Having two great actors in this scene helps a great deal. Seems like Marvel films can't attract top talent any more.

I love how Mickey Rourke plays Ivan in this scene. This mix of confusion, menace, and self-assurance is great. Watch his eyes as the cuffs come off and he starts really sizing up Hammer.

Hi ! If you're talking about 0:40, the guard actually speaks French. He says "J'te laisse pas avec lui, hein" ("I'm not leaving you with him, huh"), and Hammer answers "Laisse-nous" ("Leave us"). It's actually a very good French accent, but he speaks so quickly that it's hard to recognize the language if you're not expecting it. It sounds like "Sh'Tuh -L'sPa-AkLee-uh" Then the guard says "J'te laisse pas, il est ouf" ("I'm not leaving you, he's crazy") again, hard to get, sounding like "Sh'Tuh -L'sPA-Lyou(f)". Then "Oui oui" ("Yes yes"), easier ^^. You can check @christophebaud3108 comment here some weeks ago, with the same translation.

Nice of him to get Ivan away from prison food.

The most realistic things are the toothpick and the fact that he doesn’t say anything until Justin shuts up

The fake tan palms are such a great addition. This performance has always stood out to me.

Damn it. There are SO many talented Russian actors. If the charactor is Russian, why could they not just find a Russian actor for the role? Yes, non-Russian speakers won't understand what he is saying, but I, a Russian speaker, almost did not understand him when he spoke Russian. It took me out of the scene. This applies to all characters who speakers languages other than English.

Ivan was doing a reverse powerplay in this scene. He could understand and speak English well but was making sure that he established a position of power in his relationship with Justin right from the get go.

Sam Rockwell and Jon Favreau (who directed this film and played Happy) worked together in G-Force.

Justin Hammer mentioned the word "benefactor". In Antman 2, the villain mentioned he has a "benefactor". What if Justin Hammer sent him after the Pym-Tech from behind the scenes? And that that will be revealed in Armor Wars? Just a thought.

@@rickabrams3422 No need to thank me. We owe it to Sam for that one. I'd also add that the fake tan is an anchor point for Ivan Vanko. He listens to Hammer's spiel whilst asessing the man. Ivan responds with nonsensical Russian sounds, to which Hammer asks about an interpreter. This is the moment where Ivan has confirmed that Hammer is hollow/weak. I.E - It might look like tan, but it isn't. It might sound like Russian, but it isn't.

The true villain in this was Tony's dad, stealing ng another man's invemtions, forcing him out, and claiming them as his own. Tony should have done the right thing. We see he has no problem going after those whobartacked his mom in Civil War.

The current MCU is sorely lacking in performances like this from side characters. You get some here and there like Ke Huy Quan in Loki and Christian Bale in L&T.

Sam Rockwell is so good, it kind of sucks he one is in one movie.

Justin Hammer was crazy to help Ivan Vanko get out of prison after he tried to kill Anthony Stark in public because of a personal grudge against his family that goes back over 40 years because of what Tony's father did to Ivan's father.

Love that you see a huge part of his corruptive personality without being told about it. Hammer wastes a lot of money on luxury which is why his stuff doesnt work and is later revealed that his govt contracts are suspended.
