ITP Terracross R/T Tire Review | Better than the Kenda BearClaw HTR?

This is a review / comparison of the ITP Terracross R/T ATV tires. Previously I ran the Kenda BearClaw HTRs, a very similar All Terrain tire. In this video I look at how these perform for my riding style/environment and give my thoughts on which tire is ultimately better (for me).
I'm running these on a 2022 Yamaha Grizzly 700 and they are set to 5 PSI in this video. Thanks for watching!

    I got so lucky to find this video! Was seriously between the two before I saw this. I haven't owned either, so this was great. Bearclaws sure sound like they work great for everything. I'm sick of having to get a run at the snow to plow and sick of spinning! In the reviews guys say they're great in snow and for plowing. Others claim they are pulling out their buddies with these all the time.

    Right on, glad this could help. Both tires are pretty great. One thing I've experienced with the bear claw HTRs (and heard from others as well) is that they took some weight to balance them. When I mounted up the HTRs and got the machine up to 35-40 mph, I had a horrible wobble. I had to put several ounces of balancing beads in through the valve stem to smooth it out. Not as bad for the terracross tires, but it's probably unfair to draw any conclusions with such small sample sizes. Can't go wrong with either tire in my opinion.

    @@ThomperBeThompin I have also read about the balance issue. I must admit, you're saying it does give me pause. I'll have to look into the balancing beads. Never heard of them before until these Kenda's. Thanks for telling me.

    i’m thinking about goin with the htrs on my grizzly 700 , however i’m thinking of going with the 25s instead of the stock 26 size . that’s because i have read that the 25s actually run almost just as big as the stock 26s , and i also don’t want to lose any power or handling . what do you think?

  • @ThomperBeThompin

    I think it all depends on what kind of trails you're running down. I had 25 HTRs on my previous Kodiak 450 and that thing was an absolute beast on just about any trail. You'll gain a little bit more acceleration by going to 25's and you likely won't lose much real world off-road ability. If you're doing insane rock climbing and stuff, maybe keep the 26s.

    thinking about these on my Renegade. was going to go with htr bear claws but i hear once the siping wears off the traction suffers.. idk, I do need durability. was looking at the sedona ripsaw rt also, similar tread pattern as these.

  • @ThomperBeThompin

    @ThomperBeThompin

    I did not notice much of a difference in traction when my initial sipes wore off of those HTRs. That said, I only had about 700 miles on them. I really think that these two tires are so close that you can't go wrong with either. The HTRs are notorious for requiring a tiny bit of weight to balance in the front, but I would probably pick them (mine took several ounces of balancing beads in the fronts). But I'm honestly splitting hairs, at the end of the day, I'd probably go with whichever set was cheaper lol.

    For the Terrcross and the Kenda HTRs are the actual widths different than what is listed on the tire? For example are they exactly 9 inches and 10 inches wide or do they measure more narrow or wider? The reason I’m asking is because I’m looking to possibly get 9 inch all the way around but don’t want for example 8.5 inch tires on the rear. 9 inch or more would be acceptable.

  • @ThomperBeThompin

    @ThomperBeThompin

    3 ай бұрын

    They run pretty true to size, but I think most people run a 10-in wide tire for a square setup. The 9s would definitely look goofy on the rear. Also, the 9s have a shallower tread depth than the dedicated rears that are 10-11 in wide. Food for thought. I've never run a square setup on an ATV, so I'm probably not the best to ask.

    How do you find sidewalk stability when cornering? Thinking about these in 27” on the same rims/bike, but a bit worried about hard cornering with the larger sidewall on a taller tire

  • @ThomperBeThompin

    These 26-in tall tires are pretty expensive but 25-in tall tires are much more affordable at around 450 bucks for a set. I did a lot of the up close footage in two wheel drive just to really test traction for the sake of the video. Four-wheel drive and probably wouldn't have slipped much at all out there.

    Hi, How are these on pavement? Are they smooth? Do they have much vibration or wobble in the handlebars at higher speeds? I had Kenda HTRs and had to get rid of them. They wobbled like mad on pavement at 40-60 kph. Im interested in these and would greatly appreciate your feedback. Thanks

    I've had these and the kendas and they are both very smooth on pavement in my experience. That said the kendas and these wobbled like crazy until I put balancing beads in. Good review but I have come to a different conclusion. I rode Kenda BearClaw HTR’s for about 6 years. They are indeed a TOUGH tire that I highly recommend. That said, I switched to ITP Terracross about 2-3 years ago. The Terracross are amazing in all conditions but they have slightly more flexibility offering a FAR superior ride quality. The Terracross also steer better imo and they work better off camber. There is little doubt the Bear Claws will last longer with their 8 ply rating. The HTR’s are a durable but very stiff tire. The HTR’s perform better in mud. In snow, they are about even. Both are great tires, but I give a slight edge to Terracross for my use case.

    I had some HTR on a Honda Foreman. On the trails they did well. They were a tough stiff tire. I hated them. They felt extremely out of balance at anything over 30 mph. They would howl. There was no shock absorbtion. It was a harder compond. I changed out to Bighorn 2.0's and the ride was night and day difference. I know some people have problems with the 2.0's but I have them on two other bikes now and they have been fine for me but maybe its just a matter of time. I have zillas on the new grizzly se I just picked up but they are going to have to be switched out. They tear up my yard. However, I just checked maxxis prices and they are almost 50% more than I paid 2 years ago. Thats a tough pill to swallow.

    That's where I'm at right now with tires. Price... Bighorns are like you said way more expensive. In CAD pricing they are 100 more per tire than the HTR and 70 more than these ITP's. I just can't decide what tire to go with. I want something that's great all around Snow, plowing, hard pack ect, and that will last l I'm stuck between ITP's, Bearclaw HRT's. I've also been looking into Kimpex Trail troopers and Traxion Grippers (Bighorn knock offs)
