The Jake brake on 🎉American engines is a full valve brake, most Euro trucks just have an exhaust retarder, a full Jacbs brake is in my experience more effective.

Always excellent footage. What is the trailer set-up called at 0:29? We use a similar combination in Oz, but it is only used on semi tippers and is called a Stag combination (I have no idea why), is it called the same in NZ?

That definitely a strange looking trailer configuration. Standard B-Trains and Rigids with full trailers are more commonly used here in New Zealand.

Just a question..What’s the purpose of running them little wheels on the trailers & prime movers?

If NZ is like many countries then Its probably to maximize the cubic capacity of the truck within its legal length and height. Many trucks run out of capacity, not because of weight limits but because of the maximum cubic yards or meters of cargo that they can carry. Smaller trailer wheels (and occasionally tractor wheels) gives them just a bit more space. In some jurisdictions around the world having more axles with smaller wheels also brings significant vehicle taxation savings.

Watch NZ roads in coming years there’ll be more Scanias on the road than any thing else. Axle numbers are to distribute the weight better for many reasons but one I will point out is because the government doesn’t want so much weight on one spot of the road at the same time and wants it spread out over 23 meters … if that makes sense? Doesn’t make a difference our roads are already thrash with sink holes and potholes!

Yup, we definitely run conventional trucks here in New Zealand, cabovers are more commonly used, but we still have a few long-nose trucks as well.

It's because our roads are very narrow and bend alot. This setup is easy to maneuver on roads like these.

The Jake Brake (aka Jacobs Brake, common on US trucks) is not an exhaust brake. It is a shut down of diesel injection in some (or all) cylinders and since these are not producing power (by combustion) the moving mass of the truck let's the cylinders work like a compressor. This process builds up a resistance and slows down the truck. The (loud) sound you hear is the compressed air leaving the engine. The exhaust brake is similar but with an additional valve in the exhaust, which is controllable to regulate the brake effect (common on European trucks). I hope my explanation is correct.🙂
