Absolutely hilarious - I had forgotten how entertaining these were.

This was from the days when the "whole language" method of teaching reading was the fashion. Compare it with, say, the BBC's Look and Read (kzread.info/dash/bejne/jG16xY-DfMLcaJM.html) which used a synthetic phonics-based approach. I can't help thinking that reading standards would be higher today if Basil had brushed up on his phonics.

I wonder how many episodes of Let's Read with Basil Brush they actually produced for transmission? i wish i could speak out to few of the surviving crew if they're useful enough to know or the archiving team at ITV.
