Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responds to a fire at a landfill that goes 2nd alarm

JFRD responded to a fire at a landfill. With heavy winds and dry conditions, a second alarm was called as this became a very manpower intensive battle.
There were no structures involved, and no lives in imminent danger, but this fire had to be dealt with. Multiple engines were needed along with ladder crews to put their ladder pipe to work.
Because there were no hydrants nearby, ponds were used to draft from, and a relay pump system was put in place to supply the ladder and engines.
These are not the glamorous fires to work, but necessary just the same.

    Know what those kinds of fire are like, when I was a volunteer We had a underground fire at our landfill it's been burning for years. Every once in a while the fire would brake out and we'd have to go put it out until next time. Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.

    Fantastic footage. That was a hard fire 🔥 to put out. You never know how deep the fire goes,and that dozer driver did an excellent job of moving the burning trash,so that the firefighters could get water on it right away. I hope that there were no injuries during the fire. Have a great day my friends, and stay safe ❤️🙂⚘️🚒.

    Question... I have been wondering what the various loud beeps are (not the reverse beep beep - I know that one). I thought for a while it was air tanks getting low warnings. But, I didn't see them in use when the beeps started here. Is that a line charging? But, I have seen other fire depts charging lines when no beeps were heard.

    The obnoxious ring is the firefighters Pass device, it goes off if a firefighter stops moving. Once the firefighter moves it stops.

  • @thejfrd2490

    @thejfrd2490

    2 ай бұрын

    The beeping you hear is our PASS devices...they are a safety issue on our air packs in case a firefighter goes down, they can be located quicker by sound...at a fire like this, you stand around a lot and the devices are activated by the non movement. Each firefighter should be more aware of what is going on, but in these situations they are kind of a pain... on the other hand...if you hear a steady bell ringing, that is our low air alarm notifying you that it is time to start getting out of the toxic smoke as your clean air is running low.
