    Agreed. The callers back in the 1990's were a big part of the humor on the show. This was before social media, so there were a lot more people listening to Howard. The show lost a lot when people stopped calling because they were busy on facebook and later twitter and instagram.

    And yet The Howard Stern Show has plummeted into a sh!tty Zoom Call, ...its even less than a podcast, and the ACTUAL numbers, that Sirius tracks accurately, shows only a few hundred thousand listeners at this point. There are 12 year olds streaming themselves playing video games on Twitch that have more followers. He has absolutely betrayed and excommunicated every person that ever worked with him to make the show what it was. Even Imus is more respectable for the time, and millions of dollars, he spent on charity and to provide for sick children. Howard hasnt given a penny to anyone, and he's a billionaire. You clearly do not understand what Jackie was doing. He was not walking away from big money, he thought he would get more by walking away, and he was wrong. This is a negotiating tactic, and it usually works. People on TV shows, athletes, people on radio etc all use this tactic, and as I said most of the time it works. Sometimes though it does not work. One of the more famous times it did not work was when Suzanne Somers tried it on Three's Company. Three's company was the new hit show, and Suzanne Somers was by far the most popular character, so when her new contract came up they offered her a lot of money, but she walked away because she thought she could get more, but instead of giving her more they replaced her with a much cheaper actress. One of the more well known times it worked was when Redd Foxx walked out on Sandford And Son. Redd Foxx was up for a new contract, and at the same time The Jeffersons was a new show, and Sanford And Son was the number one show on the network, but Foxx found out they were paying the Jeffersons cast like 3 times more than him and they had personal dressing rooms, so he quit. They actually replaced him with Grady, and Grady came to live with Lamont, and after like 3 months they submitted and paid him what he wanted and gave the cast their own dressing rooms. Larry Hagman did the same thing on Dallas. Dallas was the most popular show on all of TV, he thought he should be making more money, so he quit. They did an entire season without him, realized he was worth and the show needed him, so they gave him the biggest contract ever on TV so he would come back. The funny part is Hagman said he was getting ready to call them and beg for his job back when they called him and told him they would give his a ton of money to come back. That is what Jackie was doing, he thought he was important enough to the show that they would pay him more, and they did not see it his way. He was clearly important to them, but not important enough to get paid more than they were offering. Howard does pay well. Just Robin, Gary and Fred get paid a combined 20 million per year. Robin gets 10 million, Fred gets 6 million and Gary gets 4 million, which is basically a quarter of the shows entire budget. Howard owns the show, and he pays all the staff, and that money comes from Sirius paying Howard for the rights to play his show.

  • @Nunya_Bidness_53

    @@chrisgullett4332 I understand Jackie's ploy and how it flopped; what I'm saying is: If I were Howard and Tom Cheapasano or whoever came to me and said: "We're offering you $20 million this year." I would say: "Oh? That's very interesting, that means you have $20 million to pay in salaries to the HSS. But waut--the HSS isn't just me, it's Robin, Fred, Jackie, and Gary. So why does even Robin, my princess, make $250K, while Fred and Jackie only make $75K, and Baba Booey makes a mere $35K?! Give each of them a million dollars, and I'll take $16 million. I'm actually saving you $435K in salaries if you do it that way!" That would be *my* negotiating tactic. Things obviously changed once they got to Sirius.

  • @chrisgullett4332

    @chrisgullett4332

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Nunya_Bidness_53 That is not how it works. The show is the product, and it is owned by Howard. Howard lets Sirius play his show on their platform, and they pay him for that right. That money goes towards the production of the show, paying all salaries including his own and all expenses. Again, Howard is now under contract for 90 million a year, and out of that 90 million he has to pay for everything, and he pays 20 million alone to just three staff members. Robin gets 10 million, Fred gets 6 million and Gary gets 4 million. so after paying them that leaves 70 million to pay for everything else. Howard does not have to take a pay cut, cause everybody gets paid from the same source, which is the money Sirius pays to use the show. Not to mention all the risk is on Howard, who has to pay to fight any lawsuits, pay for any injuries, paid vacations, payroll taxes etc.

    What Jackie did was the equivalent of a sports holdout. He thought the show would immediately fall apart and they would beg him back. Howard would have been successful with ANYONE; Jackie thought he was equally part of the success(he said it many times). He was just wrong. There is no record to set straight. Howard has kept a core group of employees together for decades. No one else has done that on radio EVER. Richard, Sal, JD, Will, Jason, Gary, John Hein, Benjy, Fred. The list goes on and on and on. And yet, angry comment after angry comment about how Howard doesn’t take care of people. That is Jackie or Eric level delusion.

Riley besides Elliot and Eric was one of the most entertaining guests. And a decent person. Elliot as much as I love him, is apparently quite a nasty person. And Eric was essentially Howard's last great guest. He should also of been paid quite well. As much as we all love Howard, without the wack pack he would never of been so popular. They lifted him to one of, if not the, greatest radio hosts ever.

    Jackie shouldn't have turned down the money and I'm sure he regretted it. Still, Stern spent the next two decades badmouthing Jackie like a little girl just like he does everytime anyone voluntarily leaves the show. He got lucky with Artie. Those two guys, Jackie and Artie, were the best parts of the show. Fred's comedy has always been lame and you could always tell what he had written. Fred's stuff was and is always just so incredibly bad, filled with corny puns and bad puppeteering. The show has been on a steady decline since 2010 and is now completely unlistenable. Howard has turned into a shut in shill for the mainstream who needs every word scripted for him by a staff of over fifty unfunny people.

    Howard and the fans for the next year after quitting had to listen to Jackie appearing on various radio programs and various publications such as the New York Post Page six where he would give these BS claims regarding how he quit by saying that he was kicked off. In Jackie's warped mind offering to come back after half a year and it being declined is being kicked out. In his warped mind who cares if Greg Fitzsimmons or Adam carolla just signed to do a week's worth. And other comedians have been signed as well to do a week. Who cares if this show can discover some new people. Who cares if Artie has just signed to be full-time. The show is supposed to go pick him up after he dropped them for a half year? And these BS stories did not stop after a year he would find a new medium to tell these BS stories everywhere he could. If you really thought that Howard and the others in the crew were going to just ignore that going on and not respond you're delusional.

    Everybody knows Jackie made a mistake but maybe he was the smartest one on the show, you think it's easy being around a bleeding heart liberal like Howard, he's two-faced, he's pompous, he's arrogant, he is all the things that he calls Donald Trump including a hypocrite. Howard used to be the man but then, to use his expression, he "jumped the shark". How do you go from butt Bongo Fiesta to bad-mouthing Republicans and trying to convince people to vote his way. And never mind the way she speaks to his audience, these are the people that made him and this is how he talks to us? I guess it just goes to show that all those years when he was making it like the listeners were something they really were not, he was just lying to get his day in the sun which is finally come. Now, with mansions and millions, he can do what he wants, he can say what he wants and he can be the piece of dirt that he is even with tons of listeners canceling their Serious subscription

    Now imagine if Howard had kept Jackie, Billy West and had Artie in frequently, ala Gilbert, to tell his stories. The Stern show has been unfunny dogshit since the departure of Jackie & Billy and Artie is one of the best storytellers that ever lived but his joke writing is crap as evidenced by his terrible standup. He never made Howard funny like Jackie did. He was only funny himself in his stories. Now we're bombarded with how Stern is a "great interviewer' as he tongues the fart boxes of the overexposed celebrities he once hilariously mocked (via Jackie's notes and Billy's voices).
