Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs are still free agents, what does that say about the Seahawks?

Спорт

Good to the current regime, but this is not a flattering look for the previous regime.

Yah, I remember being PISSED we didn't take Humphrey... and now he's one of the best centers in the league... *sigh* I mean it helps he has Mahomes and Reid... Carroll prob. would've tried to slide Humphrey to guard, then bench him, then start him... then trade him and have him be an all pro elsewhere..

just for the record, Adams tore a major muscle right off the bone. It was a rare injury you might see in an ATV or car accident and required an experimental surgery to reattach it. To my knowledge, no NFL player has had this surgery before and there was little chance he would ever come back whole. He should have retired instead of risking reinjury. As for Diggs, his stats were slipping as he grew older and more expensive. The Seahawks drafted Jerrick Reed II to replace him and he'll do just fine.

Diggs also had that major season ending injury - he never quite returned the same after that. Same with Adams... you could see last year Adams lost all explosiveness, he came back and mailed it in for another year paycheck.. that's it. I wouldn't even want Adams on the field if he came in for the league minimum. I'd rather just have the younger guys step in and see what you've got. That's what drove me NUTS with Derrick Hall (EDGE). We spent nearly a first round pick on him and Carroll wouldn't put him in even when the season was basically lost. I don't care if he gets beat... you've got the worst TOP/3rd worst 3rd down conversion % allowed in the league... THROW him in... Jesus. There was a comment on a Seahawks KZread video a couple weeks ago from someone saying, "Seattle is not that deep at EDGE. We only have Mafe, Nwosu, and Taylor." Jesus, people forgot we even spent an EARLY 2nd round pick on the guy let alone have him on our roster... you expect an early 2nd to be a solid starter or potential pro bowler... Mafe was a later 2nd round pick for context. Wagner was a mid 2nd round pick. Not saying Hall will be a future HOFer... but get him the F out there. I believe Mac will get Hall up to speed.

Very nice video. As someone who had verbal spats with other Seahawks fans about Jamal Adams under your videos, I find it validating that if the season started today, our starting LBs would be John Rhattigan and Patrick O'Connell, and a couple months ago, everyone was teased by the possibility of us re-signing Jamal Adams as a linebacker. I believe we could have him for free, because the amount of his salary we're already paying him in dead cap exceeds whatever he would sign for. And we're still passing! We're actually paying Adams to stay away. I guarantee you Jody said something like "I don't ever want to see that guy in a Seahawks uniform again".

In part but it was a combination of things last year. The team quit on Pete. Players were visibly frustrated. Metcalf was shown a few times just waving his hand down like, "Whatever." while walking off the field. The D stopped caring and was frustrated. Guys laughing on the sideline while losing... McVay, Shanny (and other decent coaches)... 100% knew how to exploit Pete's cover 3 which they had a decade of footage on and that D which hadn't changed AT ALL. And Pete just kept slamming everyone's head against the wall. "Nope cover 3 soft zone. Eh let's blitz once. Oh great it worked. Now back to cover 3 soft zone. Let's force Woolen to make the tackle on CMAC with a lead blocker!" Like WTF? I swear Pete was going senile towards the end there... Seattle had PLENTY of talent on D once they got Williams. Even PFF gives them like 11th overall in defensive grades... yet they were one of the worst defenses in the NFL allowing the worst TOP. Now some will argue, "But the offense is accountable for TOP!" Uh... not when your defense is 3rd worst in 3rd down conversion percentages allowed. I really don't get why people are predicting Seattle to be a top 10 draft pick team, or be a 7 win team. I know it's a new coaching system, but Seattle's team has a TON of talent. I fully expect playoffs from them this year. Who did they lose? Bobby Wagner is big but Bobby Wagner was visibly running on empty the 2nd half the season. Losing Adams/Diggs is an IMPROVEMENT... who else? Damien Lewis and Evan Brown were horrible. It's the same team with vast improvements at various positions. And Haynes should start at RG day 1 over Bradford... he has a ton of NCAAF experience. His age dropped him to the 3rd round, but he should've been a 2nd round pick. He was by far the best pure RG prospect in the draft.

Neither is a good tackler, one of them can't stay healthy and likes to belittle the press and doesn't care to have any class or professionalism, not shocking they are not on a team. Diggs is a bit shocking, but honestly, he isn't a very good tackler and I saw way too many plays in the last 2 years that he literally just took off or made a business decision. Couple that with safety being devalued, yeah I think they are emergency options for teams only. Something else though, at least with Diggs, he has played a lot of football and may just not want to do it anymore. Maybe he announces his retirement soon.

They were two of the worst safeties in the league last year... ditch them both. We have TONS of depth in the secondary, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mac moves Spoon to some SS (and moves Love to nickel) on certain plays. Spoon has the football IQ to do it and Love already plays nickel. Hell you could also bring in Bryant at nickel on run downs and shift Spoon outside.. or Spoon and Bryant and in a DIME formation. If Seattle could use the extra $7.5M anywhere right now I'd say another LBer would be good. Dodson/Baker still have some nagging injuries (they both know WILL/MIKE so that's whatever, they're not learning anything else) but outside of that all we really have is Knight who is a 4th round pick. Knight has the physical traits/frame to play all 3 (WILL/MIKE/SAM) and his gap understanding was probably one of the best in NCAAF, but it may not translate to the NFL level... he'll need some time being coached. I don't see him getting much action this year.

What those two put on film their last two years in Seattle was a nightmare of how not to play safety in the NFL. How can anyone be shocked. Both couldn't cover anyone. Both couldn't tackle. If you can't do those two things you shouldn't be on an NFL football team. Both being paid like they were the best in the NFL playing bottom 5 and I'm being kind. It was like Seattle was playing with 9 guys on the field when they were playing. Adams was never good but at least Diggs had his moments when he wasn't horrible. Adams never did. He should give back every penny he signed for because he was signed to play NFL football and pretty much never did.

It's easy to blame Jamal for his unclassy reactions to the low points this year. Can't blame him for injuries and definitely cannot blame him for the insane trade for him, or the extension JSPC gave him. That's on them. Same on Quandre: he was a good player for a time, but not worth the contract JSPC gave him. Assuming JS was overruled by PC (which is a common assumption by 12s, but JS himself says is not true), Schneider gets an awful lot of leeway for those transactions. Especially concerning the Adams trade, hopefully we will never go back to that kind of GMing.

They were horrible for years yet he kept giving them another year when it was showing on the field it wasn't working. Last year they may not have been a top tier defense, but they shouldn't have been one of the worst in the NFL either. That was on Pete. Pete was good for Seattle.
