Wen u havnever experienced a life under the influence of bad others it's difficult to understand how things were and howr they now. As long asthose that havewro ged u r alive then payback s possible even if the wronged party s dead.

This is heartbreaking . A man who was freed at last and his life taken tragically. So sad..no one can foresee the future. Rip Andrew.

Bring imprisoned when innocent is the most horrible feeling. You feel your life has been taken from you and all faith in the system vanishes immediately.

Sadly, there are many Andrews still in our prisons and the tragedy is they get longer sentences for not admitting to their guilt, as if our legal system is infallible when clearly it is not. Many are not as fortunate as ANdrew to have so many good people in their court. The real hero's in these situations, those that for selfless reasons give up so much of their time and effort to see justice corrected. The villains are those that cover up facts in order to get a conviction at any cost, using people's lives as career spring boards, as well as the judges in our court system that fight to ensure convictions do not get overturned because they believe sacrificing one persons life is better than having the flaws in our legal system exposed. Shameful.

There's two cases like this in Scotland one still in prison Luke Mitchell, life in prison for killing his girlfriend at 14 His case is on yt and John simmson 20 years in prison then found innocent with DNA, also watch trail and error the ice cream wars it's amazing how low the police can go and poor tc Campbell has sadly passed away after a wrongful conviction for killing a family of six !

I have friends who are police officers and they would never do something like this yet I wouldn't trust some of their friends as far as I could throw them. When I was working with satanic abused victims the cop told me there were no missing children in Canada. There's no winning or progress with a crooked cop. I couldnt agree more. And the prosecutor too, absolutely. They should be accountable for their actions in every case, so this railroading scheme ends. Just as we, regular people, are accountable when we seriously harm others, even by accident. And this was no accident, they did this very consciously and with regard, it seems. These guys didnt harm only Andrew, but Pamelas family too, the real killer stayed on the street, justice wasnt served. And he was able to murder his gf too, so even more victims for this bunch. Something needs to change, so these things cant happen so often. I just watched “Blood on the tracks” about Mark Haines from this same channel, corrupt cops too, very similar case, only theres no innocent in prison. How can police and lawyer be the only occupations where youre not liable for the work you have done? It seems to be global issue. Pretty puzzling when you really think about it.

I agree 100% Corrupt, lieing Police and CPS should face charges for this kind of disgusting perjury.... There'd be less miscarriages of justice, if lieing law enforcement could be held responsible for their fitting people up?

This guy was just lucky that some high profile experienced people came across his case & took notice to start with. So many people are in the same boat but quite simply no one takes notice. Sadly the vast majority of the population believe that if you have been found guilty it's case closed & many believe that if you have been arrested & put on Trial then you must be guilty as the Police wouldn't arrest an innocent person. Police & Officials, Judges, Prosecutors etc should be held to a higher standard of accountability than the average person & anyone caught knowingly breaking the law by withholding/manipulating evidence or coercing false statements should face serious repercussions. ie: Jail time + loss of position + made to publicly apologise & pay damages to any victims. Who knows, it may even serve as a deterrent! Instead basically nothing happens (different story if average person knowingly lies in Court), & if they are found out usually it's Conveniently when they have or are about to retire! The whole system should be regularly reviewed & monitored by a completely independent outside organisation also.

What a beautiful, gentle man. I guess his spirit accomplished what he came here to do.

I read he passed away in April 2019 when he was hit by a car. Makes me wonder if this “accident” that took his life was an accident or intentional! Also, I hope his family sues the heck out of the police dept and everyone else involved in setting him up for prison! Prayers from California to Andrew, his family & friends. 🙏🏼

I didn't know Andrew's story, so by the 20 minute mark I was wondering what new development was about to be revealed. Then, just before it became apparent, it became apparent, if you know what I mean. Sucks. RIP Andrew. RIP Pamela. Love to those who love them.

100%, cops who mishandle cases this blatantly should be held responsible, and serve jail time. MAYBE, just maybe, that will dissuade such blatant disregard of human rights and reason.

No, this isn't the correct response. This kind of block-headed, blinkered attitude is the same as that condemns an innocent and makes us forget all about them. There is no denying that wrongful convictions, especially for murder, are a grave injustice. They strip good people of their freedom and let the guilty roam free, oftentimes to murder again. It's unconscionable. But that does _not_ mean we should tar all police officers or police services with the same brush. Imagine, if you can, what life would be like if everyone decided to adopt your attitude to the police. That kind of adversarial, 'people vs pigs' mentality is fatuous nonsense.

Nx Doyle Andrew confessed under peer pressure, so if he never confessed even if the cops said “ oh if you confess we will let you off” this never would have happened, and I wouldn’t be wasting my life on an assignment🤣

Starting every case with an open mind & building a case on hard, irrefutable evidence! Gosh.....what sort of Society could wish for such a thing! In all seriousness I do understand what you're saying however when it comes to someone being questioned as a Suspect (not Witness) then they should Always have Legal Representation! No question. No doubt that the Good outweighs the Bad when it comes to most Police forces but even 1 innocent person being pressured/coerced into a false confession/statement is too many & sadly it's not completely unheard of. We only get to hear about the more high profile cases which have gone past the point of being silenced as it's not something they like to be disclosed. No Comment protects the Innocent! Not the Guilty!

Rip so sad ! How cruel this world can be. !

The fact that 2 women were murdered within 7 weeks of each other yielding identical injuries, then police & the coroner MISSED IT !!

Must be awful, the police should be sued, and jailed.

The daughter is wonderful about how he was treated by the system and failing to find the murderer of her mother first time round.

