Jake was the PERFECT replacement for Randy. He was able to pull off all of Randy with his own style and still kick ass with feel. He is SO underrated and was not given the respect he certainly earned. I think he was every bit as much a part of the amazing Ozzy years as Randy was. He held that torch up high man, and really made it his own while still respecting the fact that he replaced and filled the shoes of someone very special. IN the end, Jake E Lee is also a very special guitarist of our time and deserves alot more praise than he gets.

I still remember the summer day back in 1986 at the age of 12 when my brother woke me up. He brought in a boom box and told me to just listen, then he hit play and the tape began playing. It was this album and from the first note all the way to the last, I just sat up in bed listening. I became a metal fan and aspiring guitarist that very day. This album and Jake’s playing changed my life forever. I still get the goosebumps hearing anything off this album to this day. Such a powerful album.

Brought a tear to my eyes, so happy these songs are still inspiring players. Bark at the moon album came out when I was in High School and Ultimate Sin around 1986 they were so great. so many great memories. Missed seeing Randy play because of big uproar about Ozzy eating live animals on stage, local community was so dumb. Show was cancelled and Randy died a few months later. Still upset. Both Randy and Jake were incredible musicians.

@@BFahz The mostly American obsession with competition and being the "best" at anything is antiquated, boring and absurd. This is especially true when those who espouse their OPINION do so without reasons, details, or facts. Jake was damn good but Randy Rhoads was blessed with dazzling chops and an innate comprehension of music theory. His style had a perfect blend of flash and melodic structure. Flowing legato sections segued to impossibly fast, palm-muted picking passages; incendiary trills and daring chromatic maneuvers coexisted with classically influenced melodies - all of which were derived from a seemingly inexhaustible supply of scales and arpeggios and laid out across an ever-shifting rhythmic landscape. What’s more, Rhoads was so precise that he could seamlessly double-track anything for maximum sonic density. Sadly, only three recordings - Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman and Tribute - captured Rhoads’ genius. The musicianship within those tracks is as stunning and inspirational today as it was back then: www.guitarplayer.com/lessons/randy-rhoads-the-magical-techniques-of-the-wizard-of-ozz

The pinch harmonics are so clean and precise. Took me a long time of playing to be able to get them about anywhere that I wanted them, but they're just not that clean. I believe that hours and hours of practice is just not enough. There are some acrobatics that require precise timing and touch to pull them off perfectly. The touch is the part that you have or you don't. I had a friend who was just a natural freak. His progress was insane. He's been playing less than 18 months and he's getting a pretty solid handle on most of the Lynch solos from Tooth and Nail. I see him again in a month or so, and he's working on the Yngwie's Trilogy album, and it's coming along nicely. We were teens in the 80s. Graduated in 87. Was the greatest time to be a new guitar player.

Saw Jake live only once, he was fearlessly bending the neck like you wouldn't think possible. I still don't understand how it didn't break. I think Ozzy was just too fucked up to appreciate what was in front of him. And I think he was pissed, wrongful so, at Randy for not being there and Jake for being there even tho it wouldn't matter who it was cause it wasn't what Ozzy wanted which was Randy. Like we all compare the dead to whomever takes their place... I think that's natural but it's not right. I love Randy but I dig Jake more.... I like how Jake sometimes is nasty and in the slop while Randy was just fluid like SRV was before drugs.

I remember Sharon saying producer Ron Nevison messed up the production. It was a much heavier album but Nevison wanted more commercial appeal. Jake’s guitars are incredible on this album and his parts are quite heavy. The rest of the album doesn’t quite match his intensity. I believe that’s why Ozzy disliked it so.

On the BATM album, if you close your eyes, you can imagine Randy playing all of those solos. While Jake was unique, he knew how to capture Randy's essence at the same time. Brilliant job here playing too, mate! To me, Jake landed right in the sweet-spot between emotion, shred, space and hooks...Just like Randy did:) Jake played all of his solos like he wrote em. Not many could be diciplined enough to do so!

So many incredibly talent musicians came out of the '80s. I won't say who's the best because I don't believe there's a way to categorize that. But I think it's legitimate to offer up our favorites. For me, apart from the elder statesman who got their start in decades previous, the axlingers that emerged in the '80s that really got my attention included Warren DeMartini, Chris DeGarmo, and Jake E Lee. I might throw in Nuno betancourt as an honorable mention not so much for his songwriting but for his virtuosity. PS about George Lynch, I loved his sound, and the way he used his overdrive when he did his solos, but there is something about the way he structured his solos They just really put me off, I just didn't feel like he composed them the way I liked to hear them but I'll tell you what I loved the way his rig sounded.

Absolutely amazing! You nailed it completely, and showcased what made Jake unique: the perfect timing and phrasing, the unique note-stacking and sequencing he brought from his piano days, and the blistering speed and precision. Well done. I've been playing 40 years and that stuff is still waay out there for me.

Amazing work! This took me back to my teenage years when I was listening to this album daily. I’ve forgotten how great all those solos were. You sir were spot on as I could close my eyes and imagine Jake playing. My absolute favorite songs from the album were Shot In The Dark and Killer of Giants. It was the guitar tracks that made them my favorite. So melodic and tasteful. Thank you for making this video. Cheers!

I love JEL’s playing. Call him Mr. Clean of the fretboard and his vibrato work helped move players away from the Floyd Rose overload that was everywhere. We all owe him big for that alone. Total win because whammy bars sap the tone and sustain. Jake’s sound is what a great guitar sings when it’s got the best driver. You hear and see the benefits of playing that way and once it takes…….

Funny story, when this album landed I was in my final year of high school. I had an exam in the afternoon one day, and I had started to listen to 'Fool Like You'. Even though I knew I would be late for the exam, I had to listen to it again. It's just so catchy and so good!

I think Jake's guitar work on this album was so much better than on Bark at Moon to bad Ozzy hates the way this album was mixed. Great job on guitar bud.

Musically this may be Ozzy’s best solo record but damn did they drop the ball on the tone. Jake’s brilliant ideas “ultimately” surpass the sound but this could have been a serious opus for Ozzy if they had also done a better sounding record. Dude, you crushed this. Really got his vibrato down.

I will never understand how this album isn't bigger. I enjoy all of the Ozzy stuff regardless of whichever ridiculously gifted guitarist is on the album, but this is some of the best guitar work of any album by any guitarist of any band on any album and in most cases it isn't even close. Over the top and insane but perfect for the song. BATM is amazing, but this was the next step and they knocked it out of the park and it was kind of a let down commercially and none of the Ozzy fans talk about it.
