@@kingbertron420 yes! and when fictional characters have motivations and intentions that can be picked up on by the audience, that makes the characters, and as a result the story, more interesting! i know this is a lot to conceptualize, especially since it’s clear you’ve never seen people interact with media before, but i believe in you! hey- you figured out a character in an isolated scene from a high budget sitcom is not real, and that’s pretty impressive for someone that doesn’t know any of this :)

The guy had been a hero for Jake. He had respect for Holt at this time but didn't have him as a father figure. That was the guy he punched. This was a moment a lot of people go through. It's the death of who you wanted to be at the expense of some you're trying to be now and finding out they're not compatible. Jake realises that it's Holt that is the man he wants to be. Strong, compassionate, loyal.

during my teen years I wanted to be like my father... ... then I learned some things and saw how he treated people, and realized I dont want to be anything like him at all ever... about a year later, I found out that I wanted to be like my grandfather, he is a great man... he hasn't always been, he made more than his share of mistakes, but he learned from them and bettered himself and tried to not make the same mistakes twice, he is kind compassionate, but also extraordinarily blunt and will tell you what he thinks... Him saying you are being an idiot isn't him calling you an idiot or suggesting you are, it's a warning that you are acting like an idiot and to stop because he knows it isn't true but others might not... He used to comment at how much weight I had been gaining at the time, I always took it as jabs not realizing how he spoke and what he meant, I was raised in a mentally and emotionally manipulative house both parents did it, so it's really the only way I knew of communicating and thought everyone did it. When I realized how he communicated I realized I had been wrong about him for so long, and also realized that I wanted to change how I communicated to the same way because it was just so... easy and pleasant to how I had been taught.

Like, the show fresh of the boat for instance, I personally liked the show. I've seen a lot of people say it gives them a go back to your own country vibe rather than depicting what American life is for these people. Basically what they are saying is you don't have to only focus one thing when flushing out a character like a lot of shows do. I’m amazed that Jake wasn’t suspended for what he did, he wasn’t an on duty cop, but he still physically assaulted Brogan, and the provocation defence wouldn’t really help him, my guess is that Brogan was such a hard ass that he chose not to press charges because he’s simp like a wimp otherwise

This is my favorite Jake & Holt moment. I grew up a strict Christian and had horrible backward and ignorant views towards gay people. I am now an atheist, and I look back at those times with a lot of shame in my heart. It must feel really good to know that someone in the Police force would punch his own hero to protect their honor and defend his Homosexuality and to then not take credit for it. It is a huge difference from the bigotry Holt experienced when entering the force. You can see the pride on his face.

The problem is in order to do that, you'd have to ignore a lot of what the bible teaches. At which point, why follow the Bible at all. There is a very good reason why most homophobes are Christians.

I grew up in a strict, conservative Christian household as well. Shamefully I repeated their bigotry and words until I finally stopped lying to myself and trying to direct my anger and hate at others for no reason other than my own self hatred. I grew and became a better person. I stopped fighting the fact that I am a lesbian and I am Non-binary. Once I accepted myself it was eaiser to be kind and open to others. It's ok to grow from a bad place, it's ok to admit you were ignorant and mislead. You can't erase what you said or did,but you can learn from it and try your best to learn more each day. Remember we are all human beings, deserving ofove and being given a chance to be good. That includes you.

Holt has been persecuted for being black and openly gay his whole career by cops that Jake idolised. But Jake barely hesitated to punch the epitome of his idolisation, for Holt.

Homo might not be as bad as fag but it’s still a slur and still worth punching someone over, when used in that context. Besides, it’s not so much as what exactly he said, it’s the the fact he made it clear he didn’t respect Holt for being gay, and that’s why Jake punched him.
