Yea I hear the hypocrisy but at the same time; when they’re claiming he can’t win w/o pacers make him the pacer then try to outlast or out kick him. Its smart racing strategy tbh

@@tylerbrubaker_7 for sure its smart. but it's a little bit ridiculous for Kerr to act like Jakob is so weak in championship races because he relies on a pacer when Kerr wouldn't win anything without people up front. Even in a paced race after WC he lost to Nguse. It is very smart racing but it looks rather weak talking smack on Jakob on whatever podcast will give him a platform.

Honestly, there are at least 6 athletes that I could easily see winning this race, it all comes down to who’s the healthiest on the day and who runs the best. Can’t wait .

@@sealdan88 completely agree, he looked super strong in the world championships this year, and he’s definitely still improving.

Let’s not forget Yared Nuguse’ 3:43.97 at the Prefontaine Classic, Nuguse who looked amazing setting the American Record and the fourth fastest mile of all time was just 3 tenths behind Ingebrigsen who barely held Nuguse off. Nuguse did not quite put together that kind of finish at the World Championships, but Nuguse was still only 6 tenths of a second off Ingebrigsen.

Agree - However, JI lead (time trialled) the whole way and still held him off at the finish. If it was the other way around, I don’t think Nuguse would’ve held him off in the final 100-200

Honestly don’t think Nuguse could have ran that without Jakob pacing him. Don’t think he had a chance of winning that race, he just held on to Jakob.

Barely hold off? Nuguse never got any closer, plus he had a pacer the entire race… Whereas Jakob has shown time and time again that he has potential to run amazing times in several distances

Jacob thrives on pressure. We'll see if he can rise to the occasion and run his legs faster than Kerr's mouth. If he does, no one will be able to catch him.

He hasn’t really thrives on pressure in the past. He was somewhat of an underdog in Tokyo. And in the diamond league he uses pacers and wave lights rather than races. And to make sure his legs run faster than his kerrs mouth, he needs to race it. Not time trial it

I’m not so sure he does . Both times he lost to , wightman & Kerr , both runners had kept up with him all the way , usually he has broken the field with say 2-300 m left , when both those runners were still with him going around the final bend , he was unable to pull away and was beaten pretty much in identical ways .

I love this new style of videos. Very suspenseful!!

The thing is, if Jakob runs his best race, he is likely to win easily, but he can't risk hanging around. There are plenty of people who will challenge him and are even likely to beat him if they are still in touch at the bell and the pace is not ridiculously fast. I don't know what the schedule is like for Paris, but Jakob needs to commit 100% to the 1500m final, if he is going to win. It will be interesting to see how everyone's build goes this year, then we'll have a better idea of what people may be capable of. If Nordas continues to improve like last year and Jakob doesn't push things on further, it could be very tight even with Jakob running really fast. We also can't rule out Yared Nuguse, Mohammed Katir and even Tim Cheruiyot all of whom have thrown down some great times and in the case of Nuguse and Katir still seem to be improving. Whatever happens the 1500m is looking really strong and should be a great event.

For me this year the more exciting narrative in the 1500 is the continued development of the young Dutch sensation Niels Laros!

The clickbait is getting so annoying.

I believe Yared will win. Jakob is my favorite but Yared is on a crazy trajectory.

So great to see this profile on Narve. Massive improvement in 2023, like Nuguse in 2022. I see Nuguse as the biggest challenger. Jakob is by far the best 1500 and mile runner. Looking past his 3.:27.14, a gold in Paris would cements his place in history as one the greatest champions of all time. No doubt Jakob will aim for peak health at that time :-) Let it rip.

I have been saying since the worlds that Nordas was going to win the 1500 at the Paris Olympics, and I still believe it. However, Jakob is my favorite, and I want him to win to quite all the haters.

1500m smack talk is something I didn't know I needed in my life.

The reason Nordås was able to close Jakob is because Jakob, seeing his inevitable loss to Kerr, had given up, while Nordås still had everything to race for. Had Jakob sensed he still had the opportunity to win, there is no way Nordås would have come within 3/100 s.

