On February 10th, 2006, the world of Hip Hop lost J Dilla aka Jay Dee.
James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey leaves behind an impression on Hip Hop that will last the test of time. A bridge between Hip Hop’s underground and mainstream, Dilla’s contributions ranged from single handedly defining Detroit Hip Hop as a founding member of Slum Village to providing his production talents to Common, D’Angelo, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, The Roots, Janet Jackson and Macy Gray.
The Shining marked the reunion of J Dilla & BBE, who had released Welcome 2 Detroit, J Dilla’s debut album. The Shining serves as showcase of J Dilla’s talents which features him not only as a producer, but also as a rapper, singer and musician. Featured guests on this album include Busta Rhymes, Common, Pharoahe Monch, D’Angelo, Madlib, Black Thought, Medaphor aka MED, and Guilty Simpson.

Whole time I thought it was J Dilla I knew something was off 😅
I remember during 2008, I came across this song. I just turned 16. I became obsessed with bumping J Dilla's music. Anyhow, I searched online to find out if he was working on anything new; which evidently, is what lead to me learning that J Dilla passed away 2 years ago. I was heart broken. But I'm glad he has so much music he left behind. And I'd like to also add, it's cool how his younger brother, Illa J, is the one rapping in the video, portraying Dilla. Rest well, James 🕊

J Dilla died in 2006 rip
as a musician, i have to listen to this at least once or twice a week just to get thru.
RIP DILLA, RIP DOOM
Can never get enough of this song. That beat is just so surreal. So addicting man, been having it on repeat for days now. Feel like its gotten me thru the days a bit. Makes me feel something good. RIP JAY DEE 🙏🏽
I just listen to this song for the first time ever a few months ago while on vacation. I was barefoot, standing right at the edge of the beach and water, and I just stared at an endless ocean while this beat was playing in my headphones. It was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever experienced. I will always for the rest of my life until I die remember that feeling I had, I felt secured. Everything was bliss, just nothing but open happiness. I love you dilla.

Imagine how highly esteemed Dilla would be if he was still alive. J dilla deserves his flowers as the goat producer
he is unique and mysterious in the same way boards of canada or aphex twin are. the melodic aspect of his work is so alien and dreamlike. "nothing like this" might be my favorite track of his, but everything he made was gold. what a f*cking genius artist R.I.P.
Dilla face sticker on my back windshield rollin' around Detroit showing respect like I'm spose to. Dilla will always be our Hometown Hero! Rest In Beats
Wild to see “Someone you know has Lupus” message at 2:00. JD still shining.

The beauty in it for me is that he's being honest about it. That way if a woman doesn't want that then she's free to choose not to be with him instead of him hiding another woman and her being surprised by it
