About AVATAR:
On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.

    I feel like the medical personnel would realistically have been told about Jakes disability and that he might have had such a reaction to receiving his legs back again. That particular part of the scene though is perfect, its such a human and realistic reaction to getting your legs back, it almost a high for him, the ability to walk again is so subconscious to many of us that to be unable to do so is literally unimaginable. To then get it back after losing it even more so.

    Rewatching this movie makes me realize how much darker the humans are in the second movie. Like look at the compound, in the original they are actively growing the native plants and have a much more eco friendly architecture. In the second one the land is barren for hundreds of meters from the compound.

  • @tronam

    @tronam

    Жыл бұрын

    That’s because this is the avatar compound on the outer perimeter of Hell’s Gate and most of the people here are researchers and scientists. Also the circumstances are quite different. At the time of A1 Hell’s Gate was primarily a resource mining operation. In A2 the plan with Bridgehead is preparing for full blown colonization. But, even back before A1 the original goal of the Avatar program was to create more efficient mining/construction workers for the RDA which didn’t work out very well. It wasn’t until later that they decided to try using them for research and communication instead to better understand the Na’vi, flora/fauna, and hopefully prevent all out war.

And especially when Jake's paralyzed legs entered his avatar body, it was a much better feeling that he could run like before. I was very impressed with the first movie, but I didn't like the second movie very much because of the same scenario, the same cold war, I think it could have been a little different. Avatar 1 is the perfect movie that I won't stop watching. Even if the sequels come, they will never let the audience experience the old adrenaline. It's just going to be fun for the kids, that's all.

    @@lewiswood1693 It's really hard to say how many there were on either side. For starters, how many Avatar bodies were there? We don't know. But we do know that they had to be custom-grown for their operators on Earth. So I'd guess that most of them were scientists in biology and related fields - biologists studying lifeforms, xenologists studying Navi culture, ecologists (like Grace) studying the whole ecosystem and how it worked. The military types don't seem to have had Avatar bodies, the geologists and physicists studying unobtainium wouldn't need them, and neither would the miners and other resource extractors, or the administrators.

    I remember I wasn’t a fan of running because I usually became tired pretty quick. After 3 months of different workouts my father (ex-mountaineer) decided to run a little to see would I able to run after him plus he wanted to be little bit further from me. My brain just saw it and decided to give me the command “girl run” and I started running and surprisingly it was not so hard and I became so excited. Different case but I feel I experienced the joy which was kind of the same. You just feel that you can do it and nothing will stop you, and you become excited and curious how far your body can go.

    I think what would have made this scene more touching is if the nurse said to him, “You wanna try standing up?" And Jake says, “What do you mean? I'm crippled". And then it clicks that he's in a new body with working legs. He then tries to stand up, but because his brain/mind is too used to him being paralysed from the waist down, he struggles at first. However, as he starts to get the hang of it, that's when we get to the part where he becomes too excited and runs out of the building.

    That is way cheaper than what they went with. Say more with less. The key to any good movie making. Everything you just described can be contextualized by his range of emotions during a brief 10 second period of this scene where he wakes up, moves his hands, then his entire demeanor changes when he starts wiggling his toes, and his following reactions says everything the scene needs to say. Anything more with words would take away from the impact
