I’ve read many classic works of fiction and seen many great paintings. I’ve heard and performed Mozart and Beethoven and Wagner and other great composers. But in all my travels around The World of Great Art, I have a single conclusion: Bach is the greatest artist who has ever lived, and he even makes other geniuses look amateurish.

Though he has one flaw, melody. This is where Bach is pretty mediocre, he really only shines where he has some harmony and counterpoint going on. Even then, he's too logical, too cerebral

Just wonderful, and congratulations to Matthias Beckert for a great production of this compact but excellent piece. As a veteran of 50+ years of choral singing, I congratulate you and your excellent chorus and soli.

This isn't the slickest Magnificat out there, but is so gloriously MUSICAL. There is something genuine and thoroughly engaged about this performance. At times the chorus seems to dancing with the rhythms. Definitely among the top performances that I have ever heard. As others have remarked, the bassist is a rock star.

The bassist is playing in the Baroque style with a convex bow. The bows of the 17th century were convex, instead of the concave style presently employed. This style and bow has you holding the bow more toward the center of gravity, instead of grasping the frog. He also does not seem to be adhering to the commonly used Simandl technique. Please do not take my comments as derogatory, as to me this presentation is wonderful. Just commenting on the bass, and what is different about it.

I always find Bach so compelling that I suspend disbelf.. Most liturgical music does this to me but Bach especially. His music seems to plumb the mystery of Christanity with such conviction that one is obliged to share his faith. And this choir has prompted one to share Bach's faith and theirs. That is the splendour of music. It transcends internaland external boundaries

In most of Bach work there's a part of reverie,of dreams that tranport us to a sort of refuge where we can lie down in sweet somnolence. Let the rythims surround us and continously being bathed by this melody. On our way to a joyful encounter for we seem to be enveloped by something indescribable but with a smile on our face.Bach will always be remembered as a revered melodist.

What a superb performance; I was particularly impressed by the respect of the audience in allowing the music to end and have its reflective moment before the applause. I performed this (as a treble I think) at school some 50 years ago, and in a grand clear out of study books found my old score so had to find it and re-experience its joys. . . . The score stays in my study! Again, thank you.

The music was written to flow from one piece into the next without anything interrupting it. Like scenes in a movie nowadays, it is one singular performance that sticks together. Its just a stylistic difference between older musical concerts and a modern musical concert where every piece is an independent single. I hope that helps and didn't come off as snobby lol

It's interesting what you say. Do you know when they started applauding after every part? I know that in Beethoven's time, one applauded after every part of the concerto, and the audience could even demand an encore of one of the parts of the concerto before proceeding to the next one. Wagner, I think, was the one who stomped it down hard, so for a while one only applauded at the end of a concerto, and now the applause in the middle is re-emerging.

There is a charming artlessness to this performance; of course they are well-rehearsed and clearly everyone involved is talented, I don't mean to give them a backhanded compliment! I just mean that there is this irrepressible ENERGY in this performance, the feeling that everyone there is so delighted and honored to be there and getting to express this gorgeous music, and it overrides any technical complaint (and there are not many!) anyone could have. If they were to listen to this performance with an open heart, it wouldn't matter how much or how little musical experience the listener had - they would be swept away on the same wave of sincere musical joy regardless! I have rarely been so moved by a performance - bravissimo!!!

더블베이스를 가운데에 세운 덕분에 집중 감상했습니다. 평소에는 신경 안쓰던 악기를 최상으로 즐기게 한 배치^^ 깔끔하면서도 훌륭한 연주 감사~

Pura alegria. Uma alegria contida, interior, sóbria esta que Bach teve o génio de oferecer à humanidade! Adradecimentos a Monteverdi Würzburg, pela partilha.
