Jackson Browne | Live Interview & A Human Touch with Leslie Mendelson | @ Reeperbahn Festival 2020

Музыка

Exclusive interview and performance with US singer-songwriter Jackson Browne at the Reeperbahn Festival 2020.
The US singer-songwriter Jackson Browne took part at Reeperbahn Festival DOORS OPEN, the opening event of the Reeperbahn Festival 2020 with an exclusive digital interview. Browne, who was unable to start his European tour as originally planned and who himself got infected with Covid-19 in March 2020, held the exclusive talk with presenter Jörg Thadeusz from his home town Los Angeles. The musical legend talks about, among other things, how the songs in his new album relate to his personal experiences and his commitment to musical education, the environment and human rights.
The interview is followed by a live performance of the song "A Human Touch", which the interview also refers due to for current reasons. "A Human Touch" was written by Steve McEwan, Jackson Browne and Leslie Mendelson for the Paul Haggis documentary '5B'. The documentary film '5B' is a powerful story about the nurses and doctors that revolutionized AIDS care during the 80's.

I have been in awe of his "Downhill from Everywhere" and his previous "Before the Deluge". He is such an insightful human being. I am much more capable of taking these words to heart than I ever will be able to sing as beautifully as he does.He makes me feel that my 70 years have not been lived alone with these feelings.

Jackson is an exceptional human being as well as a consummate artist . I’ m 82 years old and just recently started tuning in to his music ( so much lost time for me ) I think because I was a track and field athlete in high school and our coach’s name was Jackson Brown and thus for some ignorant reason didn’t tune into this fine, fine artist . Now that I’m older I really appreciate all the marvelous elements of who he is , what his music sounds like and says , and I see what a thoughtful, sensitive and humane being he is . Maybe for me , it’s better that I tuned in so late ; I think being older and somewhat wiser I’m better able to appreciate his wonderful contributions to our cultural life . Keep on keein’ on, Jackson ; I’m a fan now and hope to catch you in a concert or two once we are able to manage this horrible plague. George Lewis, Sr.

I share your sentiment on JB. I saw him perform in Orlando FL back in 82/83. Then he came up to Vancouver, BC and joined with James Taylor on a tour. It was so awesome. Our older generation and like having the guys in a huge living room enjoying ALL the musicians play and shine in their talents. So I got a hold of CDs in Bellingham and Vancouver to get updated on his repertoire. I fell in love with his exceptional songwriting and melodies. I'm still trying to find about 5 more of his CDs. My preference is tactile, old school rather than renting it from companies. Being older I appreciate everyday of life and the seasons colors artistic things that are open through imagination. I would love to meet JB and share how his music brought me to a brighter place.

Everybody loves Jackson Brown, his music and his message, as I do. He offers his wisdom and insights through his songs. He is too humble to ask directly, but but he practically begs us to ACT to make the world a better place. Don’t just be a fan, use whatever talent you have to put into action what you learn from his songs. Vote, donate, organize, join a campaign, circulate a petition. invite your friends and family to do the same. Support a group that advocates for the environment, disabled rights, child protection, racial justice etc. There are uncountable groups deserving of your support - pick one and give them money, your time, your talent, whatever you have to contribute. Be part of the solution. Cynicism is a cop-out. The world needs you.

I am sitting here in Ontario Canada on January 14th 2021, and things have changed and accelerated in so many ways in regards to Covid and Your govt. in The US. J.B. you really knew what you were talking about when you viewed your political insights, I have been and will be immersed in the outcome on Jan 20th, although it clearly will not be the end to so many so many of the issues you all face there. Enough said about that, If and when you get out on tour again Jackson, it sure would be nice if you could make a stop in Ontario. There is nothing I love more than a live concert but unfortunately I have never seen you, would love to very much before I am history too!