Well done, insightful documentary. In spite of all the drama, family drama, smack talk, and trying to get into and attack Jakob's head, I suspect Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be well-prepared in all respects for Paris 2024. However, I think you've presented a valid case for Mr. Nordas---he will be in Paris to medal, but foremost of all---go for the gold. It will be fascinating to watch the games. Really, though it is now a much different time, with runners earning a living from success in non-Olympic competition. Regardless, it IS the Olympic Games that will indeed bring out the best and leave a lasting legacy for the winners, and to a certain extent, the other medalists. I wanted to bring out the example from an earlier but significant era; Finland's Lasse Viren. He was virtually unknown going into the '72 Olympics, though he had very recently set the world record in the 2-mile run. Lasse's double victory amidst a very talented field stood the distance running world on its ear. Yet, in the intervening years, Lasse did not compete much in major events, much to the surprise and consternation of the competition. But, when he returned to the Olympic stage at Montreal in 1976, he shut everybody up with what has gone down as the greatest 5,000 meters gold medal victory race ever run! It's easy to prognosticate ad nauseum, but I'll simply say, we shall see but we shall see. Thank you again, for a relevant and well researched documentary.

Not in the Olympics he doesn't. Having Heats, Semi, then Final tends to blunt the top times plus not having pacemakers tends to put a dampener on middle/long distance track races. No one wants to lead and provide cover for those other really fast runners whose only goal is to WIN. From memory I think the last time the World Record was recorded in the 1500 final was in 1960 with the great Australian Herb Elliot.

Just dont think the world record is a concern to anyone in this season..... but you raised my curiosity on whether Jakob would try to compete in both 1500 and 5000..... I remember back in tokyo, the schedule did not give any possibility, but what if paris does give a 2 to 3 days gap between these 2 events...... Agreed!! It's a point left out of these videos. Who else running against Jacob has had a couple of 5000m against the world best in their legs before running the 1500m final against the worlds best. Missing the 5000m might not result in a world record 1500m but will for sure improve his shot at 1500m gold.

Something crucial here is the break between Jakob and his coach and father Gjert. Gjert has said that his children aren’t special, and he can coach anyone to become world class. He is proving this with the otherwise previously underwhelming Nordås. Crazy times

As someone not that up to speed on middle distance running I'm trying to understand, if Kerr and Nordas have a faster finish than Ingebrigtsen, shouldn't Ingebrigtsen aim to flat pace the race at a faster pace than Kerr and Nordas can hold to neutralize their fast finish?

Nordås won the "Breakthrough of the year" award at the Norwegian Sports Awards just a few hours ago.

The way Ollie hoare won the commonwealth games shows he’s capable of winning as is nuguse - add that to Nordas kerr wightman Jakob and Laros who’ll be a year older and maybe improved enough to be in contention it’s race of the championship

This Josh Kerr hype is off the charts - he promptly got outkicked by Nuguse in his next Diamond League 1500 following Budapest, despite having pacers in the Zurich race to help him break GB’s natl record, and was suddenly “tired” (i.e., he “couldn’t” run in the Pre Classic in Eugene) after Ingebrigtsen set another WR in Brussels (this time in the 2000m) - probably a smart move by Kerr, though, since Ingebrigtsen just missed a 3rd WR in 2023 in the mile and followed that up with a ER in the 3000m the next day @ the Pre Classic - until Kerr changes his sit & kick style (detested by knowledgeable track fans) to the hammer-it-from-start-to-finish approach run by Prefontaine in the ‘70s and Ingebrigtsen & Nuguse now…let’s just say Ingebrigtsen’s 2023 will never be forgotten and may never be replicated, while Kerr’s one win v. Ingebrigtsen was just another sit & kick yawner

It’s not hate. Jakob is an incredible talent but has lost twice on the big stage - clearly, no debating. And getting the WR after running rounds is no easy feat. Definitely not a feat that Jakob shows he’s anywhere near capable of doing. Don’t underestimate that record.

Really!!! He was 5 seconds behind JI in the 3.43 mile. With so much talent, the olympics will be fast from the start, so he’ll be no where

i think a lot of ppl also underestimate the progress of another even younger talent, Niels Laros, mark my words, he will be a threat for the podium as well. you could see at the worlds that he was in the top 3-4 most of the race, except for the closing lap, so all he has to improve is his last lap, if he can do that he is in the mix i think.

