Ithaca model 37 12 gauge shotgun self defense / riot style

Спорт

Making my Ithaca model 37 lose some weight and inches. Trimming it down about 7 1/2” so it will be a handier (and cooler) shotgun.
My first time threading for a bead sight successfully.
The trimming was not necessarily the cleanest on the barrel but with some cold blue it looks pretty decent. Not factory fresh but good enough for my collection.
Thinking of adding a metal heat shield to it next- to make it even better :)

Well done , I love this sort of thing. I make the complete cut with the pipe cutter and carefully clean up the new muzzle with a round file , bastard file and sandpaper. Thanks for sharing.

I used a pipe cutter to cut my barrel completely no hacksaw used, than filed the burrs, my police special 8 shot has the hunting scene on the side , the m&p 8 shots were the ones that had no hunting scene on the receiver, I own multiple Ithaca 37’s new and old

How do the new ones compare for smoothness and function?

@@crankygunreviews much smoother , my police special is extremely smooth but my defense gun is just butter, if I have the barrel pointed upwards and I can hit the pump release button and the pump will drop almost completely to the receiver without me touching it, that smooth, it can shoot faster than my older police model

That’s good to know they’re not compromising on quality like so many companies do to cut cost

@@crankygunreviews I got mine 12 years ago, but the issue now is finding one , they have been sold out on the Ithaca site for a few years now, I’m convinced that they don’t even make them anymore, plus I’ve looked at every website that sells them, every version of the model 37 made in Ohio is out of stock, I’ll do a video on my channel soon comparing my police special vs the defense gun

Careful with that cut, you don’t want to go and Randy Weaver yourself! BTW~Riot style? I think that’s a mostly peaceful protest/self defense shotgun. 😂

Cool video, I miss my Model 37 featherlight in a 20ga. It got stolen out of my house back in 1998. Great gun and killed a lot of birds with it. Like the new look on yours.

They’re still out there, I got a good deal on this one, I’ve seen two or three in similar condition for $500-$600 which is too much in my opinion

That turned out amazing. So many helpful hints. What do you use to polish/treat (?) a very old wood stock? Probably a silly question, but I don’t want to wreck an old shotgun. 🇺🇸✌️

Finishing an old stock or refinishing kind of depends on how it was finished originally. I mean, it’s wood so there are many hood instructional videos on refinishing wood. If it has old lacquer you’re probably going to need to strip it first, if it’s just oiled, you may be able to just oil it. Some guys use chemical strippers, some just sand it with progressively finer paper till the wood looks good, the use tung oil. The tung oil will give you a deep color usually and leave a very low sheen on the wood. Like my M1 Garand or my 10/22 M1 Carbine

Uncle Scotty has good video on here (he was LAPD for years) and he disliked the 37… much prefers the 870
