@Joe Casson I grew up with my home away from home being a small town like Mayberry. Bath, NC. My grandparents lived right on Main Street. Yes, people knew a lot about other people, but that's what happens in a close knit community. Sure there were gossips, and nosy neighbors, people with poor personalities, and, yes, racists, but that's the case everywhere you go. I don't care if you are in Frogmore, SC or Los Angeles, CA. In Bath, every evening we'd sit on the front porch and random passersby would stop and join in on the conversation. Maybe grab a cup of coffee and hang out. It may have been the principal of the high school (white) or Jimmy the black man that mowed lawns. It didn't matter. Everyone was welcome and it was that way with most every front porch in town. I'm glad I grew up in a small town and I'm a better person for it. It was never as you put it "Shitty" or "Racist". I'm sorry you feel the way you do. You sound like an angry person and someone who has a lot to hide🤔

I had the pleasure of knowing Jack in his later years when he kept busy in the security industry in Las Vegas. He was stoked about doing this special and could still sing... but I knew this having seen him sing unaccompanied for a lady in the office on her birthday. Truly a nice man.

Jack Prince was an AMAZING singer. He had a warmth with his delivery that was unique. Loved his Andy Griffith character so much, I named one of my children after that character.

Hal Smith wasn't only, as he mentions in the interview with Ralph here, the voice of Barney Rubble and Dino on the Flinstones, he also voiced the owl character on Winnie The Poo, and his most iconic character, perhaps (outside of Otis Campbell on the Andy Griffith show), was that of the claymation dog, Goliath, on "Davey and Goliath," which aired around the world for many years. Jack Prince not only appeared on Broadway and as a Big Band vocalist, he appeared on a number of recordings as a background and primary male vocalist with and without credit. These were two very talented men, heaven must be a lot more entertaining since their arrival just a months apart.

arspraestigium1 iconic as Davey and Goliath? I'm sure most people would disagree. I think his most iconic role outside of the Andy Griffith Show is Mr Whittaker on Adventures in Odyssey. More people have heard of Adventures in Odyssey than Davey and Goliath, especially since AIO is still going strong and Davey and Goliath isn't. And people who grew up with him as Mr Whittaker have a lot of respect for him and regard him as the "real Mr Whittaker".

Almost exactly 30 yrs since he sang with Andy, and his voice still beautiful! But to see them both as little old men made me sad. Also made me realize that Otis and Rafe were both older in Andy Griffith than I thought they were. At least 10 yrs older. Because 30 yrs is a long time, but it also isn’t. When someone dies at 30, we are certainly not saying they lived a nice full life. We are saying they were way too young. See?

When I heard "Rafe Hollister" sing this song on The Andy Griffith Show, and the way Andy played the guitar...my heart! Just so, so beautiful. He still sounded great here. This song and "There Is A Time" by The Darlings, are my two all-time favorites of all the songs performed on The Andy Griffith Show. I'm so glad I was raised watching this show with my Mom. Andy Griffith was such a good, God-fearing man.

My Aunt was telling me about this because she was friends with someone there and she was telling me about the host being one of my grand dad's good friends. I was shocked because I absolutely love Andy Griffith! I live in Tennessee and I got to meet goober in Gatlinburg. I love him. Sweet guy!!

I along with a number of friends and family we’re blessed to see him at one of the very last Andy Griffith Mayberry reunions in the early 90’s. He sang the same song and was dressed in the same manner. The Darlings (Dillards) E T Bass along with so many others. An event I shall never ever forget 😊

Actually, when the emcee asked Jack about the the episode with Barney & the dead microphone & he responded that Andy had requested he go to the tryouts with Barney, Jack inadvertently was talking about another episode which was #83 "Rafe Hollister Sings" The episode with the dead mic is #52 "Barney and the Choir" which Jack was not in. Thanks for posting, as I had never saw this one before. It was great to see Jack & Hal together again.

