yep by ear. You want to be aware of all the possible chord pemutations so know your major, minor, dominant and diminished chords in all 12 keys like the back of ur hand. Then from there its trial and error tbh, theres no real short cut, like any skill the more you do it, the better you will get at recognizing the characteristics of a certain chord and you will pick up certain patterns from the style of music. Start with simple songs and work your way up