Unbelievable. I can learn something here. If I ever be questioned/ detained by police: I say nothing. Sign nothing. No one would twist my words against me.

also now if you choose not to say anything when you are detained by police this can no longer be held against you. This is now (supposed to be) incorporated into a persons miranda/bill of rights. Dont even say no comment because those two words can be used against you at a later date, it also winds up & infuriates the most placid of police officers. I've also learned from watching these programs that you do not take up any invitation by police to come to the station for an interview, conversation, witness account, to verify or confirm certain details or just for a friendly chat. if they had any actual evidence that you committed a crime they will go look/search for you the minute the warrant/arrest sheet is drawn up. They will arrest you on the spot where they find you they don't need to send out invitations. Far too many people make their job far too easy & end up talking themselves in to a crime they didn't commit. Unfortunately some people aren't as clued up as others & don't believe police officers are capable of been untrustworthy or dishonest because at one time they were considered to be the most honest & caring people in society alongside priests & God fearing folks. I've never understood how Police/LE are allowed to lie through their teeth while interrogating or interviewing a suspect/witness, this fact alone should make a person be wary of accepting a police officers invitation to their station. The first thing a person asks the police is 'do I need a solicitor/attorney or parent to come with me for an interview' the first thing they tell you is 1) no, you are not under arrest 2) you are not a suspect but more often when a person asks for an attorney/solicitor in a true crime program the police always say the person must be guilty or is hiding or knows something!

I've seen too many cases like this. If ever you're questioned about a crime and you have a water tight alibi tell the police, if not tell them nothing and contact a lawyer.

There is never a good reason to not contact a lawyer if questioned. Anything you say will only harm you. I would much rather look guilty for contacting a lawyer than be convicted of something I didn't do.

The criminals are the police and prosecutor. They need to go to prison.

I thought the American system and police was incompetent...But I'm shocked at the Australian policing...It's rediculous....It's as currupt system as the American's...

Why are the comments turned off on the rest of ABC's KZread videos? You'd think as publicly owned media they'd be interested in engaging the public. A once great broadcaster falling to pieces after making what has seemed like an endless string of bad choices.

Any deliberate manipulation of evidence by police should carry an automatic jail sentence.

I sat on a jury once (man being tried for armed robbery) and learned so much about people. Scary how easily things can go wrong.

I was in casuarina prison unit 3 with him and the poor bloke was treated real bad by prisoners and the screws im glad he was finally released God bless him.

The general public finally get to see how the police railroad innocent people and fit evidence to their theories to attain convictions. This type of shoddy judgemental policework is more typical than not. I have experienced bad treatment by the police ... ALWAYS get a lawyer involved. Always ... always.

That was really sad, he was definitely dealt a bad hand. Hopefully he now finally rests in peace x

Law enforcement often pin wrongful crimes on vulnerable people with no support, they thought he was one of them, gratefully they were wrong, his family was always there for him!

It's why once they put you in that room. Innocent or guilty do not say a word no matter what. The team don't take you to that room for nothing. There minds are already made up.

The cops etc are the authority. How can u hav faith n them after an ex experience as he had. The is mentally devastatingly.

When I started watching Australian true crime shows I told my friends that their police differed in two significant ways from police in the US: 1. they kept an open mind about who had done the crime and 2. they never gave up hope for solving a cold case. I am sorry to say that #1 was shattered tonight. A homeless man who is mentally ill was horribly discriminated against. Pain and suffering were compounded, all in the service of three people's egos. It reminds me of Giuliani here in the states, who at one point said he had a good theory, but no evidence. To Andrew's and Pamela's families, please know there are many of us who hold you in our hearts and hope for your healing.

Prosecutors never want to admit (even when there is incontrovertible new evidence) that they’re wrong. He deserved every penny of that compensation.

What I really want to know is whether or not our injustice system failed him as well. What happened to the case of the hit and run driver? Have the police made any genuine attempts to find the person that killed him, or are they still free to kill again? 🤔

Crazy and infuriating to see one got put in jail with no proof for something they did not do, and the other get released after just 30 days while the crime is on CCTV?! I will never understand how justice works

Money doesn't make you happy, no but they do make life easier. It's tragic what he experienced, his soul couldn't get over it, maybe some stopped his life for getting more tragic, marrying a unknown from US, could have been devastating, as we all know, limelight attracts the worst in people

I wish all these episodes a person would be able to comment on. The more recent ones you can't. The police are a lazy bunch for sure. I feel for BOTH of these families. Andrew seemed like a troubled person. That doesn't mean that he is a killer. Rest in Peace Brother !!!

How can people watch that interview and think it was legal or fair. Its obviously led and police were framing him. Its soooo clear.

Andrew was a stoner . If you watch the original interview , it's plain to see he is being steered and some questions put to him are disguised as being hypothetical After he answered thinking his great mind was helping to solve a crime , the cops twisted the hypothetical into an admission of guilt .

John Quigley is a champion. Andrew Mallard was a tragic victim of the win at all cost legal system and the police / prosecutor puddings in it. Sad story.

This was a very sad story for this man who was innocent but pursued fiersly by police. But then struck down on a street in America to die

The Police should still be able to be charged. Why should they be able to gain the past 12yrs living a lie, that’s Intentional Criminal Fraud & the real killer never had to face the murder cos he took the easy way out n killed himself in Prison An apology to Andrew and family is practically an insult, he should be given a Home to Own & a family to share that with

Interviewing someone in such a vulnerable emotional state, where that person is incapable of defending themselves from coppers questions, it's like interviewing a drunk person, you're Not getting a clear story, because they're incapable, The cops were totally inept, & unprofessional!

I echo the comments below; the police who framed Mr. Mallard should be prosecuted! Why have they not been? After viewing dozens of these cases my faith in the police is now zero. After seeing the inaccurate presentation of evidence against an acquaintance of mine in court I have little confidence in the legal and judicial systems in Australia.
