Yes! My modesty journey didn’t happen overnight but God has been so patient with me 🙂 I no longer have a desire to show everything off but to cover my body instead. I don’t NEED or want that type of attention for men. I want to dress in a way that honors and glorifies God 🕊️🙏🏼❤️ I want to represent Christ in the best way possible. It's sad because I feel like as an African-American woman hypersexuality saturates our image and perception of each other and ourselves. The black american culture outside of the church makes it so difficult to embrace modesty. So pray for us and those who experience what I'm talking about, stay encouraged it is okay to be different than what they tell us to be like 🥰

HERE ARE SOME WORDS FROM JESUS YOUR CREATOR "I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me... Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it... I Am the Good Shepherd: the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep... I Am the Good shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine. As the Father knoweth Me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down My life for the sheep... My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are One... I Am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?.. I Am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life... Ye must be born again... Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit... If ye believe not that I Am He, ye shall die in your sins... If any man come to Me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple... And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God... All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out... No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto Me... Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I Am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls... Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto him of My Father... I and My Father are One... My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me... As thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given Him... And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day... Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also... For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?.. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it... Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up... Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things... Repent ye, and believe the Gospel...I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish... I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I Am He, ye shall die in your sins... I Am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I Am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death... I Am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee. Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen for Thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him. Psalm 2:7-12

Most "Christians" reject the message of modesty because they're in full-blown rebellion. They profess to love Christ, but are in bed with the world. We live in a me-centric society where it's all about _me, me, me!_ The mentality is "If it makes me feel good, then I do it. I don't care about anyone else." It's only after the scales are removed from those eyes where people truly begin to awaken to the horrors of their selfish actions. But it's only through a renewed mind of Christ where people gain that perspective.

Modesty, in the Bible, addressed women dressing too elaborately and lavishly and paying no attention to good works. It's about frugality more than covering up nakedness. The Bible correctly assumes that most of us know walking around naked is shameful. Now, women react badly to modesty as most churches preach it because it puts the onus of another person's sin on them. It betrays that some Christians would rather control everything but themselves, yet the Bible tells us that we have been given a spirit of power, love and SELF-CONTROL. Gentlemen, you must deal with the sin of lust in the same way that everyone deals with sins they struggle with - pray, resist, and know that God is your strength even when you are weak. It is very illogical to make women in church dress in a certain way "for the sake of their brothers" when these same men will go home and watch porn. We live in a fallen world - even if every Christian woman decided to wear a hijab and burqa, these men will still have to contend with the others who don't want to.

Two responses to this; 1. While you are correct in saying that men should not look at you with lust, you are your brother's keepers. You should try and prevent yourself from inciting temptation in others. Some men may still look at you with lust, but you should not do anything to incite it. 2. Modesty isn't just about preventing lust in others, it's about your own dignity. To dress modestly is to treat your body as the valuable thing it is

  • @Beatrichay

    @Beatrichay

@@Kenfren The few times being your brothers keeper is brought up in church, it is usually to do with controlling how women dress. It's one of the few issues where the burden for someone else's sin is passed on to another and it no matter how you cut it, it's not biblical and can become quite pharisaical (putting on people burdens you ought not too). It is also not very helpful for the men. How will they contend with the non-Christians if they are indirectly taught that they have no control over their own thought life and actions, and are under the mercy of the decency of any woman they meet on the street? Its no way to live and is very disempowering. Finally, if you read the scriptures where Paul mentions modest dressing in women, it really is more about not being extravagant. Funny enough, this is a real problem. We can spend heaps on beauty products and more and more clothes yet not lift a manicured finger to help the poor. Not biblical.

I agree women should dress modestly, i always have . I wouldn'tallow my daughter to wear clothing that gives the wrong impression. Even as a little girl I purchased shorts from the boys section and made then girly because the girls shorts were too short. . But MEN need to take the lead on this. Unmodesty is not just a WOMAN thing. I shouldn't have to wear a burka to keep a man from sinning. Honestly most men will lust no matter what. I am WILLING to help my brothers in Chrust out but I am not in charge of their sins. They need to take charge of their weakness also. And you don't hear that talked on much, it does give the IMPRESSION that it's the WOMAN'S responsibility not BOTH!

I see that verse taken out of context a lot. We are not "merely" to adorn ourselves physically. It means to focus on our hearts and our intentions. But it doesn't mean it isn't permissible to braid our hair or wear jewelry. But we should not only be doing that. Some people try to twist this verse to say it means that adorning our selves at all is wrong. But they forget the word merely. We shouldn't only focus on our outside. The inside should be our main focus. But it isn't a prohibition on trying to look nice only a reminder that insides matter more than outsides.

It’s harder for men to dress immodest to begin with. Almost every form of clothing that is considered attractive or popular covers a man up completely. Anything considered “immodest” for men is usually ridiculed by women or considered “gay” anyway.

The Bible doesn't only tell women to be modest. Men are to be modest as well. In both dress and behavior. Immodesty is doing anything that is show offy or flaunting something to draw attention to yourself. Men and women can both be guilty of immodesty. Showing off your muscles and boasting about buying something cool are both immodest behaviors I regularly see men do, yet I rarely if ever hear of men being chastised for it. Yes women should dress and act modestly, but so should men.

Women, men, wear whatever you want to wear. Men, be respectful. God gave us bodies and we shouldn’t be afraid of them. Do you think doctors are overcome with lust every time they see a person’s body? Hypersexualization comes from repression, not from *gasp* having a piece of skin visible. This is simply garden variety misogyny. I hope we can get this stuff straight one day.