I liked Jackson Browne since hearing his first record way back in 1969 or 70. The radio was playing "Song For Adam". I always admired his song-writing; he was my personal favorite outside of the Beatles and Dylan. I somewhat followed him through the years and became disappointed around "The Pretender" which was excellent but revealed what I considered a decline. "Late For The Sky" is on of my top albums and for decades what I would choose if I could only have one album on a desert island. Listening to him in this interview, I recognize that he is still a thinking man. In my own evolution (I grew up in California also, and I am two years younger than Jackson) I returned to essential orthodox Christianity. And after living abroad for 11 years, I returned to political conservatism. I won't go into what that means. But as regards this interview, I think that Jackson has become like so many of our generation a social marxist, a Trump hater, and somewhat myopically scanning the horizon and the future looking for that Utopia we were always looking for in the late 60s and early 70s before the deluge. I am disappointed that he has landed and sort of stayed at that California politico-coolness which says that other countries are somehow better than the USA; that it's good to protest (BLM and ANTIFA ?!?! are you kidding me?), and that if Trump wins the election it's purely because he stole it. I have serious ideological differences with Jackson Browne. My hope, however, and my prayer, is that he will continue to think through things, and that he will acknowledge that everything he has become and that he has been given is because he is an American. I am not through with him yet...

feel similarly ambivalent about the simplistic political creed of the aging multi talented over privileged hippy singer songwriters. Interestingly Graham Nash in Wild Tales (the extraordinary autobiography of his extraordinary life) chronicles how he fell out with Joni Mitchell in a hotel room about CSN continually slagging off USA which she felt was "biting the hand that feeds you". Joni was wiser maybe about all the " California politico-coolness"? Didnt stop Nash from putting her "over his knee" apparently (after she threw milk or something over him ) Thanks for your assessment anyway, wont make any difference of course, we are in "history" .

Respectfully, so many other countries are cooler than America if you agree that health care is a human right and should be equally available to all Americans no matter if they are currently employed and no matter how much money they earn. What you call "social marxist", I call social democracy. There is a huge difference between authoritarian regimes that call themselves socialist but are really Communist (Cuba, Venezuela), and social democracies that elect their governments by democratic voting (Sweden, England, Canada, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Australia) and provide health care to all people who live in these countries. Being a Christian too, I always ask myself what would Jesus think. I have no doubt that Jesus would be in favor of health care for all people. Jesus would also be in favor of a livable minimum wage for people because Jesus is always there for the poor and oppressed. When I work for a $15 minimum wage, I too am working for Jesus. I love the country in which I live but there is a lot of room for improvement and we can learn to improve by looking at other countries that have advanced humanity forward. Jackson knows this too. Peace and love to you.

JB is a talented lyricist and composer of music and what he says with music is so much smoother than listening to his ramblings about politics in the U.S. He is passionate for sure and entitled to his opinion. But, like a lot of politically passionate folks he weaves opinion into facts ....and if you repeat it often enough, it must be true.

  • @robbrown4621

    @robbrown4621

    3 жыл бұрын

@@wmjoin I get the sense that you are dismissing Jackson Browne for what you believe to be are political misrepresentations in his message. But, you might be missing the larger picture here with his music and his personality. At the end of the day, Jackson supports the political message and the politicians that work for the poor, working, middle class people, our children, our grandchildren, the world in which we live and what we are creating and leaving for them. That's why he supports the Progressive Agenda, which is a living wage for minimum wage earners, health care as a human right to all people regardless if they are employed, between jobs, or unemployed, stronger trade unions, and free college education at the state and local level. He also supports the Green New Deal, which is a plan to be more in alignment with the natural environment, protect species habitat, and address the climate change issues. Many artists are very empathetic and want to create positive changes. Jackson Browne, like John Lennon did, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty, and many others, see the political powers that obstruct improving the lives of marginalized people as politicians on the wrong side of the issue; especially if they are aligned with powerful business interests who put profit before people.

He must have went back to wanting to play more new stuff than known releases. I just saw him and I only knew 3 songs all night. He was great and is so talented, but I would have enjoyed the chance to sing along to so many I remember and loved. I was disappointed, I paid alot for good seats.

@@dedge8425 Yes but I find him hypocritical. He has for many years campaigned against private beaches in Los Angeles particularly Malibu and various other causes including anti-nuke, anti-liquefied natural gas, anti-oil derrick‘s in the Santa Barbara channel etc. However, he owns a home or at least property in the Hollister Ranch just north of Santa Barbara and the minimum parcel size is 100 acres. The state coastal commission wants to open that beach up to the public for access but he is against that. All of a sudden when it affects his property it’s OK to keep it private?

JB was anti-nuclear in the 80s. But if he is really serious about Climate Change, then (sorry guys) but Nuclear Power is one of the best options around. It's clean, no carbon at all, and much safer with today's nuclear reactor technology especially with what they're doing in France and Finland.

Being an Australian, Jackson is describing the Australian voting system, not sure what other countries use this system. He is wrong about it will effect the different parties, each party will change their platform and policies to get the most amount of votes to succeed.
