I really resonated with the “taking the attention off of me” part and “putting the attention back on the Lord”. Because whenever I feel like crazy beautiful, sexy hot, it goes to my head a little, I become proud and addicted to the attention. And it reminds me a little of Satan how he was a beautiful angel, and he wanted all the glory to himself. And that just spoke volumes to me. Because pride comes before a fall. And wow! So true. Get the attention on Jesus. Not me. Yes! 🙌

He didn't fall because he was beautiful though. That's not the real issue. He fall because He took the glory for Himself and the way He was created. If wearing down ( which I suppose judging by Your comment), will make You feel less sexy and hot brings You close to God, then dress down, but in my opinion... That's not where the problem is. Think about it, it's not about what You wear or even how You feel, is about in what reality You are living. If it's in a reality where only God is praised, it doesn't matter what You will wear, or how You will feel, that's why I think we will WALK on a gold streets in heaven and will be surrendered by the most fabulous things. Still... God presents will be bigger then that, so them things will mean nothing. If You in God's presents those things just disappear in my opinion and we don't care about them. Just a thought. I think it's more about God presents nothing else. All else comes next.

You understand modesty in such a beautiful way that we Muslim women are taught in our religion. Hijab isn’t just what we wear, but how we act, our character and how we deal with others. It all goes back to you and your relationship with God😌You are so beautiful Milena inside and out💕

Such an interesting perspective - I was raised as an Orthodox Christian (but never baptised) and living in warmer climes I was quite used to wearing short, cute, summery outfits. But in my late 20s I started working at an all-Muslim office. Nobody ever told me I needed to change the way I dressed as everyone there was pretty cool and open-minded about stuff like that. But over the months I worked there, something changed in my own perceptions. I distinctly remember one afternoon when a male client walked in and my 2 coworkers were dressed in pretty maxi dresses and there I was in a short skirt and a little too bold of a cleavage. I remember at that moment, I'd never felt more naked (or ridiculous) in my life. I also noticed that contrary to popular belief, these Muslim women weren't shy, bashful or lacking in confidence beneath all the layers of clothes. They exuded quiet confidence and felt secure in their beauty and femininity without feeling the constant need to flaunt parts of their bodies to convince themselves they have worth. I've long changed jobs since then but that shift in mentality stayed with me. I gradually phased out items like mini-skirts or shorts. I occasionally allow myself more revealing tops (I'm not exactly the busty type) so I feel I can get away with it but I'm very aware of how much skin I show.

Hello Milena! The Lord has definitely put on my heart to be modest. I still wear jeans but make sure my bottom is always covered. And short story I was at the beach with my family and heard a man who was obviously drinking talking about all the woman on the beach and how skimpy there bathing suites were and what he wanted to do to them and how turned on was even though he was a married man!! It made me realize how men do look at us. The Lord gave me a pure example in front of my eyes how important it is to be modest.❤

Commenting as a spiritual follower and not a religious follower, I think this transition also comes from a place of womanhood. We learn our own worth and confidence and we mature through catching attention based on dressing a certain way and knowing that our heart and soul and mind is what is attention grabbing. Leaving the parts of our physical attraction to our spouses and not for all to see. Thank you for sharing this video!

As a Muslim, our main principle is that we aren't objects for everyones' eyes. Our Lord ordered modesty to save us from so much unnecessary grief. Like you said, our husbands can basically see us looking sexy, but not the whole world. Modesty is something that is inward and outward for us. Covering up for us isn't oppression to us, it's just obeying our Lord. And we do it happily and willingly.

I grew up in a church where women wear skirts, and while the bible calls for women to dress as women and men as men, standards have certainly changed since then. Hi Katelyn! Absolutely. Prior to coming to Christ, all I wore were crop tops and leggings. It makes me cringe to think I used to pickup my daughter from school dressed like that straight out of the gym! But man, God is SO good and He has been so patient with me in every area of my life, especially my modesty journey!! It didn't happen overnight, but over time, with God's grace, I've been able to OBEY the convictions He's placed in my heart and I've changed my entire wardrobe. I got rid of all my crop tops and I never wear just a sports bra to the gym! I've actually been wearing oversized t-shirts to the gym that cover my butt and I've never felt more COMFORTABLE and beautiful. I want to continue to dress for the LORD and not for the world or men's attention. The thought of that actually makes me sick lol. I have a 7 year old daughter who I want to be an example to on how a Godly woman should dress and what pleases/honors God. :) May the Lord continue to work in and through you, sis! God bless you and your beautiful daughters ❤

I told him I would advocate for her to be able to be included and things while modest.

