I could be wrong but his collection of Squire guitars is probably more of an artistic statement and he’s probably trying to be a contrarian. He’s probably trying to create the image of being the “cool poor man”…..That said, Squire guitars are still excellent especially when set up properly. I actually prefer my Squire bass than a Fender one

Being fortunate enough (and old enough) to have seen the band with Duane 10 times, I enjoyed the interview with Jack, most notably his humility. I've seen few as soulful as Duane, and Dickey was no slouch in that department as well, but purely in terms of guitar playing, Jack is on a whole other level than anybody who has ever played with the ABB. His Jazz chops are pretty damn amazing as well. I have never watched a player that was more relaxed in his execution. Probably the most underrated player in the USA.

Working with Renegade in Murfreesboro, Muscle Shoals, and Pensacola was so much fun. We came up with the band's name sitting on the porch at Broadway Sound Studio as the sun came up (looking at the studio owner's Jeep Renegade). Jack was a prodigy. And Lee Roy was no slouch, either! ;-) No surprise they both have had so much success! Cream always rises to the top.
There’s nothing wrong about cheap guitars as long as the intonation is correct then it’s all about your playing - your skill - how well you have learned the music you play. Jack has done a lot of homework and he has a natural talent for guitar , certainly one of my favourite players .

I have over two dozen songs on worldwide release and I get feedback from listeners complementing my "guitar tone". Interestingly, like Jack, I took a chance on a Squier Telecaster for $89 new because I liked the fact it had a humbucker at the bridge. As it turns out, that became my favorite guitar for recording, especially the guitar solos and is the guitar I use 95% of the time in the studio. I have more expensive guitars but nothing pleases me more than soloing on what I call my "Rockcaster" (The $89 Tele) for tone and playability. Although it's not bad looking you'll never see a picture of it as I try to keep it my as my "little secret". Go figure.

Absolutely hilarious. I was going through a pawn shop back in about 2002 and I found a Squire Strat that the neck felt perfect on it. It was a '99 and out of Indonesia. I did have to eventually replace the pickup switch, the saddles & the nut, but it's still going strong. You know what? It's still probably the best playing guitar I've ever touched. I've picked up others that weren't as perfect as this one, but I just lucked out. Same original pickups, too. Most of your sound comes out of your speakers and amps, so there's that. I just bought a year old Squire Mustang for $100, and same thing. LOUD on its own, too, but another great Squire. You're absolutely silly if you spend thousands of dollars for a guitar. You can only do so much with wood and metal strings...

I had saved up enough money through delivering newspapers, doing odd jobs, saving pocket money, pooling Christmas and birthday money to buy a USA Strat. I remember going to the music shop (Salop music in Shrewsbury, UK) and the friendly guitar salesman taking me through all the Strats on sale. Then he said "Here, try this Squier, it's brilliant". Yeah, I first learned to play on a "finger-bleeder" too. A couple of years ago I stumbled on a 1960 model Martin that was left unlocked in the vintage room at an iconic midwestern music store, and picked it up and started playing it. As I sat there facilitating the wonderful sounds this instrument was poised to release, I thought about that "finger-bleeder," and how unfair it was that anyone should have to learn to play on a guitar that wasn't as easy to play as this , but then I just accepted it as a way the Universe weeds out the uncommitted.

There are plenty of Squiers that play and sound great. Most of the time the problems with Squiers is the factory doesn't set them up properly. It makes way more sense to gig with a hundred dollar guitar than a 3k custom shop strat. There isn't any big difference in tone and playability

@@tedschmidt3288 Hi Ted, so that was his bands name? They were a great band for a young musician learning his craft. They were solid musicians. Thirteen was definitely his age. I guess his dad was his manager booking gigs and traveling with his son . His watched out for him and made sure he was safe. He is still on the road with his son which I think is very cool .They are apparently a very close tight knit family .

"Derek had his slide guitar technique perfect at 13 years old. " You would have thought but he's gone way beyond that now. Now his guitar sounds like Aretha Franklin. I think his playing is the closest a guitar player has ever been to the human voice.

Good pick ups helps. Not sure what he uses. My friend got a used electric Godin. It had a easy fast comfortable ergonomic neck . For 175$. But sounded dull. I said try fralin pick ups. I put that guitar. Up against. 90 percent of any 4K plus fender Gibson .

Yep! I play a $65 Epiphone SG thru a 64 Vibroverb amp thats about $5,000 in value now. Also it sounds great thru a 66 Deluxe reverb vintage blackface Fender. GHS strings aso my key to good tone.
