When I was ten years old, my mother bought me a CD of assorted pieces from the tenth International Chopin Competition. It featured the likes of pianists Luisada, Gekic, Fichman, and Jablonski--the latter playing this piece. I fell in love with his rendition, and I'm so glad I found this video!

I had the same experience, just I had 12 years. I expected to listen crazy fast performance, since I had the sheet music which says Presto con Fuoco, but I wasn't prepared for this. Since then I've been practicing this Scherzo and I can tell that it's impossible to play it like this in a modern huge Grand.

Wait, this is actually like the best version of this piece I've heard. This is ridiculously good. It's always nice to know that you don't have to be ridiculously famous to play super well (on the other hand, it also implies that you don't necessarily become famous by playing this well :( ). Anyway, amazing.

I had this performance on CD back in 1997, and it was the first time I had ever heard Chopin. I immediately fell in love Chopin's music, and I have still never heard a better performance of this Scherzo than this. I wasn't aware Steve Jablonsky wasn't well-known, because I've known his name since I was 9 years old!

@@AlexWalkerSmith I heard this performance on a cassette tape called Masters of Classical Music - Chopin. Also when I was about 9 years old! That's crazy! I haven't heard a better performance either and I've always remembered his name since. It is actually because of him and Chopin that I still play piano today.

My favorite interpretation of one of my favorite pieces. I love this scherzo because of the opportunities it gives performers to change its character with their own interpretations. Once you've heard Jablonski's, though, no one else's sounds quite right. Everyone else seems to lose the melody even if they're technically perfect. Surely this must be how the master himself played the piece, and if it isn't, then Jablonski has outdone Chopin.

My dad is a very good friend of krzystof jablonski. They went to the same class, very good friends. He practiced on piano 8 hours a day and never knew what was a summer vacation he mostly just played, his first summer was when he was 19. My dad just met up with him yesterday (toronto) :P. He is going to brazil now travels everyweek :P.

@@AlexWalkerSmith Awesome! Yeah, I'm not always a fan of this pyrotechnic style of interpretation but he does it so, so beautifully -- it feels like perfection, and I have to think Chopin would love it. He is a genius at teasing out melody.

Powiem jedno. Krzysztof Jabłoński to samo Scherzo, gra o wiele dojrzalej, idealny sound, tempo, każda nuta "wypieszczona". Coś niesamowitego. Poszukajcie. Najlepsze jakie słyszałem. Tak to wymiótł, że głowa mała.

5:50 Listen to this transitionary material that is floating by the soft embrace of the sustain which retains the warmth of this sound unlike any other recordings I've heard. Other recordings (although delightful ones for the care taken in the rest of the piece) either slap this part out trying to add emphasis to this part of the melody or play it so thinly that the warmth of this one part is lost in the sterile legato. Perfect amount of pedal and not bogged down by rubato.
