My grandson is why I came to listen to this, this was one of his favorite songs. He died in a traumatic unimaginable way this last August, he was 23 and my heart. Awesome music, great taste. Thank you.

I am so very sorry. You having this song is so amazing, though. Trust me, from someone who loves music so very much, i often fantasize about my death as a way of coping with my death.. One of the thoughts i linger on is that i want people to listen to the music I loved and think of me sitting there silently listening with them. Then i will live again.. So, by revisiting this track, you are bringing your grandson back in a pure and powerful moment, as brief as it may be. I send Light to Your healing.

I don't people realize how there was absolutely nothing out there like this in 2011. People don't wanna admit the effects that James Blake and Bon Iver had on the sound of modern hip hop and R&B. 4 years later Blonde came out and had a similar sound and feel.

Very astute. I had that feeling; but you put it into words. Those lashes coming down, the tears refracting the light, giving blurred vision, and how the colors separate, and there's this sense of fog because of the mist covering the eyes. You nailed it, Nathan.

I'm sharing your insight on Facebook my friend. It's that good in my opinion.
I've heard this song a number of times before but the lyrics have never really connected with me until now. I understand the feeling that this song is trying to express. it's not joy or depression or any really one-sided emotion like that. Honestly, the lyrics describe it the best way I could possibly think to describe it. You dont really know what's going on around you, you dont know about yourself, what you want, where you're going. All you know is that you are and that's it. It's not a feeling of being "lost" because that seems too one-sided. "Lost" suggests a state of panic or a set destination that you cant seem to reach. This feeling is more like not really knowing if have a destination at all. The video really illustrates the feeling too because it feels very much like just being surrounded by mist, like you're breathing in mist, like you're becoming mist until your nothing but a wisp of smoke in a field in the middle of nowhere. I've never realized how much of an actualy masterpiece this is until I experienced the feeling it's been trying to express instead of just enjoying the music superficially.

The wilhelm scream is a sound effect that's been used in hundreds of movies, so to me that changes this song. Its about the universal expression of fear and pain and loss, about how the same pain makes the same noise, how can we express ourselves when we all scream the same scream? Everybodies pain is their own pain, totally different and separate from everyone else, yet every sound is the same sound.

Minimalist, death experience. Up-in-the-air, missiles in the sky, thermonuclear flashes, distant white cap mushroom clouds before painless dissociation. The fantasy, before the painful reality kicks in. The collapsing when seeing your friend's coffin. Breathless heart attack, last hallucinations. The extinguishing of thought. Bliss.

Music taste needs to be analyzed
I saw a similar comment about the meaning of this song but just wanted to write about my take on it. To me it describes the feeling you get (sometimes it almost feels like a realization) where you don't understand anything, why you're here, what you're doing, or who you are, but all you know is you simply are. It's the feeling of being. It's the feeling you will only recognize if you've felt this way before. It's the feeling that makes us question our very existence. I wouldn't call it an emotion, but sometimes I'm just sitting there and it hits me but I don't know what to make of it. It's the most difficult feeling to explain in words, but the song lyrics and video together do a pretty good job. If you've ever felt this way then you might know what I'm talking about...

This song is in general the Willhelm Scream, the lyrics represent how the person feels, and the odd vision and raindrops are tear drops and how looks when you try to look around while crying with sick beats and that fire representing a burning feeling inside, yep it's for sure James you got more talent then others would say you lead on.
I herd this tune years ago at the credits of the season finale for a tv show called "togetherness" that no ones ever heard of haha, but its crazy to me how hard this tune hit. I used to listen to Nick Grimshaw’s old radio 1 show every midweek night in bed at 11pm before school the next morning on my old samsung flip up on the Bluetooth radio as I had no space for more than about 3 tunes on my phone. I think I was about 11 or 12 lol.. He introduced me to some really great artists looking back James of course, SBTRKT, jamie woon & magnetic man among others. Probably my first taste of underground music. This was before I got my first iPod nano that Christmas and the first tune I ever bought on any apple device was this one & limit to your love with a prepaid iTunes voucher.. Crazy how music shapes you as a person growing up even at such a young age and how your style evolves overtime

also, listen to this on spotify premium. Its a tad bit better, the bass and highs are a bit nicer. I bit better as you get almost true HD. Spotify has a free premium trial. I think you can either get 2 months free, or 3 months for a total of $1 to try it. I got the 3 month one. I didn't realize what difference it would make but the premium trial music is damn good. The regular free one is kind of like youtube quality sound. I don't work for spotify incase someone is wondering. I said I'd never pay for a streaming service, but I think I'm getting spoiled. Just seems expensive at $10 a month if you decide to keep it.

More than 10 years and this song still sounds timeless
Still loving this, love music you can still feel years later.
If James Blake and FKA Twigs did a collab, most of us would die from musical genius stimulation overload. Don't ever ask for this collab unless you have a deathwish..
After hearing his dad's original version. This song means so much more to me
I've known what the "Wilhelm Scream" is and the uses of it in movies etc., but I am just now beginning to grasp how absolutely hysterical the name of this song is!! hehe
James blake was way ahead of his time
Thom Yorke would dig this
Way ahead of its time. so good!
This song is so beautiful and timeless! 🙌🏽👊🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a sonic marvel this man gave the world. Thank you James Blake
