Jaguar XJ6 Series 2 LWB Destine for the wreckers.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Well I couldn't resist it, after looking at this old girl a couple of weeks ago and missing out on the black series 1, I thought why not? But she needs some lovin!. Was it worth the $500 bucks? Stay tuned!

We ran an early SWB S2 for 30 years & despite people knocking them as the least desirable XJ6 ours never let us down & was apleasure to drive. It was built in May 1974 so was basically S1 running gear & engine. It was Turquoise which was a S1 & very early S2 colour.

Fascinating! I love it when you buy a new car and take it home for the first time to find out all about it. I’m sure you’ll have this old girl in good working order very soon. Really enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing the journey with us.😊

One of the most enjoyable TJM vids I've seen. You bought a wreck but have done so much with it in such a short space of time. I had a very good feel about this car from the start - 500 bucks is a bargain for the parts alone. And, like you, I love that signal red. Really looking forward to the outcome of this project.

Great video, but I think the rusty arches are the reason for the spats rather than the other way round. Gorgeous, timeless cars.

You're right not all that rust was caused by the spats! I guess they have been on there for 20 years so a lot was because of them!

Well done saving her, she deserves to roll again ! Assuming no horrors to uncover I'd like to see your spare fuel tanks go in her just to give them a good home along with any other bits and pieces from your hoard ! Are the wheels really chromed ? Nice that the spare is an S1 rim ! Oh yes and can we please see the bonnet leaper follow the chrome arch trims into the bin ?

Omg a series II, I loved them the last of the classic bumpers. I have "re-keyed" all barrels on one to fit new key when original lost. If that was ever serviced at Pymble Prestige, Ron Hodgson or Rowleys I may have worked on it. Please give it a new life.

Great fault finding techniques, all very useful for us amateurs. I hope these cars eventually get recognition as a true classic, they are streets better than the Ford and Holden cars commanding $50k or more nowadays. How do I know? I changed from a HQ GTS Monaro to a V12 Series 1 and never looked back.

LOL Brett.. you know the IFS/IRS combined is worth at least a grand, the shell a couple hundred at the recyclers, 30 or 40 bucks for the silly 'dog' on the bonnet.. got to be a bob or two for the donk, the Res. tank.... that's a good profit rerturn to tell Wifey and you get to keep the wheels that attracted you. Got to concur.. those Tramp Tatts / chrome spats.. bloody awfull... stay safe on the Enduro ride ( H. has replaced his drowned 660 Yamaha with a 790 KTM, lovely bit of kit)

Five hundred! That was cheaper than fish and chips here in England! OK, an exaggeration, but that was a great buy young man well done. I would have jumped at that car over here. Take off the ignition and put a new/replacement one on. Chrome spats cheapen the car in my opinion, good move taking them off. The submerged fuel pumps I reckon will be knackered. The floors look good, they usually suffer rot because the windscreen rubbers perish and water gets in through rot holes. UK weather and salt kills ALL cars eventually. Well worth saving that XJ6, I have seen and owned much worse!

an astute purchase. Potentially you could sell each grill for around $150-200, that lovely dashboard for $400-600, so then you would have a 'free car'! Ignore the nay sayers!

The Red looks better. Almost bought a 5.3 Litre LHD during the mid '90s. IT wore foreign reg. plates so, had to be custom cleared. Unfortunatelly, by then the customs changed the car import law and allow only the used import catalyst cars. That 5.3 had not have catalizers. Had to have two! I gave up then. Some 17 years later an XJ40 RHD came into the garage. Anyway, It's a genuine classic Jaguar! Let's say, the Last one...

G’day Brett. Instead of music during washing the car, how about some dulcet voice over. Some folks find washing cars boring so some voice over about the car or other interesting Jag related info could work.

Hi Brett, there is a 1974 Jaguar XJ 6L in the junkyard near where I live in Michigan. It is a complete car (at least it was when I saw it this morning). Anything you need off of it that is easy to remove? I can send pictures if you like. They don't keep cars very long. Cheers, Doug

Sorry to tell you but those wheels do not look like chrome scallops - from the vid anyway - they look as if they are the silver painted version though the drivers rear does look chromed. I had some painted scallops chromed in Botany many years ago and was quite cheap but I guess not cheap any longer. I would have gone with the red car over the black car and for $500 I actually think you have done well. 👍

Yes, it looks like that in the video, but they are definitely Chrome. I have already polished a couple of the up. However, they are not all that good of condition . Steel ones are slightly different. They have a different cut.
