for my parents in their old age in the UK. And if I go to Romania to do that, I lose all my rights in a matter of years. Meanwhile, if I die here, the gov gets 40% of my assets in inheritance tax. Yet, this guy gets richer every day peddling plastic junk from Asia. And now he’s trying to pull an “it wasn’t me” on us, when everyone knows full well he got rich off of Brexit. All I can say is he has a very fitting name and he should take a hint. As for the producers of this show, please don’t do this again. It’s a disgrace to Stephen’s image to share oxygen with that man. He’s one of my all-time favourite human beings and a saint in my eyes.

We are suffering high cost of living increases due to border controls that were introduced. Paperwork, paperwork paperwork where there was none. We can't go and work in europe as we could before, we can't study in europe as we could before. We import about half our food from europe. When there are shortages in europe the europeans farmers supply european countries first . Who wants to fill in a load of paperwork, who wants to wait in dover for hours having it checked. Just start thr motor and drive to 27 other countries without any checks, any delays. As an engineer this man was a bit of a hero. As a Brit, echoing others. Dyson's most interesting invention was the ball wheelbarrow. He pushed Brexit, with the promise of supporting jobs in Swindon for EV manufacturing. Then moved his corporate HQ to Singapore with the aim of manufacturing in the Far East. When COVID hit, he took government money to design new ventilators. They chose to start with a design that wouldn't provide what patients needed. Just one of a laundry list of government scandals during the pandemic. If you've got him over there, please keep him. @@mduquenoy You are absolutely right. There are reports that Dyson put £20m of his own money into the development effort. There is however the massive scandal of the £277m in government money plowed into the competition to develop new ventilators which didn't do the job. Contracts for these untested designs were prioritised ahead of supplies for existing, approved and tested designs. In a manner not dissimilar to the PPE VIP Lane Scandal Dyson was also caught out using his personal relationship with Johnson to get a tax break for his company in case they had to bring in overseas staff. Not forgetting the point scoring on his competition, bragging about the order ahead of the government announcement. Using a global tragedy as a marketing opportunity. I actively remember reporting at the time one of the biggest criticisms of the whole competition was engineers not listening to or working with Doctors who pointed out the type of ventilator they were designing wasn't appropriate. Although it can be argued that nearly £300m is a drop in the ocean of the billions wasted in unnecessary IT projects, unlawfully issued contracts given to mates and donors, and the billions in fraudulently claimed COVID loans that Sunak blithely wrote off while people who can barely afford to eat live in fear of their benefits being cut off. skwawkbox.org/2020/03/26/tories-ignore-5000-approved-and-ready-ventilators-to-order-10000-new-unapproved-design-from-dyson/ goodlawproject.org/revealed-government-fails-again-to-publish-covid-contracts-worth-248m/

Heck, his success might vanish in the timeline where they didn't make a Star Trek episode about a Dyson sphere. In fact, probably what he really found out through Buckminster Fuller is that he had a ready-made brand in the form of a brilliant futurist he could conflate himself with in the public imagination. And all he had to do was get into consumer electronics.

Putting them in cheap flimsy plastic components and charging 3 to 6 times the price of competitors is one of the worst business models of our times.
