@@Michael-ue9us I mean.. for most people.. just running an entire hour-long threshold each week is risky. That's where I am at and recovery is not so easy. HRV and RHR took a big hit for two days since the 1.5 hour threshold I ran on Sat (short rest intervals). I don't think I can do that twice per day yet. I *might* be able to reduce it to an hour and run an hour tempo in the morning, but that would be pretty tough on me. It's not just how you feel. If your cardiovascular system is showing no recovery, then how much adaptation can you really expect from a second threshold on those days? I could reduce them further to like 45 minute threshold runs with no rest intervals, I guess, but would that be more effective? Not sure.

@@noosphericaltarzan1.5 hours of threshold in one session is a lot! The Ingebrigtsens might 10×1km or 5x2km at threshold. Which would only be about 30 minutes of running. Even their daily jogs don't go above about 40 minutes. So no single jog or threshold session is too taxing on the body. Which allows them to do two jogs a day or two threshold sessions a day. Instead of one 1.5 hour threshold a week, maybe try three 30 min threshold sessions a week and see how that affects your body. The same total time spent at threshold but spread out over the week. I'm not a coach though, just a runner too. But that would be my approach.

I realize this is controversial, but I do not think the current elite marathon body type is optimal. I think a better athlete should be a mix of FT and ST. That FT fibers can be trained to fire in a cycle and recover just fine. It comes down to LT, which he obviously has somewhere above 95% MHR, and muscle stamina. If you just look at his body, he seems to be that perfect combination. As far as training his aerobic base.. okay. He could spend the entire off-season focusing on that, assuming it’s not already fully developed anyway. I am not saying he necessarily will break Kipchoge, but he likely could train for a solid year and compete at an elite level, no problem. I simply do not agree with starving oneself to i crease specific power. Jakob can increase it with his FT fibers. I could be wrong. I can’t exactly prove this myself, but I do think the day is coming when you see a guy like this finishing near 120 min.

@@kingplays5369 You could say the same thing before any paradigm shift in any sport. We didn’t know that much about neuromuscular and metabolic efficiencies even ten years ago. Most runners still think VO2Max is the the most important variable. Most distance runners think the best way to improve specific power is to starve themselves rather than increase force production while leaning down naturally using intensity control training. Again, I admit it is controversial, but the idea that Jakob couldn’t complete any marathon as a top finisher, after maybe a year of prep.. that’s silly. Essentially, the question I have is what speed can he extend out just past 42 km. Kipchoge is maintaining just under 3:00 min/km. Most likely, he is right near the theoretical limit, though some folks disagree with that too. I'd be curious when Kipchoge passes threshold in a marathon. The limit seems to be anaerobic, honestly. Where do they each cross over, and how much longer can Ingebrigsten maintain that pace if he crosses much earlier. I doubt Ingebrigsten is going to run a marathon the first time and cause a Zatopek-like upset, but you are looking at a similar paradigm shift in training happening. It started in middle distance but that doesn't mean it's limited to it.

He is a confirmed middle distance runner (can be insane from 1500m to 5000m and could also be insane in 10000m) and with the fact that he has insane speed and already train aerobic hard since young age he would be one step ahead for going up to distance running

I am not. But understand your rumination. Been following him and his family for years now. It is a very simple and down to earth family, and every one of the children that has chosen an athletic dicipline, have shown great talent, development and success on the way to adulthood. His big brother Henrik showed the way for Jacob, along with next in line Filip. The latter was in my mind the biggest talent in the family for a long time, but severe asthma, many injuries, and maybe a lack of that inner drive that Jacob has, made it a difficult path for him. Jacob is a phenomenal talent, but it is his mindset that make him who he is and his quest for excellence. He even booted his father as his trainer last year or so, because he wants to improve every singel day. Who else does that if your not laser focused and goal oriented. Lastly, his family and siblings are at least 10 members in total I believe. If Jacob had done anything shady at some point they all would know, and everybody in this world cant hold a secret, thats for damn sure. Just my 2 cents, be wel, SL
