Rose and Jack are just fictional characters, they weren’t real, but Rose represent those who survived but lost their loved ones and Jack represent those who died with the ship, it’s simple and it worked out really well in my opinion

When Jack died, I actually didn't cry because I was expecting it. When that elderly couple are dying in bed and when that mother is tucking her kids into bed.... breaks me every time:(

Also, the mother telling her kids a bedtime story was probably something that happened as well. Concerning there were many mothers and kids in 3rd and 2nd class that did *not* make it out alive. Interesting fact, the actress playing the Irish mother telling the story about Tear Na Nog was also in Cameron's Aliens movie.

People fail to realize when Jack was handcuffed to the pole his feet were already in the cold water along time till rose got him out. He was already having hypothermia issues before rose un cuffed jack. 🤔 . Very surprised people dont know this. It is even more obvious when they are on the top of the stern with the cheif with whiskey. When jack is hugging rose and they about to go into the water his shaking isnt the fear of the water it is the shaking from hypothermia. I imagine this is an eye opener for many.

It makes me sad because with Rose's status I think he might have been allowed to get onto a life boat with her. They bump into the ship's architect Thomas Andrews together at one point; I kind of imagine that he would have had the social status to get all three of them to safety and onto a life boat together, had Rose only insisted. That was one solution

Jack needed to die. He was Rose’s hero. He needed to die young & be told through legend. He also needed to be the example of how 3rd class passengers were treated on the Titanic & why so many of them died.

Jack had to die. Jack was the missing piece in Rose’s life that helped her become who she was truly meant to be. He was like a stepping stone or a ladder helping her reach the top. When jack died she left behind Rose from titanic and became Rose Dawson her true self. Without jack, she would have never realised the true possibilities and continued suffering in a isolating marriage. Plus all the promises they made together Rose fulfilled them by being independent and doing them on her own without Jack. This shows she became stronger, more confident and saw the true meaning of life❤️

Yes there are many ways Jack could have stayed alive but you’re missing the point. Jack HAD to die because it was the point of the movie. Titanic was a tragedy where hundreds of people died and lost their loved ones, so it doesn’t seem right to end such a tragedy with a good ending, it doesn’t make sense. Jack represents all the people who died that night, and rose represents all the people who had to lose their loved ones. If Jack hadn’t died you would miss the whole point and we wouldn’t realize how much that night impacted people.

I mean, it was so heartbreaking to see the responsbility he felt for *not* building Titanic strong enough and to have enough lifeboats to save everyone on board. The enormous amount of guilt and pressure on his shoulders must have been huge back in 1912. Above all, no one ever said a wrong thing about the real Thomas Andrews as well. Concerning his kindness, hospitality and big heart. Meaning, the way Victor Garber depicted Mr. Andrews in the movie, including giving the lifejacket to the fictional character of Rose to save herself, was something he would have done in reality in 1912.

Well, I had thought the same thing as well, but considering how much Cal HATES Jack, he might've taken the advantage of being alone with him, to hurt him, or worse, kill him. I mean, he did almost try and kill Rose and Jack the scene after, but it could've happened. I do think that Rose wasn't being particularly selfish, she just wanted to make sure her love was okay, but that jump could've costed her life, but it costed Jack's.

I can imagine how Jack being on that door by himself would've worked out. In the movie, people were fighting over the smallest things to stay afloat. Jack would've gotten swamped for sure, just like if the lifeboats had come back too soon. Let's face it, Jack's chances were slim, one way or another.

Yes, Jack may have been a lot more likely to have lived if Rose had just stayed on the boat. But she knew darn well that there was no boat for him to catch and no way or means for him to save himself with or without her.

Im gonna be honst, I really miss Counter Arguments uploads, one of those youtubesr you know puts in so much more effort without getting the love his channel deserves.

Actually, Jack says "I figured life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it". The point of the movie was to show viewers how short life is, anything can happen at any time. If Jack didn't die, the movie wouldn't have had the same effect. He was there to teach Rose love and life.

They had to let jack die because it creates more of emotional connection the characters. If they both would have survive the movie wouldn’t have the same impact. The movie would've been pointless if they both survived. He wanted Rose to be alright and he got really mad when Rose couldn't get to safety, he always took her before himself and saved her. Even if they hadn't known each other for long, they truly loved each other. I love the ending, when Rose dies and her soul is finally reunited with her long lost love, Jack.

Nicole Ramoutar no it wasn’t. It’s not every die a ship sink. Of course people would die bc of that, but not all. The point of the movie is to recreate the Titanic tragedy and show people how it must be like to be on the ship and how awful it was in the time after it hitting the iceberg.

Facts. The incompetence of everybody on the ship was too hilarious to believe it's real. From agreeing to speed up the ship in Iceberg infested waters, to not having having enough life boats, to not listening to Iceberg warnings from a near by ships radio signals. To not having mature watchman with better telescopes 😂 ect. The list goes on

The incompetence of the crew and the captains decisions are the main cause for the titanic sinking. The captain changing the crew at the last moment before voyage, none of the crew having access to binoculars, no lifeboat test was carried out prior to the voyage (and there were only 16 of the damn things), the captain deciding to go full speed in a known iceberg area despite all the warnings they received. The list goes on but had some of these terrible decisions not been made they could have saved more lives that night

They didn't have many lifeboats because they thought the boat was unsinkable. They only needed enough boats to go back and forth getting people from the titanic onto another ship. They had more than enough in their mind

The thing is, the crew were told the ship was "The Unsinkable" so why would anyone need training when they were told nothing bad at all would happen? And if by the smallest chance that something were to happen, there'd be lifeboats right? A whole 20 lifeboats for 2,000+ people. The ship was just jinxed before it even went to sea. The sad thing is, the ship was originally going to have about 60 lifeboats attached which would've ensured nobody would die if something happened, but they wanted the rich passengers to have a good view of the vast nothingness of the ocean so they got rid of more than half of the lifeboats.

