I feel like you are speaking directly to me in your videos. To think an accomplished violinist such as yourself takes the time to post videos to help others. I am in awe of you. I am a senior who has just retired and have taken up the violin. The violin is an instrument where you can create a ballet even if you can't dance. I thank you sir for helping others with your expertise.

Mr. Perlman, once again, touché on a technical and artistic tool that all musicians should put to exercise (including singers) :^) As you so well know there is too often a mismatch of the vibrato to the character of the music. Thank you sir for the musical tools that keep it fresh to the ear as it is written, "Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise."

This video was a surprise. I came here accidentally but I'm glad I did. I didn't use vibrato in my playing days but there wasn't much need for it playing dance music in small combos. I rarely took my bow to the type of gigs we played. But I love what the young bass players are doing on youtube.

This is a lesson that everyone that plays a stringed instrument - and not just the violin - should learn. Vibrato is a wonderful form of expression. On a violin the vibrato may be a movement that it in line with the strings, on a classical guitar it is the same, on an electric guitar typically the strings are moved sideways but the idea is the same. It's a fantastic tool to add character to whatever you're playing. Play with passion and enjoy. Thank you Itzhak for the lesson!

Amazing! I had a teacher which I was frustrated with because she always had me vibrato like a madman on every note, super short super fast vibratos. My favorite piece of music in the world is the theme from Schindler's List, and all those beautiful vibrato styles give Itzhak's version so much more emotion and character than any version I've ever heard. So many of the "first chair" players in my university orchestra also had only a single vibrato style (the fast and narrow).

Thank you for taking the time to make a informative upload. I have been a working musician for over 40 years and have recently taken up the violin, ironically I never looked at the violin as a instrument that would suit me, as a younger man, I have found it to be a refreshingly rewarding instrument capable of giving me more expression than my own instrument of career, I can certainly see how a man can make it a life and choice career more rewarding than a person could perceive, I will certainly keep vigil on your uploads, again thanks very much

Inspired by your rendition of Thais' Meditation I am beginning the violin at age sixty four. As a singer songwriter for many years with the guitar I feel that the violin opens up a whole new world of expression. I love this instrument! I just want you to know how deeply touched I feel by what you bring to music and I pray the the Lord will give you the strength and peace you need to continue many years touching and blessing lives as you have mine. Hope to see you in Schenectady in March.