@JubalCalif :) I also did some research and didn't find much more than you did. Just that he was trained to sing at an early age. I didn't know that he was in a Broadway show with Andy. Doesn't surprise me much. Since Andy was very good at having actors/singers he had worked with before on his TV show. God gave him such a wonderful voice. I sure he continued singing and acting. I think people with a God given talent to do music will always find a way to share it with others.

It may have been the principal of the high school (white) or Jimmy the black man that mowed lawns. It didn't matter. Everyone was welcome and it was that way with most every front porch in town. I'm glad I grew up in a small town and I'm a better person for it. It was never as you put it "Shitty" or "Racist". I'm sorry you feel the way you do. I had the pleasure of knowing Jack in his later years when he kept busy in the security industry in Las Vegas. He was stoked about doing this special and could still sing... but I knew this having seen him sing unaccompanied for a lady in the office on her birthday. Truly a nice man.

Jack Prince was an AMAZING singer. He had a warmth with his delivery that was unique. Loved his Andy Griffith character so much, I named one of my children after that character.

His voice and very presence will live for eternity...
Hal Smith wasn't only, as he mentions in the interview with Ralph here, the voice of Barney Rubble and Dino on the Flinstones, he also voiced the owl character on Winnie The Poo, and his most iconic character, perhaps (outside of Otis Campbell on the Andy Griffith show), was that of the claymation dog, Goliath, on "Davey and Goliath," which aired around the world for many years. Jack Prince not only appeared on Broadway and as a Big Band vocalist, he appeared on a number of recordings as a background and primary male vocalist with and without credit. These were two very talented men, heaven must be a lot more entertaining since their arrival just a months apart.

arspraestigium1 iconic as Davey and Goliath? I'm sure most people would disagree. I think his most iconic role outside of the Andy Griffith Show is Mr Whittaker on Adventures in Odyssey. More people have heard of Adventures in Odyssey than Davey and Goliath, especially since AIO is still going strong and Davey and Goliath isn't. And people who grew up with him as Mr Whittaker have a lot of respect for him and regard him as the "real Mr Whittaker".

Almost exactly 30 yrs since he sang with Andy, and his voice still beautiful! But to see them both as little old men made me sad. Also made me realize that Otis and Rafe were both older in Andy Griffith than I thought they were. At least 10 yrs older. Because 30 yrs is a long time, but it also isn’t. When someone dies at 30, we are certainly not saying they lived a nice full life. We are saying they were way too young. See?
Jack Prince was an amazing singer. If he has passed on, one thing for sure is that he is a sorely missed man. God rest his soul.

When I heard "Rafe Hollister" sing this song on The Andy Griffith Show, and the way Andy played the guitar...my heart! Just so, so beautiful. He still sounded great here. This song and "There Is A Time" by The Darlings, are my two all-time favorites of all the songs performed on The Andy Griffith Show. I'm so glad I was raised watching this show with my Mom. Andy Griffith was such a good, God-fearing man.

I along with a number of friends and family we’re blessed to see him at one of the very last Andy Griffith Mayberry reunions in the early 90’s. He sang the same song and was dressed in the same manner. The Darlings (Dillards) E T Bass along with so many others. An event I shall never ever forget 😊

9 years ago lol and you still get a like. I watch A.G every night including tonight :) Barney gave Andy and Mayberry more problems than any of the crooks. I have his name in my email.
Actually, when the emcee asked Jack about the the episode with Barney & the dead microphone & he responded that Andy had requested he go to the tryouts with Barney, Jack inadvertently was talking about another episode which was #83 "Rafe Hollister Sings" The episode with the dead mic is #52 "Barney and the Choir" which Jack was not in. Thanks for posting, as I had never saw this one before. It was great to see Jack & Hal together again.

Two great actors from the Andy Griffith Show. Interestingly they both passed away in the sane month only few years after this. (Both died in January 1994)

@JubalCalif :) I also did some research and didn't find much more than you did. Just that he was trained to sing at an early age. I didn't know that he was in a Broadway show with Andy. Doesn't surprise me much. Since Andy was very good at having actors/singers he had worked with before on his TV show. God gave him such a wonderful voice. I sure he continued singing and acting. I think people with a God given talent to do music will always find a way to share it with others.
