I think that they are really sent in by the public, but he reads them before he goes on for last time and prepares something to say.

I think ur probably right actually. It'd be hard to make a joke of a joke, if he hadn't prepared. And obviously not all of the texts (if they are real) , would be answerable. eg. I bought a fish the other day jack and thought of you. That'd be a bit tricky.

He is a professional comic who is an accomplished MC, he's probably heard it all before and has trained hard to be that quick. I reckon he does read a few before hand but it wouldn't surprise me if he does it on the fly for his own amusement as much as the audience