Came here to say this 👏🏻 A lot of males in this era of easily accessible brutal and violent online exploitation of women, have been groomed to see us as objects and have developed addiction and these objectifying lenses. Women have suffered for so long due to taking accountability for others actions and it shouldn’t be that way. It is their responsibility to undo that and see us as humans deserving of respect. I LOVE however that she immediately mentioned that ultimately modesty refers to the heart as well. Because it’s true! However we want our clothing choices to reflect who we are and what we believe in. She made a lot of good points especially about still having the option to meet somewhere in between with fashion and femininity and then also remembering that not being “part” of the world is okay and we should strive for that. How much falls under this or not can be subjective though.

  • @JazlynSmith

Milena, great video 👏🏼 I grew up in the Pentecostal church, where Modesty was implemented on both men & women at a young age. You’re right, it is a heart problem, because our hearts ARE the problem. These days we’re so focused on our own emotions, instead of what the Holy Spirit is trying to convict us on. Sadly, sometimes as Christians we take the topic of modesty, to judge other Christians. The Lord once gave my mom a dream on Modesty. In her dream the Lord had spoke to her and had told her to go pray for someone, and she had replied to the Lord, “I can’t, I’m wearing pants” and He replied to her “did I ask you what you were wearing? I told you to go pray for her” and my mom had awoken from her dream. HOW POWERFUL! Is our God.. He wants us to reflect HIM, His kingdom. But that not only includes what we wear, but how we act and how we reflect HIM. Beautiful words Milena. ❤️

Omg I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and now your video came out. This is so nice to hear and start a conversation about and to know someone is going through the same thing. The main stream media is all about taking off your clothes and unfortunately young girls look up to that and it’s easy to be influenced by it that’s why it’s hard to be modest in this time and age. I think modesty is so beautiful and feminine. You’re so young and mature and guiding young girls to a good path. God have really blessed you with knowledge and wisdom. I love the part about it’s a slow process and the gym clothes that’s how it’s going for me. I’m really happy that someone is opening up the conversation 💗

Modesty has been such a journey for me as well !!! The holy spirit has changed my heart on a lot of things 🥰😇. As women we should lift eachother up and lead one another to christ. The verse in Peter about gentle and quiet spirit, God has been putting that on my heart so much lately. ♥️ It reminds me of the verse : Quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. James 1:19 And yes being slow and careful of the things that come out of our mouth, selective. There is life and death in the tongue!

MILENA!!!!!!! When I tell you Ive been praying for you to feel this!🤯 never from a judge mental standpoint but rather that God has given me this revelation & conviction in modesty and I know it’s the truth according to the word of God. Truly admire you for your sensitivity to the Lord! feel free to reach out to me!! I’ve been dressing modest for as long as I can remember… it definitely is a way to honor and please God! I strongly believe Our outward appearances reflects our inward. And as the Lord says, “Be ye holy for I am Holy” love you and what you’re doing on this platform. Truly it’s powerful.

I was also raised in the church and dressed immodestly for many years. I started wearing maxi dresses with shawls and things to church and immediately felt relief. I didn’t need to worry about bending over or how I sat because I was fully covered! It can be challenging to not look frumpy, but there are MANY cute outfits to wear that do not show off your body. I have a baby girl and desire to be a living example to her. I loved this video. Truly appreciated this video and your transparency. God bless your journey, sister!

Just an opinion on modesty being difficult to style fashionably. If you look into classic style, the pieces that never go out of fashion, most classic pieces are quite modest and effortlessly beautiful. For me, when I have felt my personal style to be too revealing, it's always when I have tried to follow a trend. Trends are just a momentary flash in the pan, and then they move on. I've found that tailoring my closet to more classic items has made modesty easy, and my shopping as a whole a lot more conscious, and intentional.