Jakob is going to game plan even better now. Jakob's inexperience was what hurt him in those 2 races. He now knows what these dudes are hiding and what they are going to try to do. Jakob is going to drown these dudes its not even close. Jakob's consistency is unmatched.

I am thinking these problems for JI are of a strategic nature and with a little thinking himself he can overcome their challenges. Sometimes winning has its own issues.

*Gjert intensifies* honestly the sons' lack of respect this year over their dad's teaching methods upset me last year. It reminds me of the film Whiplash... most walk away thinking the band leader was an a-hole, but I walked away thinking "well that's what it takes to be the Charlie Parker of Drums." and his soft film-dad would have preferred him as a mediocre coffee barista. Similarly if Nordas, a natural-born teen phenom athlete, is happy taking on Gjert's methods without whining this year, Jakob, his brothers, and the world are in for a surprise. Jokob still has the upper-hand having gone under 3.38 but if his momentum falters, he's screwed.

To preface, I'm a massive Jakob fan and hope he wins at Paris, but if you're referring to last years World Champs then what you've said is incorrect. The heats, semis and final of the 1500m all came before the 5000m. The final of the 1500m took place on 23 August, the heat of the 5000m on 24 August. If I've misinterpreted your post, my apologies.

Jakobs father Gjert is now training Narve. The brothers and Gjert have fallen out of lait.

Kerr will get injured and not compete in the olympics. Remember where you hard it first :)

Although you are the worlds desidedly best runner in a distance you are of course not immune against sickness, but I cannot understand why its so big to beat a man which is not at his best then you can clearly see he is charactericized of illnes. People that know Jakob Ingebrigtsen could just look at him in that race and see that he was not healthy. As the by far fastest runner in the pack, he was ofcourse asked if he was sick. He will never blame others than himself, but then he at last answered that question and told that he had a fever, one of the other runners typically called him a bad looser. To be healthy at the most importent race day for the season is a big part of the game, but people that have worked with Jakob can tell that he is a nice guy, he is never blaming others than himselves for bad races, and has always been extreamly strong in his head. The Norwegian team doctor told that Jakob had got an inflammation and had some fever during the night before but despite if this he just had to try to run the 1500 m final. Of course, as a runner of his icredible high level he must also be allowed to be disappointed, and it's incredible that more people don't see that Jakob is running much slower than normal, and remember that he is the only one that don't have a pacer through all the runs. And when he is healthy he always runs the two last laps significantly faster than anyone else are capable to. In the 5000 m final his health was somewhat improvinga, but because he was not yet decleared healthy enought to use the tactics he loved by taking the lead in the last 1000 m, he had to use his strongest part, his head. And based on the conditions he had that day he made a almost perfectly tactically executrd race then he became World Champion for the second time in a row. He is a extremely good long distance runner which love the middle distances.

Can someone get this guy a proper pacemaker for the diamond league meetings. These haphazard pacers are destroying his chances of breaking the world records.

I don't think that he has a slight chance to beat Jacob , did you watch the 5000m final and how far back he was behind Jacob . He doesn't have near the strength of Jacob . And when he set his PB's is the mile and 2000m , who destroyed him in both races . Give me a break , if someone has the balls , other than Jacob , to lead a fast pace in the Olympic final , I'll have more respect for him the Nordes . Nordes is a follower not a Leader . I think Yared and Jacob will finish one-two in the Olympic Final . With a suprise in third ( not Wightman, Kerr or Nordes)

Unless someone goes out hard and leads for the first 1km in sub 3.30 pace with Jakob sitting in I can't see Jakob winning. If he has to do all the work and make it fast on his own he'll run out of steam and get overtaken. If it's slower he will get out kicked. No one will do the pacing for him if they have any sense.

Just don't forget that Jakob was sick during that wc

Basing a lot of stuff off one race. What I find interesting is pacing strategy. If I were capable of a 1500 world record and totally healthy on finals day at the Olympics, I'd want to lead from start to finish. No tactical race for me. Of course, Ingebrigtsen and others will race more than one event and tactics will be most important. BTW, Ingebrigtsen's performances in the world cross-country championships are more interesting to me than what he does on the track. But no one cares about X-C and the Olympics are the most glamorous track races.
