Jameela the gorilla from the Cleveland Zoo makes her WKYC debut
Cleveland Zoo officials said her birth in early January made international headlines after life-threatening complications threatened the health of her mother, Sekani, requiring an emergency cesarean -- the first in Fort Worth Zoo’s history.
“Unfortunately, Sekani and other female gorillas at Fort Worth Zoo did not show maternal behaviors that would indicate a successful bond with Jameela,” according to the zoo’s previous announcement. “After attempts to introduce Jameela into the Fort Worth Zoo’s gorilla troop, it was collectively determined that her next best step is a move to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo where every effort will be made to successfully integrate her into their troop.”
Zoo officials previously said the Gorilla Species Survival Plan (SSP) has been advising and supporting the Fort Worth team since Jameela was born “and ultimately determined that Cleveland Metroparks Zoo was the next best opportunity for Jameela to find a foster gorilla.”
Jameela's arrival comes as zoo officials say Cleveland’s troop had recent success in gorilla fostering after the eldest female quickly adopted Kayembe in 2021 after his birth mother “similarly didn’t display proper maternal care.”

I've been following Jameela since the c-section and am so happy that she is thriving in her new home with her new mom. I still think of her bio-mom Sekani and hope she is able to have another baby to bond with.

@@PatriciaSanches-wb6pi The zoo announced they will build new habitats for the gorillas and orangutans. It will be called Primate Forest. Good news for all. Construction starts in the fall - it will be done in phases.

@@PatriciaSanches-wb6piYou can look at the Cleveland MetroParks Zoo socials or KZread and it’s going to be called Primate Rainforest but it’s already under construction so it will open in segments because it’s HUGE. It’s really what all zoo’s and Aquarium’s are trying to get done for non human primates. It will show how the primatologist and zoo staff actually train and do medical checks with the actual primates coming over when they want it done and other primates husbandry also. Also much of zoo’s and Aquarium are helping with huge amounts toward conservation and education in Africa as well. So there’s a lot happening but you can find a small updates about it. Hopefully we’ll learn more but this is something we want done correct and not necessarily the quickest.

There’s KZread information on Cleveland MetroParks Zoo and their other social medias. It’ll probably be opened in sections as well but we’re waiting for more information from the actual Zoo society regarding all the details.

I so love this ❤, Freddie is so amazing for stepping in as a surrogate mom once again. I was so worried for Jameela to see her biological mom didn’t take well to her after the C-section. But where there is will there is away. Just glad this baby gorilla gets to thrive and be apart of a loving troop. 😊

Jameela may be the Supersatr, but Freddy is The Gorilla Queen! She is the adoptive mother of not only Jameela, but Kayembe as well.
I would love to see Jameella going to her real, natural habitat in Africa.
Jameela has the perfect surrogate mum (mom), in Frederica. The way Frederica keeps Kyembe at a distance until he understands that his new sister is still too young for rough play. It is also great management that Cleaveland Zoo, with their lengthy experience have kept Frederica and Jameela away from the silver backs at the zoo. Frederica appears calm and confident and Jameela is such a pretty baby gorilla. I believe that this ape species was on the Ark in the story of Noah and the Flood in the Book of Genesis 6:19. I don't believe in evolution since the Living God created man in His image that is Spirit, but man sinned, and his nature changed from perfect and sinless to corrupt and sinfull. All the same God created the creatures also vegetarian, but after the Fall of mankind, and after the curse of sin came upon the earth, animals became carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore.

I know people really love the gorillas, but they are very intelligent and they are in a cage. They should be rehomed to sanctuaries who have no cement blocks, but all natural trees and grass surrounding them.

This news reporter is horrible. I don't know why he keeps trying so hard to insert himself into the video. I'm here for Jameela. He ruined the video.
Balloons and a banana? How about a donation and just focus on the interview? If you feel I need to donate something, ask the zoo for their wish list. Or maybe bring some thing for the keepers.
