Discovery of the Bach-Stiftung St Gallen was one of the most serendipitous moments of my musical life. The performances are peerless: historically informed, spiritually communicative and vibrant with vitality, thanks to the superb vision and skill of Rudolf Lutz and his unfailingly splendid singers and instrumentalists.

I sang in the choir in this cantata back in 1969. The melodic line and the words are still fresh in my mind. What an experience this was . Being Jewish, I stuck out like a sore thumb in the Dutch Reformed church in which we performed (South Africa)

"Himmelskönig, sei willkommen...." ich singe mit. Man fängt ja geradezu automatisch damit an. Das ganze Kirchenschiff schwingt langsam mit, merken Sie es nicht? Polyphony at its finest.

These days people love really smooth audio like this, where all the sound blends like a rolo yoghurt. It's clean, but it's not soulful. I think no one understands Bach like Harnoncourt.

A beautiful cantata; one of my favorites by Bach. Jesus does not enter Jerusalem with pomp and grandiosity; he does so without regality, but with love, and that is beautifully expressed in the sonata.

Mbro O'neil! It's a (T'was an) ordinary Friday night here in the Rocky Mountains. 23:19. Of course it just became extraordinary. ...as I bam-decide to go through with putting my 2cents out there to the global polis. Just now as I draft n draft text, like the dutiful little ant we all are.... the lovely, going-up and "allegretto" recorder/voice duet. The peculiar harmonic overtones of the Germanic "Blockflöte" here will have, with certainty, resonated in that heart of y/ours, which bleeds green 😁. Or, if you will, bleed the overtones of at least 50 shades of Celtic tinwhistle. I'm intoxicated by Bach's ingenious melody in this instance for a flute. But onward. As can often be the case while listening to JSB, the human mind-body can easily launch into a thing I don't quite get. The biblical version of this thing says--I think it was Paul: "Whether in the body or the spirit I know not [...]. And in another place, best I can do paraphrasing: "Whether I was in the 6th or the 7th heaven don't make much difference ... [ETC...more fodder for 2000+ years of theologians...] The thing? A sudden un-willed effusion of memories, subdued fireworks of every hue, philo-sophy (love of though in its naive sense, and who knows how many shades of human love? Will spare us all a neo-Finnegan's Wake. The world needed only that one tome of such literature. It was indeed necessary at that juncture of our common experiment named "Earth." And so: big thanks is due to the ancient-modern nation who gave us that, "The Portrait of the Artist," and everything in between. Wanna bet JamesJ and Hannes get on great somewhere over there on 'The Otherside?" Get along famously like neutral (NOT) Swiss and fiery Irish Fisherboatmen. Tonight, with all this near miraculous stuff coming to the mind-body of just one more jaded American: Why do I now actually believe there will be a globally instructive, happy-but-not-Hollywood ending to codeword "Ukraine?" Time will tell. ===== And to Herrn Dirigent Lutz: Who could have imagined the "Tragweite," also the after effects (Nachwirkungen) of the crazy Bach-cantata project that all of you amazing Swiss [et al.] Humanists, Benefactors and Performers embarked upon? Huge thanks for your bulldog courage, matched by skill. Somehow Bach and you lightened AND transfigured the mental image of that heartsickening news flash none of us will be able to erase. The one where we found out Mr. Putin really did go through with the unthinkable. The unthinkable, after everything we have all been through from 1933-Present. Well: time to rethink, right? And finally, what is it about this highly idiosyncratic cantata?! One none of us may have ever heard in such an ideal live performance? That penultimate chorus movement, which to me evoked the starry-night paintings of Van Gogh? Whose answer is in the so-well prepared Schlusschoral. And it seems all of you together experienced this new nuance--to us but not to Bach--of the concept 'state of mind.' Mark (Arizona usa)

Wonderful music by J.S. Bach, the composer who was born in Eisenach, Germany in 1685 and later became court concertmaster in Leipzig (Germany). He composed very beautiful works, including the Christmas Oratorio!

Which is the name of the recorder-player, please? I'm trying to find a cantata were she plays a wonderful part, accompanied by the orchestra.
