    Yea I like the different iterations in the different time lines. I said this on another comment but I did/do not like his look for the character I don’t think he fits the look. Kirk should be a tad shorter. Or at least not lanky; stalkier and the blonde hair, I think, is a staple of the character as well. That said he is growing on me.. I’m trying. His acting is good I’m just struggling to get past him not looking like James T Kirk to me. Pine and Shatner some how look similar… Pine even got some blonde put in his hair. This guy just doesn’t look anything like Shatner or Pine or how I could/would picture Kirk looking. I feel I can’t be alone on this. But again, that said he is growing on me and I LOVE the shoe and love we are getting more Kirk.

There's something about his confidence, quick wittedness and his ability to do whatever he sets his mind to spontaneously that I like about him. Yeah he's not Shatner and he shouldn't be, otherwise he'd just be doing an impersonation of someone else. As much as I love the growth of Kirk's and Spock's relationship in the 2009 movie (going from adversaries in their first meeting to comrades in arms by the end of the film, and eventually to friends by the next one), this actually felt quite normal and wholesome. To think that a simple handshake would create a lifelong friendship that would result in one sacrificing his life to save the other, and the other risking his career to return the favor soon after.

    I think we see shadows of what happened in the Prime timeline in the Kelvinverse. But the Kelvinverse Kirk was a little older when he headed off to the Academy versus his Prime counterpart. I kind of doubt Spock was there when Kirk pulled his stunt in the original timeline.

  • @astrofan1993

    @astrofan1993

    11 ай бұрын

    @@PeachWookiee I do remember reading the novelization for the 2009 movie, and I believe it was the elder Spock (the one from the Prime Timeline) who said that the crew coming together was the timeline trying to fix itself, so it only makes sense that there are similarities between the two timelines. The novelization also had Starfleet Academy forgiving Kirk for his cheating in the Kobayashi Maru test at the end of the book, awarding him a commendation for original thinking, just like in the Prime Timeline. That being said, there is a general rule of thumb in Star Trek that the only canon material is what is shown on TV and in the movies; novels, short stories, comic books, and video games are non-canon. Due to this, we wouldn't know for certain whether or not Kirk and Spock were at the Academy together, unless explicitly shown in a TV show or movie, so we can only speculate. It would be interesting, however, to see why Spock never took the Kobayashi Maru test if he was the one who designed the thing. You'd think he would have taken the test himself to work out any bugs in the system before releasing the final product. Plus, you would think that Starfleet would required him to take the test, since he was in the chain of command on the Enterprise (despite being in the Sciences division), and eventually became Captain of the Enterprise in The Wrath of Khan.

    I think that was probably the wisdom of having him do the alternate timeline approach. They could only do it for so long but it was a way to get him into the character and see what worked and what didn’t.
