James Acaster - Highlights from Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 | Universal Comedy

Комедия

Full of absolute scabs.
WINNER OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING SHOW AT MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL 2019
“There’s a rush you get when you watch a routine that has been burnished to gem-like perfection, every phrase and pause chiselled and grooved to maximise the surprise; I felt drunk on it after two hours of this set. Joke after joke operates on a plane to which standup seldom ascends.”
-The Guardian, A COMEDY GENIUS AT THE PEAK OF HIS POWERS
“James Acaster already has a reputation as a comedy craftsman, but here he has surpassed even his own superlative standards…the way Acaster constructs his story, the way he develops themes and teases out humorous strands, is true genius.”
-Evening Standard, COMIC GENIUS DELVES DEEP INTO HIS PSYCHE
“A revelation…career-defining two hour show.”
-The I Paper, SUBLIME
Filmed 17.01.2019 EartH in Hackney, London.

His bit about the trans community is absolutely on point. Yes, comedy is supposed to challenge people. It's supposed to challenge people who actually need challenging. The establishment, authority figures, people who think they're untouchable. "Challenging" a group of people who are challenged on a daily basis for simply existing is not comedy, it's just bullying.

The thing about Acaster is, his work is hugely prolific- This special was 2 and a half HOURS in one shot, and his last special released was a four one-hour package called "Repertoire." He also writes for TV and has written two books. The guy is brilliant in live and improv situations and is one of the great talk, quiz, or panel show guests of all time. Personally, I'd put him over Will Farrel or John Mulaney or and JIm Carrey. Do yourself a favor and go down the rabbit hole. Just look up his James Acaster Classic Scrapes clips. There are hours of stories of his weird fucking life that he puts together like Spaulding Grey. He is a very good storyteller.

@@thewizardssleeve119 “how are trans people oppressed”? Well funny you should ask. Whenever a person comes out as trans there is always an overwhelming amount of abuse from right wing commentators and people who get mad because they don’t understand them. Trans rights are consistently being either taken away or not given to in the first place, the trans ban from the military, the lack of unisex toilets, lack of medical care because they are trans etc. The hysteria when trans people are in the bathroom of their choice is always upsetting and overwhelming for the trans person. The lack of understanding by the general public on trans people and how gender is fluid so many will refuse to even accept them as their preferred gender. That doesn’t even go into just general discrimination when applying for jobs and every day life like verbal and physical abuse

I was actually a fan of Gervais since the beginning, and I still think this set is funnier, smarter and fresher than anything Ricky's done in ages, and it's 100% fair criticism. I honestly don't understand people who fly into a rage because someone points out that a comedian they like has gone a bit hacky & out of touch. It's like they're being forced to experience ego death if they acknowledge their favorite entertainers aren't perfect people.

"Political ideology" seems to be the only thing you can talk about in the comments. Also getting this mad at a comment saying they dislike Gervais' jokes is pretty weak if you ask me. You're the kind of person who insults people by saying "oh what a snowflake" when they call you out on bullying, but then reacts like this when someone even mildly disagrees with you. It is punching down if you make fun of a group that is constantly bullied. And honestly, most comedy is "punching" one way or another. comedy that's punching up is funny, punching down is cheap and reliant on bigotry. Way to start a fight over such a lighthearted comment. Way to go! So challenging of you.
