I’m glad you covered this. I actually enjoy reading left/postmodern authors. I’m never sufficiently convinced by any of it to change my ideological perspectives - in fact quite the opposite. I liken it to intellectual sparring. It’s a good workout.

wow. i didn’t realize derrida was interesting. i always brushed him off because of his obscene lifestyle.

Derrida seems to see language as an entity that defines us because it possesses us. However, if so, then language would never advance into new forms. Slang, for example, is the rejection of one's given language as fixed and obligatory for us. It is one of the problems that I have with AI and its grammar applications. It is telling us that language is fixed. So, while I appreciate Derrida's point, I don't believe the world is as pristine as he seems to think it should be.

Here on YT, look up documentaries on French colonization of Algeria. That was brutal. Also look up the War for Algerian Independence. Brutal. You will learn a great deal about maps, calendars and French colonizers. Well worth the time.

@@SacClass650 Camus's "The Stranger." More philosophy from French Algerians. The title is badly translated. "The Foreigner" is a better translation. "Philosophy is properly home-sickness; the wish to be everywhere at home." - Novalis. Great quote, huh? Going way back to Diogenes and Cynic Philosophers, the famous "Gymnasium of the White Dog" was a gym in Athens reserved for foreigners. Cynics were the original Cosmopolitans..Surprised? No, not at all.

Definitely worthwhile to read about Abd el-Kader.

Certainly, the pain of (inalienable) alienation in language can be amplified or worsened by bastardization of one’s mother tongue, yes? Every mirror introduces a discordance, but some mirrors are more discordant than others. But perhaps he is saying as much. Anyway, interesting video that I’m about to share with others.

Imagine whatever you want if it helps you to grasp his reflections on the nature of language -- or don't. Who cares! This channel is for people who are interested in the questions. It is not for people who are not interested in the questions. I used the example Derrida himself gives: French Jew in Algeria. You can use whatever example is meaningful to you, like your own.
