If anything, Jamal musta felt like he already won once he heard Latika’s voice. Knowing that she was safe & that she was watching

1:44 that hint of a smile on Salim’s face says so much. He knows he’s done. For him it’s over, but it’s not for Jamal and Latika. They made it out of all this and he knows it. And after everything, he’s smiling because in the end he was rooting for them and in this very moment he realizes they’ve won. Regardless of the money, the two of them won. So in a way, they won for all three of them. Now he can die in peace. Such a small, brief, but powerful moment.

It is Bruno Mars, his acting work in this film was amazing

When he heard Latika's voice, he knew exactly at that moment he has won at life.

One more thing that gives so much power to the scene is the fact that Latika was one of the only two people that were part of Jamal's life. Ones he had known from childhood and were the only ones he had in the world.

Hans Zimmer had said that "Latika's Theme" was the most perfect love theme. While most of the focus was on Jai Ho when ARR won Oscars, Grammys etc for Slumdog Millionaire, tracks like Latika's Theme, Mausam and Escape were appreciated by connoiseurs.

Good to see this scene uploaded for studying. It's really great example of editing and screenplay.

This was the most edge of the seat scene, in my opinion. Very well done!

The girl played a great character , she told the guy to forget her

I remember showing this to my roommate during our freshman year of college, and as Latika rushes to the get the phone, my mom called to innocently ask a question. What a way to ruin the suspense.

Suspenseful, exciting, beautiful

One of my fav movies of all time. My fav character is jamal.

The fact that Jamal stalled a bit, read the question, asked her if she's safe, the host telling her to answer for some time, and then Latika saying she's safe, doesn't know, and said goodbye to Jamal before cutting off has got to be the LONGEST Non Anime 30 seconds ive seen.

agreed. the way her breathe and voice is projected through the studio, and how they show her as a child when they first met, and the ringtone on the phone and how it creates suspense. All really well done.