John 15:13. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. We are to lay down our lives for others. Women need to lay down their overt sexuality so that others can have strong, healthy marriages, families, and personal walks with the Lord. If someone was an alcoholic, you wouldn't temp them with alcohol. So why temp men in or out of church with sex and lust? We are to draw people to Christ, not to ourselves or our bodies.

For me it's having the complete onus of men's sexual desires. Where it's so hyped on that anything sexual becomes the woman's responsibility. How we get blamed for things are not ours to hold. The churches I grew up rarely if ever mentioned male modesty. I think female modesty is important both for ourselves and others, but it's a slap in the face when I'm dressing modestly and guys around me dress like they couldn't care less. GOD may put more emphasis on female modesty but that doesn't make male modesty unimportant.

My name is Christian & im a 16 year old girl who has been struggling with the topic of modesty. I’ve never really been the type to wear revealing clothes, even before I was saved. Although, I’ve come to learn that some aspects of clothes can be wrong & that we are supposed to honor God with our bodies along with our heart, mind, soul & strength. I enjoy wearing short sleeved shirts, sweaters, wide or even baggy pants, t-shirts, and wearing shorts that stop at the knees, but they still show my lower legs. Lately, I’ve been feeling very heart broken about what I wear & what I can wear because I constantly hear that showing any form of skin is wrong & can cause men to stumble. I hate to feel like women can’t live without being objectified in every way when they aren’t even dressed inappropriately, even in the church! I’m not saying to wear shorts at church but I mean to wear these kinds of clothes in everyday life. When I hear men saying that when women wear shirts with words on it or even when they wear loose fitting pants, it makes them stumble. It makes me question why I was even made to exist, & to exist as a girl on top of that. If a girl can’t simply exist when she’s not even dressed provocatively, then what’s the point of even being a person with feelings & emotions & a SOUL. I know that it’s not right to question my existence when I know the reason is to glorify God, so I will pray about that, and I would also ask if you could pray for me too. It just hurts to know that it can be so much as just walking & brother in Christ would claim that you’re making them stumble. When in reality you aren’t seeking attention in your clothes you are just existing like they are. Is it wrong to have a body that I’m not trying to show off? How much am I supposed to cover up? Is it wrong to like the clothes that I like? Is it wrong to like cute clothes? Do I have to cover myself from head to toe since Jesus said to not be a stumbling block. Is it wrong to show my arms or lower legs when men can? I just don’t think it’s fair that women have to constantly think about every breath or step they take & develop self-consciousness while wondering if they are causing a man to stumble or not, especially godly men.

Cause I (a Christian) don’t hear anything about modesty among Christians. I wish someone would talk about it! Pastor maybe??? It sounds like you are dressing modestly. Just be careful not to wear anything that draws attention to your breasts or bottom and legs. Nothing rtght. If you are extra curvy then there may be styles that a flat chested skinny girl can get away with that you can’t. You’re doing fine. Just keep praying for clarity.❤️

It also is considered nakedness for the thighs to show as we find in Leviticus. The reason people are to wear clothes is because of sin (Genesis 3). Therefore in this sin cursed world filled with sinful people it would be wrong for a woman or man to about in the nude outside of one's bedroom. The only showing off of one's body that the Lord approves of is in the context of marriage.

We are to die to self and stop making it hard for men to have clean thoughts. Yes, YOU have a responsibility. How preposterous and hypocritical to dress inappropriately and then expect men to act as if you’re not! There’s only one reason you dress the way you do...to attract the attention.

If you are a married woman it is also about honoring your husband bc you are one flesh. You belong to one another and only a husband should get to see all that some women are willing to show off. There is a sacredness and intimacy so many disregard and have no reverence for today! I think a small percentage may be due to ignorance, but mostly obstinance, selfishness and pride that is just rebellion.

I do believe that a lot of women have been hurt by men, and thusly project it onto other men. I also think a lot of women have made decisions to seek out things that they knew were dangerous. I say this, as a man, because I've been hurt by quite a few women, and they were all women _I sought out without consulting God._ I saw things that looked good and pleasing to my eyes, and then retroactively tried to make things fit with my self-professed "Christian" lifestyle. And I got burned, severely. Every. Single. Time. It's not within my ability or right to even say or judge what anyone else has done, God has to remind me of my own sin because I can't even remember it all! That's up to each individual and God to figure out, I'm simply saying that we make choices we are often quick to point fingers over when the consequences arrive. You know the truth of your life, and you might be able to fool everyone else, but *_you can't fool God._* So while I do recognize that the responsibility of men (fathers) in society is greater, because God calls us to be representations of Him in the world (and when we shirk this responsibility, society literally falls apart), I think it's important that everyone is given opportunities to take responsibility for themselves. On the other side of that is the actual healing, the freedom. When we're honest with God about what we _know_ we've done, He tosses it into the sea of forgetfulness...never to be remembered again. Freedom.

A hemline or certain behaviors will constantly be policed if we keep telling people to be modest. Every culture will be deciding for themselves what modesty is. It’s better to get at the root cause, and address the heart issue.

A good conversation but a clear misunderstanding on scripture and lying on god because the most high never directly commanded a women to dress modest. There is not an equivalent word in Hebrew. Now PAUL when writing Timothy brought out that women should wear respectable clothing WITH a shamed faced( the words translated to modesty) and self control. The most high did however explicitly states for a woman not to wear clothing that pertain to a man. Deut 22:5 I do agree that your clothing should reflect what’s in your heart because that aligns with scripture. We see clothes designated for mourning, marriage, etc.
