Biggest thing Brunson missed out on was working with all these generational players closely for 2 months. Typically a few young players really grow to another level after the Olympics, weve seen it all the time. Even after FIBA 2023, a lot of the guys on that team made a leap this past season. So, I expect ant and Hali to make huge jumps coming into next season. It is what it is, jbs gonna come back with a vegenance for sure

Why is this a conversation? Brunson deserved to be on the squad, but his hand is injured. He can’t play now. Someone else rightfully needed to take his spot.

You can see he was upset for not being considered for the Olympic roster as a role point guard. He should have made the cut as a way to reward his past commitment to the team.

Brunson was given the keys to last year's FIBA team pretty much from Day 1 and was outplayed by Ant, Bridges, and Hali and the team failed to medal. International rules just seem to punish Brunson's exact archetype-undersized ball-pounding scorers reliant on driving to the paint-since there's no defensive three seconds. It places a premium on pull-up shooters with size which is why KD and Melo are the greatest Olympic players of all time and why Booker was favored even though he's not as good as Brunson in a vacuum. Other than drawing charges, Brunson doesn't bring a complementary skillset like the other guards do: Ant/Jrue have their defense, Hali is the only elite facilitator other than LeBron, and Steph is the greatest off-ball player of all time (and will be playing with a shorter three-point line to boot).

Pacers didn’t win because of Haliburton. Pacers won because the Knicks were injured as hell. They were without OG, Randle, Bogi and Mitch. Still took them 7 games, too. Hali isn’t better. He mostly played well at home or when the team was up bc he’s a front runner.

back in 2004 when the States lost in the Olympics I would read plenty of comments saying "the states should've sent the Detroit Pistons (the nba champions that year) instead" it would be kind of like sending the Boston Celtics this year (although someone would have to replace Porzingis) so like Jaylen Brown would be going (I don't think he was invited to camp) Derrick White would be going etc
