When I heard "throw him on ice for me" the 1st thing I thought was Bleed Him First! You know, there was a time, not so many years ago, when the general concensus held that AJ were no good to eat. Imagine that! Bleed them good, cut into fingers, soak in milk, bread & fry - they'll get eaten (by the unknowing) before the grouper fingers in the next dish! Used to be that way with triggerfish, too. Folks either thought they were no good or just too much trouble to clean. Back when I was actively dive instructing and running almost weekly dive/fishing trips, I conned...uhh...bartered for a lot of trigger filets. If they'd give me their fish, I'd show how simple triggers are to clean. If I fed the trader, they never fell for that trick again!

conor calvert Same way as AJ? Fried? I'll have to admit, I've never tried. I figured might be OK grilled. I was always curious about poaching for tuna salad, never tried that either. I'll have to try. I'm betting the carcass would make a heck of a crab trap bait!

Excellent video - very informative - Five years ago I was a novice surf fisher - still am -A now deceased fishing buddy of mine - a stubborn irishman who lost his fight to cancer. Introduced me to Tiger Shores on Hutchinson Island it was May in 2014. Third day out on the surf in am I hooked into a 36 inch -nose to tail - Jack Cravelle -using cut bait - guestimated wt - 25 lbs Took me 35 minutes to land it - It wore me out = What a fighting fish - smart to - four others fishing to my left - none to my right - when they saw me start fighting the fish they thought I snag somehow -They became believers when it ran north to the left and forced them to cut their lines!!!

If you cook that fish whole you must really like gamey fish, most fish that have that much bloodline are usually why they are called trash fish cause people cook them whole or with skin on and do not realize its the blood line that gives it that taste.

Turn the gopro on and tie it with wire to the bait fish on a short leader before you throw it out. Make sure you use heavy line so you don't lose the camera. When a big fish grabs it, we should be able to see the whole thing! Nothing like that on KZread so far. It would get millions of views.*

Last summer my son caught a HUGE jack crevalle about 5 miles offshore. Took about 30minutes to bring him in. We had to keep chasing the fish with the boat to keep from being spooled off. It was a team effort to keep from losing this fish. We decided to eat it and we didn't even bleed it out on the boat. My wife soaked the massive filets in saltwater in the fridge for about 3 or 4 days. We then blackened it in a cast iron skillet. It was DELICIOUS! We didnt taste anything trashy about it at all! We will definitely eat the next one too!

Keeping it in your breading a few minutes like you did. Letting it rest is very important. Now you’re seasoning doesn’t come off. Can’t wait to take you commercial crabbing in Maryland . Blow your mind. God bless you guys.

I've probably thrown a couple hundred of these back because I was always told they were bad to eat. I should have remembered my lesson when they said the same with snook, and it turned out to be one of my favorite fish.

Yeah usually when you cook fish it turns white, but the bloodline turns a darkish brown and tastes very fishy. Some people don't mind it but most do.

If you want to remove a nasty blood line, the skin needs to come off. Small freshwater fish are great scaled with the skin on...fried in butter.

I'm from the Caribbean.... and it's really strange to see so much of a fish go to waste. I understand 100% it's your norm to do it, I've seen most of your videos because living in the middle of Canada now I don't get to saltwater fish anymore. But back on the islands, filleting is not an option. So much tasty dishes can be made with the bones in and even the head, bloodline and all.

I feel your pain, and it’s very sad to see the waste that goes on. As an active fisherman myself I don’t mind people being picky from not wanting to eat “blood line” lol “bones” and the one that really gets me is “fishy smell or taste” lol because at the end of the day it will become chum does producing more fish. Unlike in the North East from Chinese to Jamaicans everything is eaten !!! So every year the amount of fish gets lower and lower. In a way I respect the fish and wildlife cops they make sure for the most part regulations is met.

This was a will. win video for me since I just received my Woods and Water about 5 days ago. "well worth the wait" I had been up in the air about the bone and fillet, did I make the right choice. Well I did and no I am ordering the Bone and Fillet to add to my soon to be growing collection. As soon as I held that knife I knew that my gut instinct to trust this guy was spot on. I love it.

Living in a country that has forgotten anything genuine and/or christian (Sweden), I really enjoy watching a family that still values what the Lord has given us. I wish you and your family all the best.