Jack had to die because the plot required him to. End of story 💁‍♂️

Rose represents the people that survived and Jack the people that died on Titanic. There was another Titanic movie called "A night to remember" but after watching it you wouldn't be that affected. The point of these movies are to make people realize that this actually happened and that people lost their lifes, in "A night to remember" you see the tragedy, while in Titanic(1997) you live it. Cameron wanted everyone to realize that there was women out there that lost their Husbands, mothers that lost their sons so that's why Jack had to die, to make us realize that it's not just a movie, it's a life story.

You probably don't, but I have to disagree with that take as a consequence. The only reason Rose visibly survived in the movie is due to the fact that she was the *sole* protagonist. The elder Rose was there to tell to the story of the Titanic to the audience on the MV Keldysh, to the crew of Brock Lovett, a treasure hunter, and then, the audiences in the movie theaters of course as well. This was Cameron's way of wrapping the 1912 tragedy in a present day (1996>) format and make the significance of the sinking and the lives lost relevant to this day. Cameron would have achieved this with or without Jack apparently dying in the freezing water. Due to the fact that Cameron did an amazing job in bringing the 884 ft long ship back to life, including rebuilding the Grand Staircase and 1st Class Diner etc. as the two huge set pieces. This made the sinking and destruction of the ship all the more tragic. Add the visible lives lost of Thomas Andrews, but also the fictional ones, like Jack's best pal Fabrizio, Tommy Ryan, Helga, Cora and their families etc., it further made the tragedy of Titanic more relatable to the present day. Concerning we value life and the preciousness of life much more today than we did in 1912.

Actually it was a long time ago and the constructed of the ship was very stupid they put less life boats then they were supposed to to fit everyone. They were going at a fast speed cause they were running late.and when people were getting on the boats the boats were for 50 people and some boats had 20 or less . My critique of this would be where you talk about how Jack could've got on the piece of wood, had Rose gotten into the lifeboat earlier. I think however this ignores the fact that the reason they found the wood in the first place is because of all the events leading to up to there (getting chased around the ship). So maybe Jack would not have found the wood?

The issue is *not* just whether Jack would have found the piece of wood floating in the water that Rose eventually got on or not, but rather whether she would have been a distraction of him saving/rescuing his own life. Take as example, the Mythbusters episode in 2012 on the 'wooden panel' controversy. Showing that if Jack had attached a lifejacket to the wooden panel, both he and Rose could have laid on top of it, stay out of the freezing water and survive the 50 minutes that it took to be rescued with relative ease. Due to the huge buoyancy boost that the lifejacket gave to the floating device. One might wonder why Jack *never* wore a lifejacked to begin with (it was probably too important to Cameron as a plot device), but if he did wore one, he probably would have done what the Mythbusters had done. If Rose had been on a lifeboat of course.

I was only thinking about this last night. I decided that Jack would not have died if he had not had to worry about Rose. He was bright, quick witted and a survivor on his own.

So far fetched lol. Rose saved Jack multiple times?? He was handcuffed to a pole while the ship was sinking without Rose HED BE GONE. If Rose didn’t climb back up on the ship Jack would’ve died. Why? Cal. Cal and Lovejoy wanted to get rid of Jack whether the ship was sinking or not, whether he was with Rose or not to completely eliminate his chances of survival. Hence in the deleted scene Lovejoy shoots at Jack as the ship was sinking, and then Cal did. With Rose being around it eliminated the chances of Jack getting harmed more directly because Rose was there and they had no intention of harming her. Rose also helped Jack Break the bench and free the third class compartment safely, without her help they would’ve died and so would’ve Jack, Rose also had connection with mass people and employees on the ship due to her status they got far because of that. Jack wouldn’t have gotten close to making it to the door without Rose.

I’m defence of rose, the shock of losing jack after she realises she loves him more than cal, she didn’t want to leave him, and be responsible for a possible death. Of course, Rose should have been a bit more trustworthy of jack and his judgement, but she, like many others on that ship, was petrified enough to lose him. After being slightly traumatised by Cals minor abuse, and being disowned/not accepted by her mother, she’s going to feel that way! Especially as she tried to commit a few nights before. Personally, I do think that they could’ve BOTH fit on that door (idk if it’s a door - maybe just a wall frame or something). I mean, if they’d enough buoyancy to hold each other, they would’ve survived! But back in 1912, and on a sinking ship, they’re not going to think about that! Remember, people didn’t always have the best education back then - even thought jacks survival skills are IMMACULATE! The solution to this could’ve been solved if rose had maybe put her life jacket underneath the floating thingy, and possibly the physics might line up, or in other words they’d have both fit on it without it sinking / one of them dying.
