If you thought Klaww had the same number of fingers in all versions of the game, you were wrong. Check this video to see the truth!

This is probably significant enough to ban an entire speedruning category isnt it?
My only theory on why they changed it was that they maybe wanted the three-fingered one to match the precursor robot arm that the lurkers zeppelin were trying to pull up from Boggy Swamp. Perhaps the implication was that Klaww was due an upgrade for his scrawny unarmoured arm once the Lurker zeppelin was successful?

I *was* gonna say that they probably initially changed it in the PAL region because it's considered offensive for characters to have four fingers because a lot of people working industrial jobs get injured and lose fingers... but then i did some research and found out Japan got NTSC games . _. (EDIT) maybe was easier to localize a PAL game to NTSC-J than NTSC to NTSC-J so they made the change earlier for convenience sake?

You can see that it was just simply changed after the initial version was sent for manufacturing, the wording implies they wanted this change in all releases. This is not a regional difference.

In an unused cutscene the main villains, Gol and Maia, talk about letting Klaww take care of Jak and daxter in rock village while mentioning it being risky.. Klawws armor looks like an incomplete set of precursor armor to me. One could speculate that Klaww is a failed attempt of theirs to control Precursor technology for their ultimate goal to reshape the world. They might have fed a lurker a ton of dark eco to make it grow in size so it could use the armor. The lurker grew so much in strength that they lost control of him and they now use him as a berserker weapon instead. This is just me speculating though hehe :)
I can't believe no one noticed until now lmao
My guess would be that this change had something to do with 4 fingers being considered offensive in Japan. I seem to recall there was a pretty big push for Jak 1 in Japan, likely trying to recapture the success Crash Bandicoot enjoyed there.

@@LuminarLight a possible reason I've read on for characters having to have 5 digits in Japan is because a Japanese mafia there is known to remove a finger from those who have wronged them. Characters like Rayman and Crash Bandicoot have had this happen to them in Rayman GBC and even recently in Crash 4.

The PS3 port team had access to all source code and assets. PS3 port PAL/NTSC are not different from each other. Technically, the Klaww with 3 fingers is the newest version of Klaww. So based on what you are saying, I think that they used an earlier version of Klaww than they should have used. You can observe this with many other things actually: *Palace Cable platform texture *Rock Village boulder texture *Jak II skull gem icon in main menu And more that I can not remember now... Thank you for telling me. I never checked this in PS3 version for some reason.

Hey I was wondering if you know about this glitch in jak 2? I stumbled upon a glitched/cut version of the mission “protect hideout from bombots” it featured 4 bombots, also had a on screen bombot sprite with a counter bellow it counting down from 4 for every bombot destroyed. My memory is a bit fuzzy sine this was about 2 years ago, I Still have the save file, unfortunately I saved after doing the mission in question. I went through several of the security gates several times before you were supposed to using the hover glitch, which I suspect had something to do with triggering it. Even weirder is it occurred before the normal “protect hideout from bombots” After playing the previously mentioned alternate version, the correct version of “protect hideout from bombots” was playable either immediately after, or after another mission or two. (I think you had to progress through 2 prior missions before reaching the normal version) I played the greatest hits version, on the last gen slim if that matters.

@Dirty_Bear22

@@LuminarLight I played a slightly different version of the bombot mission. The total bots to destroy was 4. There was a bombot HUD icon displaying how many bots are remaining. The mission normally has 3 bombots to destroy and no HUD icon… A few missions add a HUD indicator for example: “Blow up strip mine eco wells” has a HUD icon displaying how many bombs are remaining. Unfortunately thus far I have no real presentable evidence. The bombot HUD icon should be an image somewhere in the game files, but my amateur attempt at looking around was ultimately fruitless. Sorry about double posting, didn’t know where it would be more relevant, my bad. I deleted the other comment.
