Just taken charge of 6litre V12 for my Ronart race car. It had 120,000 miles under its ‘belt’. Stripped the engine completely, not a blemish on the internal components, even the bores still had honing marks from the factory, piston rings within spec. This is a staggeringly well engineered power plant, beautifully designed and British and going into Ronart English designed 50’s style race car. Thanks for posting...most interesting.

Also, let's not forget the 4.0 straight 6 engine introduced in 1994 for the new X300 model. I currently use on of these Jags as a daily driver, and I am pushing almost 300,000 miles on the original engine. The engine has been driven with Castrol 10/30 only. Great engine craftsmanship. Proud to own a piece of Jaguar history.

@@toucan221 Thank you Toucan221. These engines are work horses if you drive them daily. I choose to drive my Jaguar every day for the last 15 years, logging hundreds of thousands of miles every week. The car performs strongly and I am determined to keep driving it with it original components. That will show how well these Jags were built, often putting modern cars to shame. If you find a low or high mileage Jag from the X300 era, get it. This car will not let you down. Just learn the basics of it's mechanics and you will have a dependable daily driver classic that will look cool even after 30 years on the road. I will keep driving the Jaguar cars, I have no regrets owning one. Great craftsmanship from the UK, from USA with respect.

@@djonfonsteen6331 I am glad that you appreciate your Jaguar. Keep driving the car as often as you can to keep engine, transmission, and differential healthy. Also, remember to turn on the AC compressor at least once a month to keep that R134 fresh throughout the System and extend the life of the Denso compressor, if you still drive with the original one. As for engine oil, keep up with Castrol Titanium, formerly Syntec if available in your home state/country. These engines were tested and designed with that oil. I have been driving with 10/30 for 14 years now, great results and healthy engine. Let me know when you clock 200,000 miles on your engine.

@@Cloud75770 thank you so much 👍 It's appreciated. I'm in Manchester, England (The Jaaag hates the weather). Its is in daily use now. Im sure it was sat for a while though, which is why its quite low mileage. I would like to change the bushes, as there's knocking at the front off side suspension. And, an intermittent squeaky rattling at the rear!? In the morning its not really there, after driving for a while the rattle becomes more noticeable!? Any ideas? Its had an engine service a few week ago. Gearbox and diff oil next. Also, my neighbours are having work done at the rear of their property. Unfortunately, last Friday, my baby was scratched by a guy using a wheelbarrow full of concrete. My other neighbours knocked on to show me the damage. As witness, thank god. I'm still assuming this will be a pantomime of "yes you did".. "no I didn't" type scinario. 😢😲🤺

Thanks for posting this video! I own a 1994 XJS V12 convertible. It’s the most exciting car I’ve ever owned. That 6.0 liter V12 is magical! Jaguar outdid themselves with the design/engineering of that engine. I’ve owned my car for a dozen years, but never saw this video....thanks again for sharing it!

JogAlong The engine survives because it’s solid, the same can’t be said about the peripherals though. Look after the engine, service regularly and they’ll keep going. Mine is now 41 years old and still going strong.

@You Tube Ford sold Jaguar only because the US financial markets collapsed and it needed cash to survive. I live in LA and have a XJ-S V12 that has never overheated on me. Jag's V12 won 24 hours of Le Mans twice, completing 394 laps in 1988, a distance that has been surpassed only twice in the last 32 years. And you say it's not an endurance engine? Sure, pal.

@You Tube Same basic block, still a Jag V12. It's definitely detuned. My 1989 has 72M, swapped out the GM TH-400 3-speed automatic, dropped in a Getrag 265 5-speed manual. It's getting there.

@You Tube I think the 290 was used in the "facelift" models starting in or after 1992. Slightiy different set-up, I think. Ford changed the small bits of the powertrain with the facelift while keeping the basic 5.3L block, then changed the stroke to make it 6.0L, I believe. The 265 was never paired with a V12 on the production line, it went with the L6, but there is something about its compatibility with the earlier V12. I think the later V12s may mate better with the 290, but not sure.

@You Tube I don't think the XJ-S will ever be Singer-ized. It would take way too much money and there is no inherent market value like with the 911. The XJ-S is cheap and can be fixed up, just don't expect a return on investment.

  • @DanielJett

@@omarks Lucas, was heavily involved in supplying electrical components for Jaguar, especially during the era when Jaguar's V12 engines were in production, like in the E-Type, XJ12, and XJS models from the 1970s through the early 1990s. For Jaguar's V12 engines specifically, Lucas provided several key electronic components: Ignition Systems: Lucas was known for their ignition systems, including distributors and ignition coils, which were crucial for the V12's performance. Fuel Injection Systems: In some V12 models, particularly those post-1975, Lucas supplied the electronic fuel injection (EFI) systems. This system was a shift from the earlier carbureted systems and was significant in improving the efficiency and performance of the engine. Alternators and Starters: These are essential for the vehicle's electrical system, powering everything from the lighting to the ignition system when the engine is running and starting the engine itself.

@@bossadave I have a 1996 (last year of production) 6.0 xj12. The wiring/electronics are either Ford or Densu. The previous generations of Jags had some Lucas wiring and components but this is often overstated. Jag really cut back on wire quality in the 70s and that badly hurt electrical reliability. Going back to the 60's there were a few dodgy lucas parts on the saloons and the XKE (I have both) but it was the 70's that really hurt Jaguar's reputation due to lousy British Leyland build quality and control.

I would've loved to have taken all the emission crap off my old V-12 and take the displacement up on the block, raise the compression and put downdrafts on it... You can make these things ridiculously big inside. With plates they've taken the displacement up to 9 liters for replica Spitfire fighter planes. Imagine having that under your hood! Jags first V-12 came out right before the oil embargo hit. Jag had to detune it for emissions and mpg bullshit. Just bad timing. The engine had such huge potential.

Dad ? Can I ask you a question ? Yes Son. Go ahead : Dad , Why is is that everything we buy in the shops is made in another country, the food products in the supermarkets, the bicycles and accessories, the motor bikes, and cars, and even the Royal Navy ships and the guns and tanks, and personnel carriers of our armed forces, the airliners, and the trucks and vans , and even my pencil and paper at school is made somewhere else, it is because we the English are too stupid to learn how to make things Dad ? No Son, It's because we we voted for people that smile at the cameras, and tell lies to us. Dad? Yes Son : Shall I put the facemask on the dog before I take him for a walk ?

Same as today... the economics of slavery? The media and it's corporate masters decided cheap international labour was the way forward.. all thanks to UK slaves demanding higher wages which we deserved. It's no surprise then our parasitic creatures in power move to India.. Singapore Pakistan, Taiwan etc etc.. oh by the way, when we got our pay rise, we were then taxed to death with fuel and power. They then took our brown enveloped wages off us and we now have to ask if we want more than 300 pounds a day!!

British cars were decent in the 50s especially the 120xk Jaguars but over the next 30,to 40 years, rubbish takovers, strikes, lack of investment had a big impact on quality of the cars. There were British Fords that were ok until a couple of years later then they were crap.