When I first got saved I was instantly convicted of my wardrobe. I ended up getting rid of 90% of my clothes because I was, for lack of a better word, a “hoochie mama” lol. I was in longer t-shirts and loose pants for awhile but I’m a fashionista and missed dressing feminine so I’m currently trying to find my “modest style” if you will. I pulled together some really cute holiday outfits but it’s definitely a journey. I have to say, for someone who has spent most of her life in virtually no clothes, it feels good to keep my body to myself. ❤

Girl, I'm right there with you! I'm so glad to hear that. God is REAL and He really does change us from the inside out when we put our faith in Jesus and trust in Him! I used to dress provocatively, I was always going out, drinking, having casual sex with men but when I came to know Christ and made Him my Lord & Savior -- He changed ME from the inside out. I no longer drink, I have been celibate for 3 years, and I have changed the way I dress completely.. I no longer dress for men's attention/approval, but I dress to bring glory to God & I choose to dress in a way that honors/pleases Him!! God bless you, sister. May the Lord continue to work in and through you. ❤

Yes!! God changes our hearts! I dealt with a similar conviction. I used to only wear crop tops & tank tops before Christ. I remember one day after being born again, I wore a sports bra to the gym and the entire time I was there, I felt so convicted. I stopped wearing sports bras to the gym and I got rid of the cropped tops in my closet. No one told me anything, I just felt convicted by the Holy Spirit.. you are right sister, it is worth it! To surrender and to be obedient! Thank you Jesus for changing me from the inside out. ❤🥰

I want to thank you for making this video - for multiple reasons. One, because as an expectant mom I truly enjoy your content and look up to you as an example of what a godly wife/mother should be, and being on a modesty journey myself, I really appreciate that you are talking about the difficulty of the journey. And I'm also glad that you brought up the different body types, because I started my modesty journey (and mine consists of only skirts/dresses) at a time when I happened to be gaining a significant amount of weight, and so it's been such a struggle to find modest clothes that fit my changing body type (ESPECIALLY now that I'm pregnant). It's like, they don't make clothes for women that aren't either sexual or frumpy. It's so hard to find an in-between, and it's also hard when you have a particular style that you like but can't find affordable pieces that will fit you in a modest way. I live in NY and the winters can get quite cold here too, so I understand your hesitancy with converting to only skirts/dresses - it's a struggle, sis! What's saved me is wearing fleece tights but I know sometimes that's not enough. To each their own journey. Anyhow, thank you for being brave enough to talk about this topic even though you didn't want to - I look forward to seeing how you grow! Also, if you ever want to do a "modest look-book," I'd totally love that, because I love your fashion sense and would love to get inspiration!

Then later on she says “Her house looks really happy, too.” And she noticed how you are with the kids and how joyful the kids are. Again, brought tears to my eyes. That’s how I want to be and that’s how I want our home to be. Joyful in the Lord. Anyway, just wanted to let you know.

Our uniforms and practice clothes attracted attention to our bodies, but it was normal and I didn’t think anything of it. After college, I realized how detrimental my clothes could be in my walk with Christ. I wear skirts/dresses at least to the knee (even found cute workout ones that are great for loungewear!), and God also deals with me in regard to hair, jewelry, and makeup. There’s so much in His Word if we just look for it and pray on it, just as you said!

I love the whole part about not judging people and not pushing them too hard. My mother always emphasized modesty so much and her standards were so high that I never felt I fit her standard and just gave up trying to be as modest as she would have liked and that led me to be less and less modest. Everyone is on their own journey with it and we should be each other's guides, not judges.

I am all for the modesty. As I became a mom I noticed that less and less my focus was on being "seen" and more on being comfortable and adapting to my role as a mom. "Does this show my butt if I'm picking up my kids" "will someone completely see down my shift if I have to bend over". To dress that way was no longer practical but it was also no longer comfortable. I felt I was constantly trying to cover myself up and not expose too much yet I'd wear these things 🤦‍♀️ duhh wear clothes that cover more and make me feel comfortable in my own skin.

Wow. I really felt this. I have decided not to long ago, to start dressing more “modestly”. I made the comment out loud to my husband, and our oldest daughter who is 12 asked me what that meant. I of course was stumbling on my words to say, and didn’t know exactly how to put it besides having more respect for myself, what I’m showing of my body and to whom… but this, this video has made some more valid points and I think I will have sit down and show her some of these scriptures now and talk more into depth with it. As her becoming a young lady, I believe it’s very important for her to hear this and have a better understanding. Then as her two younger sisters get older, they will know as well. I try to instill it always, for them all to learn, but I must set the example in my household. Thank you ❤ God knew exactly what I needed to hear.

