    It seems like Jack's memories clash with the information you present in your "not director commentary" series. He states that they went through 40 cars a season...Pontiac provided all the cars for $1 a car...the rubber car shell was created at the middle of the second season. I guess he doesn't remember all the details of the series.

  • @Theratron

    @Theratron

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, the rubber shell is clearly visible in the earliest episodes, so it was there from the very beginning for sure. But hey, it's been almost 40 years. 1982. I'm surprised he remembers as much as he does. Still very cool to listen to. They were wrecking cars for sure in the earlier episodes as well though. Seeing how damaged the jump car was after the jump from Slammin' Sammy's for instance... The frame being all bent, the chassis having the shape of a banana. There's no way they could have repaired that and use the car again on another jump. So while I don't think they actually went through 40-60 cars each season, it must have been a lot.

  • @skunkster27

    Maybe he meant in all 4 seasons

  • @AL-ud2is

    @AL-ud2is

    40-60 for the whole season run is probably a more realistic number, what ever the true number it's way more than the 20-25 cars that this channel seems to think they used though the whole run...no chance

  • @Theratron

    @Theratron

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@AL-ud2is I think they mean 20 - 25 "normal" KITTs, meaning hero cars, insert cars, stunt cars, the convertible, the SPM car, that sort of thing. I think they exclude jump cars. Those jump cars were mostly used cars I believe. I remember reading in the 80's or 90's that people from the show would buy used cars or cars that where in an accident, fixing them up and using them for jumps and so on.

  • @palimpalim5291

    @palimpalim5291

    3 жыл бұрын

    Actually David Hasselhoff also stated in interviews that they broke dozens of KITTs. He even said "in on week we broke 9 cars" So Jacks memories appear to be correct. Also, it is more likely that the people that actually WORKED on the show know these things better than some fans.

David Hassellhoff is 68 years old as of this writing. 3) William Daniels, the voice of KITT, is 92 years old. Let's not forget that the Firebird hasn't been produced by GM since 2002, and Pontiac was closed as a division in 2009.

    Jack talks about how they used sped-up footage to get some of the high-speed effects for KITT. He says he "took it easy" to get turns and such to look as smooth as possible, in order to look realistic when the framerate is sped up to get the effect. When I watch those shots from back then, the thing I notice that's most incongruous with reality is the reaction of the car's suspension to impacts: The bounce/ringing is too quick, and the dampening ends up looking way too agressive. Does Jack ever talk about modifying the suspension for accelerated-framerate shots? I would think that re-tuning for a longer "bounce", like having it ride more on the springs and increasing ride height/travel to do long bounces like a Buick would look more realistic when sped-up, and I wonder if Jack has ever seen that/done that/commented on how that is or isn't done, in the past.

    With technology they could probably preserve the voice of William Daniels aka Kitt. Being that he's up in age.

    Wouldn’t Jack be the best person to get a hold of that can tell you exactly how the night writer semi trailer was designed and put together as he was the one that seen it quite a bit and drove into it quite a bit I would think he would be the best person to contact

    In my opinion the only way a reboot of knight rider would work it is to bring back KITT like he was in the 80s maybe add new features but don’t change the car so drastically like they did in a 2008 reboot using a Mustang I knew that wasn’t going to work and it didn’t there is enough KITT replicas and parts to make a new series using the same type car and functionality of the original

    I prefer the miniatures. Jumps where it's obvious the real car is nosing into the ground took me out of the moment, just as Mr. Gill said the miniatures did.
