As a Jamaican I feel extremely proud hearing my causation Jamaicans brothers and sisters speak this way as I’ve never known any Jamaican you held racial bias against them , the motto “ out of many one people “ is indeed profound . I wish that we could invite the leaders of some of the world’s biggest hate groups to experience what we have Well said my Lady
Schools in Jamaica was no joke..... excellent education. My favorite candy, all of them. More stories, thanks for the memories.

I too have beautiful memories of schooling in Jamai ca. First at Infant School then St. George's Girls School and Kingston Technical. Then on to Exed before migrating. I still remember passages of scripture which we were taught. A different passage every week and you had to repeat it at morning worship. Your uniform blouses were so white and every pleat on your skirt was in place. Of course if you misbehaved, you'd go to the Headmistress' office for punishment. Those teachers will always be remembered fondly.
Brought back memories! Sr Maureen Clare, Sr Josette, Sr James Vincent, Sr Marie Emmanuel, Sr Mary Catherine. Mrs Chin, Ms Franker, Ms Robotham, Ms Sandy, I could go on and on. Went to Stella Maris then to ICHS prep and high schools. How blessed were we!!!

Wow so many names that conjure up associated memories. We really were blessed!! 💕
I started schooling in Jamaica and finished last years inc college and university in U.K. Education in Jamaica is far superior to education in U.K. For instance surprisingly English Language by the time I got to U.K. I was by far advanced to the kids in U.K. I went to Grammer School in U.K. based on 11+ exams the level of which I had already sat aged 8 and 9 in Jamaica . As a poor child in Jamaica we used to sit and watch the wealthy kids traipsing in and out of Monroe College nearby and long and yearn for the privilege , so we grab it when it comes .

Cindy Breakespeare said that all the discipline she has in her life came from her time at ICHS. I look back on those days with fondness and gratitude for all I learned there - respect for your elders, good manners, strong morals, etc. Many of the day students never knew that there were nuns who left early every morning to run the "creches" for the less fortunate children of the area.

The prep school continued as a day school. It was just the convent itself that closed down. And yes, The Brown's Town Community College was launched in the convent buildings. But I suppose because you were a boarder that wouldn't have worked for you. Do you remember that fabulous big hall / gymnasium w- that very proper theater stage? Was Sister Bonaventure or Sister Casamayor there when you went? Chuckles at the idea of a feisty young boarder at immaculate, ... with no means of escape I might add. I have a girl cousin that went to immaculate back in the day - D. Cardoza.

In my day, not one boy was allowed on campus unless he was a close relative of a student. There were no dances, so much so, I am amused when I see the girls at their prom dresses. We boarders could never wear a sleeveless dress, no pants, except the awful bloomers at PT in the summer house. I go back a very long time - Eddie Seaga used to pick up his sisters. Anyone remember the mccaws that Sr. Anne kept in the sunken garden? One bird had a missing leg. Talk about discipline, there were mango trees dripping with ripe fruit and God help the boarder who dared to pick one up from the ground. Oh, the memories!
