Jailbar Thunderbolt 1000AT Siren Test | Alert | Wichita, KS (7/12/21)

The opportunity presented itself in that I could hit a Wichita siren on my way up to Kansas City, and I didn't hesitate at all to take it. Needless to say conditions couldn't have been more favorable; there was no wind and no clouds. I ended up not having a tripod for this test, but I think I did pretty well just setting it on top of a car. This definitely was a really fun experience, and was totally worth waking up at 4:45 for.
This particular unit was installed as part of Wichita's first batch of sirens in 1953, and features a jailbar horn. The chopper was swapped sometime more recently. The head of the unit was fully refurbished in June 2021 by Goddard Enterprises. Not sure why they didn't correct the wiring, but it made the 6M's pulsy-ness really apparent.
Sedgwick County Kansas tests their sirens on Mondays at Noon, weather permitting.

Once the reverse blower gets fixed, it will be back at its former glory and sound amazing. Jailbars are monsters.

For certain. It still was insanely loud even with the reversed blower, just didn't have the punch like 6Ms should.

It has no air leak; it's just reverse wired. The air leak that was there was due to how the horn was mounted, which was fixed by Goddard.

Truly biblical. Amazing video of an amazing bolt.
Now we know that the original blower for this is on T-75.
*Update* This one T-116 has been refurbished and Installed as of 11/16/22 still awaiting electrical hook up.

The chopper on this unit was dual tone for many years before this refurbishment also it was made in 1952 So its not 1953 although could be installed in 1953 Anyway thanks for uptdated recording as it DIDnt get one for 9 years lol

I said it was *installed* in 1953. I am well aware the unit is from 1952. By more recently I also was simply implying it was after installation, not sure when it was though.

Me neither it was already dual tone when it was first recorded in 2007 also im glax they fixed a leaky pipe now they Just need to wire it correctly Also great video

The main issue was the head mount, and that was fixed. I'm sure they'll correct the wiring if I let them know about it.

Eh, not fully. It’s missing the stripes… WHICH THEY ARE GOING TO DO WHEN THEY REFURBISH ALL THEIR JAILBARS IN 2023!!!

This siren was replaced with a 2001-130 a few days ago. Unknown if the siren still stands or not as of right now. It will be removed in the near future to go under a full rebuild and restoration Edit: Siren was removed, see more details in the reply posted below

@@DeadChan67 There was no such thing as dual tone in 1953. 4/5 port choppers came into existence in 1954 with the removal of the jailbar. The earliest known 5/6s are from 1960. That being said, this siren's chopper is not original. It was swapped at some point in favor of a 5/6.
This siren is now inactive and is awaiting removal. UPDATE: this is now gone.

ATIs in Wichita is soon to be a thing of the past, all of them will eventually be replaced with likely 130s. Their current system besides that is likely going nowhere.
