James Baker: President-Maker (US President Documentary) | Real Stories
The Man Who Made Washington Work is the story of a remarkable politician and statesman who represents a time when a divided Congress got things done, and when presidents and politicians worked together.
James A. Baker III, now 84, helped get three presidents elected, served in top posts for two of them, and was a central player in some of the most momentous events of the late 20th century. With candid testimony from Baker, and first hand accounts from former presidents Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and George Bush Sr, former Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and Henry Kissinger, and former Vice President Dick Cheney, as well as a host of other Washington insiders, journalists and historians, The Man Who Made Washington Work is an eye-opening behind-the-scenes story of power, persuasion and diplomacy at the highest levels.

Great documentary about a truly brilliant American diplomat. James Baker was right when he said “negotiations are about knowing people”…if only our current crop of elected officials could embrace that simple yet profound idea.

Lol. That's a bit of a Strawman argument. In reality, both parties now realize that helping the majority party & opposition party's President pass policy only helps the President's party in the next election... not to mention both parties are funded by virtually the same Corrupting Big Money special interest lobbyists from corporations, billionaires, and other bribing interests.

This was a tremendous documentary from beginning to end. Non-partisan and thoroughly engaging. Great interviews with Presidents Clinton and Carter - along with President H Bush and so many luminaries on both sides of the aisle. I enjoyed learning that Baker and Bush laughed and laughed whenever they were alone together.

@@mikejewpants4099 You dont see what I'm saying do you? There is only one party in Washington and they DO work together to serve themselves. Washington is all about power and money. The bickering we see between the 2 parties is mostly just for show....kinda like pro wrestling. Behind the scenes is where you'll find they can all come together scratching each others backs to make money or gain power. This is why real true progressives like Jimmy Dore hate the Democrats and conservatives hate the Republicans. They make what is called "The Establishment"......and they serve themselves.

I recall that period when I became aware men such as Baker had means & opportunities once out of Public Office to feather their own nests further from connections they had made whilst in Govt. . I intuitively thought this is like profiting off the backs of those they once represented. They would have an access to Classified Info. where they could perhaps make Investments in Foreign businesses,; it seemed like a version of Insider Trading - my trust in Elected officials took a big dent. Democracy asks the ordinary citizen to place our faith and trust in them, after all they have the power to take us into war and it is we who do the actual fighting, etc. and I thought it STANK. Whether or not it be simply a "fact of life " just doesn't cut ... it never will ... There should be very strict legislation preventing them or members of their families from slyly profiting off the sweat of the average citizens back by making any type of Investment for a period after leaving office. To lend their acquired 'expertise' to their own Govts. is fine, but not otherwise.

Such accusations are always hurled at those who have to make major, wide-encompassing international decisions. None of those decisions ever have a perfect option that turns out well for everyone in the varied circumstances of human history. If things had turned out better for you, someone else would be claiming that "this decision-maker ruined my life". The key is to take whatever circumstances you find yourself in and do the best you can to move forward. There will always be somebody or something to blame if you wish to bad enough- no matter how far removed the on being blamed actually is from your life.

I bet out of all Presidents. I bet the ones that didn't do anything. Can fit on one hand or so. Including socially flirted like some did or having mistresses, etc.

Your account of the US Supreme Court decision is of bias and amnesia. The court’s decision was that the Florida Supreme Court’s decision came about by rewriting Florida Law without the Florida Legislature. The methods used for recount varied.

No, the only ones who are responsible are the ones who commit the crimes. A vote isn't a vote to commit crimes, its a vote for not commiting crimes...

I really hate to be impertinent but there comes a time when what needs to be said needs to be said. What you are now witnessing in America is more than just the collapse of the American Dream. There is no longer any question about what happens when a nation rejects the authority of their Creator, puts the citizens in charge of their own government, and allows them to make their own laws. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fool despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that listens to council is wise.” Proverbs 12:15 “There is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof are the was of death.” Proverbs 16:25 “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Ecclesiastes 8:11
