    I love James Cameron. He is living my childhood dream. At 16, I said I would be a Renaissance Man: artist, writer, scientist, filmmaker, but I just didn't know how to make it a reality. Afraid to just quit my job and go for it...Still, nice to see that an artist can create an empire that includes scientific endeavors. I still have drawings from 45 years ago, of creatures, aliens, and heroes that existed in my imagination. Got ripped off when I sent my storyboards, hoping to be discovered, but the studio told me that "coincidences happen all the time...because folks can have similar ideas."

    Directors come from diverse backgrounds, including acting, screenwriting, and even unrelated fields. What's more important is their ability to understand storytelling, work with actors, manage a production team, and bring a vision to life on screen. Illustration skills can certainly be beneficial in certain aspects of filmmaking, such as storyboarding, but they are not a requirement for becoming a successful director.

    Would T2 be possible without The Abyss?

  • @peterlenham3180

    @peterlenham3180

    19 күн бұрын

    @@samokazem2211 One film leads to another in terms of technology. The Abyss was a test for T2, so no it wouldn't have been. However, The Abyss wouldn't have been possible without earlier CGI work, like Tron and Young Sherlock Holmes. So again, one leads to another. T2 was more important, because it was the first MAIN CGI character. The Abyss was only 18 or so shots, in just one part of the movie. It could have been removed from the film had it not worked. The T1000 was the main villain of T2, and a main character, and had around 52 shots, and could not have been removed from the movie, had it not worked. Those shots were spread throughout the film, unlike The Abyss which was just one scene, so the CGI HAD to work for the film to work. The T1000 had to be a threat to the heroes, and the audience. They had to buy that this villain could do all these extraordinary things, things that could only be achieved with convincing CGI. If the CGI had not convinced, it would have ruined the entire movie. So the T1000 was really the first CGI character, when it wasnt actually Robert Patrick, to be important to a films narrative storytelling structure. CGI characters before T2, could all have been taken out of the films, if they hadnt have worked. The stories in those films, didnt revolve around the CGI, like T2's does. They weren't really important to the stories being told. In Terminator 2 the T1000 was important to the story being told, so removing the character if it hadn't have worked wasnt an option.

    James Cameron thinks that drawing is dying, it just goes to show how some people can be so successful and smart and still be so insulated from reality. Because of social media, there’s more people getting more skills faster than ever before even with AI on the rise. Kids have access to knowledge at the tip of their fingers and their skills is much higher than kids before the social media age. I think he looks at it from a point of view of making money from it and not just the love of doing it. There’s people that love doing it more than ever and they do it knowing how unlikely it is that they’ll profit financially from it. If he cares about it he should reach out to some of these online art schools and social media artists and show them some love support.

I'm no fan of 3D but to pretend it's less significant is a bit out of touch. "I wanted to see her hands" - that's just plain boasting, a lot of artists try to hide the hands because they are so difficult to draw

    Becoming a super overrated dude. He made 3 great films. And now he’s the arrogant American doing these Avatars - movies with no story, no character, but technical innovations that other technical experts execute

    3 great films is 3 more than most directors ever make. Besides I think he made more than 3, The Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens, The Abyss, Titanic (a little sappy, but nobody can deny that it's a bloody well made film).. even True Lies to some extent. I consider Avatar 1-2 as his only weaker films, and I wish he wouldn't use the rest of his days into the blue people. Avatar has become too much about the effects, I can't relate to the digital characters enough to care about what happens to them
