Never understood the lack of a turret. Severely limits the ambush site.

With this vehicle and the Stug IIIs, the desire to mount a bigger gun than the turrets could handle, recoil wise, led to mounting the guns in the hull. Also, way cheaper to make, meaning more can be fielded. Stugs were widest production German tank and scored more kills than any other German tank. Jagdpanther came too late in the war, but would have been just as successful.

Da kann man von Glück sagen, daß man nicht gegen sowas kämpfen muß. Schon wenn man den Motor hört, wird einem ganz anders.
