J47 Front Buildup
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Showing further progress from the April 22 video, we complete the final assembly of the intake and accessories of the J47 turbojet. This engine will be installed in a North American F86-F Sabre, and flown in airshows throughout the USA.

You have a dream job... I'm in college studying aerospace engineering, and getting ready for finals. Your videos are my study breaks. Thanks for sharing your experience with these incredible machines!
@aimpointcx4444 Not supposed to notice the presence of any copyrighted material... I didn't!
Clean as a whistle, beautiful sight.
Ahhh another great video!, you really make me miss the workshop, thanks a bunch
Ive learned a lot from your video's..thanks my friend
@1metiz Checklists and build sheets are common with engines, both industrial and aerospace. This engine is no longer supported by GE, so there are noo manuals or paperwork available. I was able to obtain the overhaul manual from Eflightmanuals, and we are using that as a reference. Blindfolded? I couldn't even pour a glass of milk blindfolded...
Thank for the videos I really enjoy them. This is better then the Discovery channel. Thank you for sharing

If that's not the coolest engineering job (rebuilding jet engines) then I cannot think of what is!
Great to see someone keeping these classic engines going. It's interesting that early turbojets had the accessory drive in the nose. I would think that would affect engine performance - a narrower compressor inlet and presumably ram compression from the bulbous nose cone. By the next gen J79 GE moved the accessories to the bottom of the engine.
Agent jzay you doing great work
This was fun to watch! more of there is something i would enjoy! but the informative vids are great to! :)
nice work!!
great job show that hunk o metal whose boss!
I like to use a speed handle for the V-Bands, you can snug it pretty quickly while keeping positive pressure on the generator.
Beautiful
Nice work
I'll be tuning in to see that baby scream into life :)
Wow saw beautiful
best teaching.. thanks to senior...
@LarryCanFly This engine is designed to run at 8000 rpm, and the auxiliary drive, which is what our speed pickup is mounted to, turn at a ratio of 9:20, or 45% of engine speed.
Very nice thanks
Do you still need to check the manual before each step or have you put so many of these engines together that you can do it blindfolded? Do you you have some sort of checklist fo each and every part/ action to make sure you don't forget anything? Great vids, very informative!
Been watching a lot of your videos. Quick question. How do you guys do it as far as qc for your work do you have a TI? Look at it after your done or are you able to sign off your own work and verify it was done correct?
Tank for the video🌄🌍🎆🏝
Nice
. Good job i like it
Do any later engines have all the accessories clustered on the front or did they realize that that was inconvenient and changed it for later models?
Looks like a starter, a beefy one at that. I think you should add a few more lines and hoses before ya slip that cover on. lol What happens if you have a slight leak somewhere.
why hoses connections to fittings no have wire locking? hoses fit very tight, they do not rub each other to the holes?
your videos are great but you say things like his it the right part , better be and man don't be afraid too ask for help. love your videos they help me greatly thanks.
Good question. I ask it a lot. The oil lines are critical, and so are fuel lines. Yet they have no locking or safety mechanism on their couplings. Why ? Answer is: I don't know. It makes you extra careful knowing that.
Do you the final airworthyness certificate?
can you do one with better parts description or a flash slide show with more part naming?

Seems to be no torque specs for any connections or bolts?
Coming right along like a fluid.. Next on the playlist is the test cell.. 1947 they designed this.. Seems like 2000 tech.

@AgentJayZ Thank you very much for your reply. i look forward to viewing the previously made video on the subject.
How tight do you typically torque on nuts and bolts on a jet engine?
Great video!, was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction when sourcing out reference material for the GE J47 (technical manuals/design features etc.)

Yes. A company called Eeflightmanuals dot com is where we obtained a collectors edition of the US Air Force Training manual about the J-47. They have a lot of listings... have fun!
show muito bom o vide-o
Mantapppp sekali super
The other soundtrack of people discussing the merits of hiding gear in coffins was better :)
do they still use safety wire on all jet engine bolts and nuts? we did in the USAF for the J-79's

I don't know about all, but we do use a lot of it. How strange that today, I started working on the front end of another J47 engine !

Aren't we, not suppose to use crome belated tools when assembling jet engines
seems like they spend most of the tme looking for and waiting for parts!

Your question actually makes no sense, and does not have an answer. Please hang up and try again.
Hi
Repairs on those engines must be atrocious just looking at all the bolts and parts, never mind parts.

+roger brandt No. You must follow a procedure and have it checked over by someone not involved. Just in case. These are precision machines and actually a pleasure to work on.
Garnish future in hands m,AY FREND if you ask vie your video, maybe make new engine off fuel.dott

Not exactly plug n play is it ? LOL
This jet engine looks badly engineered to me, or perhaps I should say primitve, i.e. early stages of development. Very complicated and too many hoses and things. Advances in experience and knowhow make for less parts.

This is an early model in the history of jet engines. It probably contains one tenth as many parts as a modern turbofan on any large airliner.
i've seen better jobs done on car engines...

You have never worked on a car engine... And you have never worked on a jet engine... Correct? You have no idea what you are talking about. Look around and learn. Welcome to Jet City!