The denominations that only wear skirts and dresses are so incredibly toxic in my experience. I grew up in that church, and I can’t express how ridiculous it was. One time I went to a church camp when I was 5, and I got pulled aside and told to go change bc my dress was just above the knee. I was 5. I did not even understand why. Why were they sexualizing that? I was 5! That stuck with me because it was so confusing. Not until I was older did I understand what happened. I love modesty in every aspect you described, as long as it’s not coming from a place of oppression from other people.

I agree. This reminds me of dress codes at school, sexualising children’s knees and shoulders. It keeps kids from learning and represents a form of punishment in the summer for their wardrobe and bodies. This whole topic is not addressed at all like that outside of the US. European schools don’t have a ‘school dress code’ unless it is a private school with certain extra rules for uniforms or school attire. Girls are not made to feel ‘wrong’ and distracting.

Yesss! Thank you for talking about this, I felt so alone as I grow with the Lord and grow as a woman in general, also as a mom of three. People close to me tell me I dress like a grandma but I just feel so weird if I show too much skin! It feels wrong. Im happy to hear someone else talking about it and being honest that it can be a struggle when you’re still growing and learning!

This will bless so many people ❤️ This is exactly the type of video I was searching for when I first felt convicted about my own modesty! It’s a scary topic so many Christian influencers avoid but you handled it with genuine love & grace for whoever watches this ☺️

I love this! As a young mom/woman in society today, we are constantly seeing what beautiful “is” on social media and it has affected me so much. I struggle with finding my own style and sense of self because I feel like if I don’t look or dress like the girls on social media, I’m not beautiful. Thank you for speaking on this and I pray for all women in their journey to find confidence in their own selves💕

Honestly, modesty is a touchy topic with me as well. I feel like for so long it's been drilled in females heads that we need to be modest for the sake of the "male gaze" and it was always so off putting to me. But I love how you touched on how 1)men can be immodest 2) modesty is far beyond what you wear and 3) taking into account body shapes and how certain women are shamed for the body that God gave them! It's a personal journey with that person and the Lord. Great job with this video :)

Mia we have to be honest here if we walk in the average church you already have around 9 out of 10 men dressing modest. It's a lot more common for women to dress inmodest so that's why the focus is on them mostly. Both need to be modest but it's simply just more of a women's issue. Out of curiosity what's touchy about it to you? With scripture saying don't be a stumblingblock Luke 17:1-4, Paul in 1 Corinthians 8:13 said even though he can eat meat he won't if it causes a weaker brother to stumble and much more. It's pretty straightforward in scripture and the biggest struggle I think is people just not wanting to lay down their own desires and selflessly serve like we're called to do.

Praise God for your willingness to talk about modesty! I remember (probably over a year ago) you mentioned on Instagram that you weren't ready to talk about this yet, but I am so thankful you are now. You did a beautiful job explaining how external modesty is a reflection of what's inside your heart. When I was convicted of modesty, I went through the same steps you're going through and I'm still working through my thoughts on certain types of clothes. Also, thank you for the reminder that modesty is dressing and acting in a way that glorifies God and not myself! I think I've been lacking in that lately.

I get it but on the other hand I think women shouldn't 'hide' just because men can't keep their thoughts together. I don't think you should dress too revealingly - of course not. don't understand me wrong but when a guy passes by with huge muscles and a tight shirt I could have 'dirty' thoughts too but I CHOOSE NOT TO. men should learn that too... see us as a woman (as a human being) and not as a s** object...

I think this is my issue too. It had me thinking about women only wearing dresses and being so oppressive when I can see a man’s butt in a pair of pants as well? I 100% get what she is saying about modesty in general.

Through my walk with the Lord in the last few years, I have felt a huge conviction to be modest as well. When I would wear my shorts and crop tops from college, I started to feel very uncomfortable and found myself tugging at them to cover myself up. I knew the Holy Spirit was telling me it was time for a change. Dressing more modestly makes me feel more confident and sophisticated! It's definitely been a slow process of elimination, so I completely understand your journey!
